Just listening to the Inside the Magic podcast, and a listerner called in to say how upset he was with the new 'Ohana menu - especially the new appetizers, dessert and sausage.

Anyone care to compare the new menu to the old?

We have been to OHana's several times over the past several years and were concerned that there was a change in the menu as well. We still went when we were at WDW last January and found it to still be wonderful. I miss the appetizers but there is so much food there I really can not complain. Also, the potatoes they have now are wonderful and the bread pudding dessert is fabulous. Made me forget the old pineapple dip that I loved. OHana's is still one of our favorite WDW restaurants, even with the change. Question - had the caller been there since the change? If not, they should go before complaining. I know it is hard to believe but it is still a great restaurant. JMHO Jay

Yes, the caller had been there, so he was complaining based on his experience. He had a lot of emotionaly attachment to 'Ohana, having been there on his wedding night about 10 years ago he said. I'm sure that entered into it. We've been going since '96 ourselves, and have seen a few changes here and there. Guess we'll just have to go again next month and try it ourselves!

I have heard many good reviews of the new menu, esp. the scallopped potatos and the bread pudding. After checking out the menu myself, we booked a dinner there for our November trip. It sounds good to me!

We have gone through some changes with 'Ohana. I would swear the first few times we went there (probably 1997) instead of the wontons they had eggrolls (my boyfriends sons favorite). He missed the eggrolls when they went to wontons but we still love the place.

We were just there Easter week and warned both that the menu changed again. We still wanted to eat their and we were more than satisfied. The salad was great, as were the chicken wings. The new cheesy potatoes are wonderful (much better than the rice). The veggies were kind of nondescript and I used to like the stringbeans. Both my boyfriend and his son (now 17) LOVED the new version of the shrimp. They kept asking for refills of these, and they kept on coming. All the meats were very good along with the turkey and sausage. The new fried wontons were ok(they were like the Chinese noodles you get a chinese restaurants when you sit down). All the diping sauces were very good.

I actually did miss the lazy susan type thing they used to serve things on. For the three of us there were alot of dishes on the table. This would not make me stop coming to this place.

The absolute best was the new desert. The bread pudding was to die for - and the banana sauce on the side was great. We loved the cold ice cream on top of the warm pudding with some warm sauce on top. My boyfriends son was not too happy with the bread pudding but they brought him extra ice cream and he was more than happy with this.

It is difficult when places you love make changes especially if this person went there on their wedding night. We will definately go there the next time we head back to WDW.

Well judging from what was hardest to get a time in when we called, I'd venture that Ohana isn't lacking for business.

Any time there's a change you will always get those who deadpan it for what it isn't rather than judging it for what it is.

Can't wait for the bread pudding. Right in my wheelhouse.

Wow, I don't know what the old menu was but I thought the new one was fabulous. :confused3

I find the new menu a 1,000 times better than the old. Everything was so delicious (especially the potatoes and wings). My dad went on and on about the dessert. The old was good but we all found the new one to be outstanding.

I like the original menu better, but the new one isn't bad. Not crazy about the new chicken wings, but the steak, turkey and pork are all still great.

Honestly, the biggest thing missing is the pineapple bread.

Oh My Goodness....you all all making me hungry!!! I have dined at Ohana with the old and the new menu. I like the old one, and I love the new one, as well. Besides the food being OH SO delicious, its the restaurant itself that makes the entire experience. Do not let a new menu hinder you from trying Ohana. Mahalo!

Have never been before just made an ADR this morning! Am really looking forward to it!!

The good news (or bad, depending on your waistline) is that the bread pudding/banana/caramel/ice cream dessert is all you can eat, too.

Yes... I had two helpings. As IF I wasn't already stuffed....

:thumbsup2

We loved the new menu. Additionally Chef Kim was wonderful and made that the best meal of the whole time! I would strongly encourage you to try it. We all went away both happy and full!

I find the new menu 1,000 times better than the old...
I have to question your taste buds then. ;) :teeth:

Those potatos are 'middle America', at best. The loss of the skewered shrimp for the "OK" sauteed shrimp is criminal and the replacement of the shrimp wontons for wonton chips is just totally unacceptable.

The only move that seems halfway acceptable is the dessert. At least bread pudding can be described as "Polynesian"...The same can't be said for those God auful potatos.

As for the reservation situation at 'Ohana...It has always been the hardest reservation in town and the ridiculous meal plans only excaserbate the situation...Wait for a year or so and this new menu will definately weed out many old time regulars.

We all loved it. In fact, since it was all you can eat, my DH tried to convince me to leave him there and take the kids to MK and he'd meet us later. :rotfl: Yeah, like he needed to sit in there for hours just endlessly eating...

I have eaten at 'Ohana's several times, both old and new menu's.
I much prefer the new menu. The potato's are a huge improvement over the rice, and the bread pudding with banana's foster sauce is IMO the best desert in all of WDW...it's awesome!!!
Go...and enjoy!! :thumbsup2

It seems to me most of the posters in this thread heartily disagree here, so I don't see the menu itself causing a big difference in the amount of people visiting Ohana. The negativity lately mostly seems to come from the complaints of bad service people have received, though we were there in October and had a wonderful time.
The potatoes may not be Polynesian, but they certainly aren't "middle america" either. They are pretty much a french dish. Potatoes sliced thinly and laden with heavy cream and possible a gruyere(or parmesan) cheese is NOT something you'll find everyday in Iowa. And these were my favorite of the whole night, along with the bread pudding. As far as the pineapple with caramel sauce...well...head down to your local grocery and buy a fresh pineapple and a tub of Marzetti Caramel apple dip and there ya go. I can get that anytime. I would like to see the shrimp come back in both the wontons and on the skewers, but other than that, it's all good.

I just made our ADR's for October this year, and once again Ohana is on the list. I can't wait to go back..the bread pudding is my favorite dessert in WDW! :goodvibes

Then apparently I love "middle America" potatoes. ;)

A very polite response to an apparent attempt to impune your tastes. Good work keeping this thread free of unnecessary jabs back and forth.
