I was looking at the menu for Ohana and did not see a children's menu. Is this correct, it is just the adult menu?

You can ask for a children's menu. However, when I asked for it in November, they would not let me order from it until my child tried the adult food. Which was ridiculous. But anyway. After we were halfway done eating, they finally brought him something he would eat.

Thankfully I have never had Sandra's scenario (which would infuriate me)! My daughter enjoys some of the adult fare but we always ask for a hot dog to be brought to her as well. And she is actually an adult (as in 11 years old now). They have never said a thing or had a problem with that and in fact have always up front asked if we want something kid friendly brought to her. For what they charge you want everyone to have something to eat!

We have gone to Ohana's quite a few times. We were offered a child's menu (rather quietly, so my children couldn't hear, just in case I didn't want them to have them ). I told them that my children love the adult food. However, my son overhead it and said, "no thank you, we love the food here".

However, I can understand how how some children would prefer the children's menu ( I believe he offer chicken nuggets ??? ) I cannot believe than they would tell anyone that they will only serve a child something from the child's menu AFTER he/she has tried the adult menu. That is ridiculous!!:sad2:

This is definitely NOT acceptable. I think that would be a great time to speak to the manager:mad: .

Well, it won't happen again. DH and I were taken off guard and didn't say anything at the time. Just looked at him like, huh? But next time we will be ready if it happens again.

When we went in August with my 3 year old I just asked for the children's menu and she got the chicken fingers and fries. There was not a problem. I don't think we got a menu but our server told us what was available. My little one was happy and we were able to enjoy our meal too! Just ask.

The table next to us had 4 children and two had chicken fingers, two had something else but I can't remember what.. They didn't seem to have any issues when they ordered:confused3

They have really good mac n cheese, too.

We too got the "we want them to try the adult food first" spiel in October. I simply told the server that we had been there before, and would like the mac n' cheese with no further hassle.

The Mn'C did come with no further hassle, except that our server told us we could not take the remainder of the Mn'C with us in a box. He said we could take anything else on the table, but not the Mn'C. We just laughed and said "okay".

BTW, he was the worst server we've ever had at Ohana over the years. No such hassle on our last trip in February.

The same thing happened to us in September. The waiter said "no" when I asked and he said that the kids should try the food and see whether they like it first. I said that was fine but waiting on that order is just going to hold up his table a few extra minutes in the end.

He did bring the menus over and we got the mac and cheese and the chicken strips. I didn't mean to be a pain but I knew my kids wouldn't eat the food and I did try during the meal but they wanted nothing to do with it.

Can you actually take the leftovers home or was the waiter joking?

We were offered the children's options first for our kids - the server just came over and said "the childrens choices are..." There were several choices - hamburger and grilled cheese I think are what we got.

We went last night and the little girl next to us got Mac and Cheese and a grill cheese sandwich

when we were there last Monday there was no mention of a children's menu and I'm glad about that. Even though my ds is somewhat of a picky eater he did manage to eat and it was the best "variety" of the week-by Thur. I was sick of seeing only chicken nuggets and mac and cheese on their plates.

We were told that the kids should try the food when we were there back in January. I asked for another option, though, because my daughter doesn't eat any meat or vegetables in sauces (like the stir-fry and salad). He quickly told me what was available and I ordered her a grilled cheese sandwich. My son happily ate all of the Ohana food though--I think it was his favorite place all week.

I'm glad I had read on here that kids' menu items would be available or we never would have tried this awesome place:thumbsup2

Last time we were there Chef Kim came out and offered the 5 year old in our party anything she wanted. He brought her a good looking hamburger and fries.

We have had mac and cheese and chicken fingers in the past. Our servers haven't given us a hard time and the kids usually get their food pretty quickly.

We've had no problem the two times we went just saying we wanted the chicken fingers and fries for the kids. They even said the kids could still eat what we had too. For dessert the kids along with my husband just get plain ice-cream. Never a problem.

I am starting to think that there is just one waiter who is doing this to people.

It must largely depend on the server.

We were there in January. We were still "organizing" (getting everyone seated, etc) and our waiter asked if the kids would need a childrens menu. I told him we'd be fine, as they LOVE the food at Ohana's. But he offered LONG before I could've even asked for one.
