Please help :) I have upgraded our dining from quick service to regular dining and I have managed to secure reservations for *almost* all of my top picks for restaurants. However, Ohana for dinner has been the one I can't seem to get. I did finally find one for 8pm (that's about as late as I want to have dinner). Because of the number of meals we get with our dining plan, I must give one up in order to keep Ohana without paying oop. Please help me to decide which is better in terms of quality of food and experience:
Ohana or Mama Melrose's.

In terms of type of cuisine, both seem appealing and foods that all of us would enjoy. Any help would be very appreciated!

One thing about the late O'hana reservation....if you check and see what time Wishes is that night, you might get lucky and view it. You would definately want to request a window table when you get there though. Just a thought....

We been to both, loved 'Ohana, disliked Melrose (liked the menu, but the food did not live up to the description, and our waitress was extremely rude.)

Another vote for 'Ohana!

'Ohana. And don't worry too much about the 8:00 ADR. If you are coming from Alberta, you will be shifting a couple of time zones. Your stomach will think it is 6:00!

I would definitely do Ohana over Mama Melrose. The experience at Ohana is so much fun. Warning...there is a ton of food and you can really eat too much. There are some fun activities for the kids to keep them entertained.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Wishes presentation. We were there around same time. I was hoping we could see it from Ohana but when the music came into the restaurant, only a few tables could actually see the fireworks. I think there were a bunch of trees/foliage blocking the windows.

Another vote for O'Hana!! It's always our favorite and the kids love the coconut races and doing the hukela. Last year we finished eating just as the fireworks were starting.. so we watched them from the lobby in the Poly while enjoying an after-dinner drink :thumbsup2

For me it is by far 'Ohana!!! Even though throughout the years we have had some less than perfect meals/service there, we have had more times that the food and service were good. For some reason it can be hit or miss..but I much much prefer 'Ohana over MM. We only dined there once, but it was terrible. The food was lousy and service was terrible. Now, since it was only one time, it could have been an off night, but it was so bad for us, that it left me no desire to return.

Thank you to everyone for the advice!!! It seems like Ohana is most certainly the way to go. I can't believe I actually managed to get an ADR this close to our vacation.

We will be visiting hollywood studios that day (and we do not have park hoppers). What is the best/fastest way to get from HS to Ohana? Any advice?

Thanks again!

Good choice going with Ohana! You should be able to just take the Contemporary/Poly/GF bus from HS to Ohana.... Poly is the second stop so it will be a pretty quick trip, as HS isn't too far from there...

I would choose Ohana over Mama Melrose. The food is great and the atmosphere is really fun!

No question--Ohana is the hands down winner!:thumbsup2 This is one of our must-do's every trip.

The best way to get there from DHS is to hop on a bus for the Poly. Very easy, just give yourself enough time to get there. If your ADR is for 8pm, I'd leave by 6:30. If you make good time and get there early, check in and you just might get seated before your ADR. If not, then you can get a drink or walk around the lobby and shops.

Enjoy!:goodvibes
