'Ohana NOT O'Hana's!

Pet peeve time.

This has been addressed numerous times on this board, so this may serve as a refresher.

It's "'Ohana" (without an apostrophe "s"), meaning "family," not "O'Hana" or "O'Hana's," which presumably to some people would be an Irish pub in Disney's Polyneasian Resort.

There. I said it. I feel better. :goodvibes

:yay: I want to stay in the Irish Polyneasian Resort!

Oof!

I have huge pet peeves about spelling errors (I have my BA in English with a minor in Professional Writing); however, I wouldn't come to a message board to explain the correct way to spell "'Ohana!" Hell, I'm sure half of the people here don't care how it's spelled, how it's pronounced or where the apostrophe goes... they just want to eat some delicious meat!!

That should be saved for grading papers and insulting coworkers! Not fellow Disney lovers! :rotfl:

Although I have to say... a LOT of people on these boards think that "dining" is "dinning." And that just ain't cool. ;)

So your saying that they should of spelled 'dinning' with only won N? Its not there fault, blame there high school english teachers!

Desert and dessert (okay, I get this one wrong myself ALL the time!)

Just remember there are 2 s's in dessert because you always want seconds.

I always respond to "What is your favorite desert at WDW" with "It used to be the desert scene in Horizons, now it is the scene in Listen to the Land":rotfl:

OK, I got my good laugh for the day!! I mean really......................

Whenever I respond to an 'Ohana post on the boards, I always throw in a gentle reminder at the beginning of a sentence, such as:

'Ohana (apostrophe at the beginning, no S on the end) is my favorite place to eat at WDW...

And while we're at it, it's Boma, not Boma's, and Jiko, not Jiko's, and Kona Cafe, not Kona's, and Raglan Road, not Ragland Road, and it's Walt Disney World (or just Disney World), not Disneyworld or Disneyland or Disney Land.

And no, I don't drink coffee at all, so that's not my problem. :goodvibes

You forgot to mention that it's Cinderella's Royal Table, not Cindy's

Thats how I was taught to remember that in school...still works for me. BTW, love your avatar. I have a firedancer tattoo on my calf that turned out better than I could have ever imagined it.

:rotfl::lmao::rotfl:

Well, if you really want an Irish pub, after you're done DINNING at O'HANA'S, go on over to RAGLAND Road and get you some beer.

:rotfl::lmao::rotfl:

And what really helps me ignore the spelling errors is adding a bit of Irish whiskey to that coffee:surfweb:

LOL, go to Ragland Road and get YOUS some beers. :lmao:

...and pass the whiskey... I sure would love an Irish coffee right now!

Just wanted to add my favorite, lose and loose.

One more pet peeve:

People who think that the way to pluralize any word is by adding an apostrophe "s."

Now I'm really done. :goodvibes

I am so glad you said it and not me. It's hard to take some people seriously about advice when they haven't taken the time to learn how to spell the restaurants they are "experts" on.

you mean it is NOT an irish pub I always thought it was.:lmao:;)

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I always wondered if perhaps some thought it was Irish. Or at the least some kind of Polynesian-Irish fusion restaurant.

This is the laugh I needed on this very dreary and wet afternoon. HA! HA! HA!

I'll be the 1st to admit though that as much as bad spelling annoys me, incorrect grammar drives me even more up the wall. Yes, I'm one of those nerds that loved English in school and did well. I'll also admit that when I first started posting on the DIS I wasn't sure how 'Ohana was spelled or that it was 'Ohana and not Ohana's. Of course now that I've been on her for over 2 1/2 yrs, I don't make that mistake anymore. :rotfl::rotfl:

Don't forget that some people type really fast and don't bother to go back and check their spelling or what they said.

You forgot loose and lose. I have no idea why, but loose and lose really get to me.

I have a friend who always uses "seen" instead of "saw"..."I seen that movie". It bothers the crud out of me, but I let it go....no use being critical!:goodvibes

See, I'm not so sure that it is because of the English teacher... my friends and I from high school have all had the same teachers, and I cannot tell you how many of them I've had to correct on facebook!

They're all afraid to say anything because they call me the grammar police. I'm probably not going to have many friends for long... :lmao:

I'm really not that bad - but I've restrained myself when it's come to the Disney boards!!!

I've always thought 'Ohana was O'hana, too... I guess it's the Irish in me :headache: I'm sorry!

I am the same way .I usually correct my friends in text and then never get a reply (and I wonder why I have no friends now! :rotfl:)
