I know that lots of people rave about Ohana. We ate there last summer, and thought it was horrible. The meat was either fatty or dry, the noddles and the dumplings tasted like they were from the box. And, we barely ate one bite of one course and the next one came out. I was so disappointed in this meal.

Sorry to hear you didn't like it. Did you say something to the server or manager?

We have always had good meals there. Yes our first time when the server brought the steak it was over done for me, I like med/rare beef. I politely asked for what I wanted and the server went right then and got something to my liking. And it was delish.

I'm trying it for the first time in Jan. I've heard good things about it. So maybe you had an off night. We usually always eat at Kona, one of our fav spots for dinner, but last Jan, I had the worst steak there. I think it can happen at any restaurant. I won't write off Kona because of 1 bad meal. And am looking forward to trying 'Ohana.

it's our favorite...and we have it booked twice next month including my birthday dinner:thumbsup2

We enjoyed our meal at Ohana. The steak was done exactly how we like it (med to med rare) and I loved the dumplings. The shrimp was spicier than I expected but yummy. I liked the chicken wings, too. We got to watch Wishes from our table, which was really cool.

On the downside the chicken and pork were a little dry. Our service started out well but went downhill over the course of the meal. We didn't get noodles and broccoli until I asked for them at the end of the meal. It took a long time to get our check and even longer to have the server run our card. In her defense, though, the kids games and hula were going on and then Wishes started, so she probably thought we were occupied.

No, it's not just you! We went 3-4 years ago, based on the raves on this board. We were totally disappointed and will never return. Meats were poor quality, tough and overcooked, shrimp had some kind of weird sauce on it and the sides were nothing to write home about. It was horribly noisy and, on top of that, there was an entertainer who was much more annoying than entertaining.

We were shocked that something so well loved on this board could be so bad.

Sorry you had a bad experience at O'hana. It is a "must do" for us. We have been there many times and there has been an occasion or two where it wasn't a home run, but their track record great. The Poly is our fave, but a a couple years ago our vacation it got derailed at check-in and it never got any better. Stuff happens!

I had a bad experience there a few years ago as well. Our food was not good at all.

I am going to give it another shot though and go on the assumption it was an off night.

I liked it well enough the first time we went, but the second time it just wasn't good. the proteins were vulcanized and the sides were basic, cold and they gave our party waaay more than we needed. My guess is you can still catch it on a good night and have fun, but my plan is not to go back.

We've had both good and not-so-good experiences there. We loved it on our May 2009 trip, but our Oct. 2010 trip wasn't so fabulous. Might be that the restaurant was having an off night, but the food wasn't awesome, just okay. We will go back next year however...kids love the theme and the variety is decent. Plus, it's now a tradition!

I'm with you OP. Just about as overrated as LC. We ate there this past May. The meat was dry, the poultry was tasteless, the shrimp was ok. Like you said, the noodles, wings and dumplings tasted like something right out of the freezer section. Our server was beyond awful. He was impossible to find, and when he did come around all he said was how busy he is. The chef came out to talk to my girlfriend and her dessert options (she has a nut allergy). After 10 mins he cam back out with our desserts but we still had our dirty dishes on the table, which the chef ended up cleaning off for us. The waiter gave me a hard time about getting me a new check after a beer I ordered never showed up to the table but managed to show up on my check (eventually it was taken care of). Just an all around awful experience, food and service.

I like it. I absolutely love the character breakfast and consider it one of the best in the park.

the dinner is good, not great. I miss the pineapples and caramel sauce for dessert and the potatoes.

The popularity of the place is a mystery to me. We ate there 4 years ago for both dinner and the character breakfast and vowed never to return. Both meals were plagued by poor service and mediocre food. Breakfast service was particularly bad, but the character interaction was terrific. The server disappeared for long periods. We had to ask a manager for juice and waffles. Dinner service was slightly better, but we didn't care for having all the food plopped on our table at one time. The server was also pushy with my kids about telling them to try different things. I had to repeatedly remind her about their allergies and that they only could eat the food the chef had served them. The entire atmosphere of the restaurant is loud and chaotic. It's impossible to carry on a conversation. The dinner cost as much as our meal at Brown Derby, which was far superior in food quality and atmosphere.

I couldn't agree more it was such a let down. Have no desire to go back.

OP and others you are not alone!!!

DH and I ate at O'hana for the first time mid October and felt that it was the worst sit down meal that we have had thus far at WDW and neither of us want to return. For most items they were just not prepared in a way that DH and I found appetizing, maybe others like mushy broccoli and overdone dry meat but not us.

Bread: good flavor but slightly dry, also we were not given butter I don't know if that is normal or not
Salad: lettuce does not a salad make!!!!!! seriously all we had in our bowl was tons of lettuce in a very sweet dressing it was crispy and fresh but this is not what I consider a salad
Potstickers: Tasted fine but they are not really potstickers, more like crispy dumplings, but by far the best part of our meal
Wings: Not crispy at all very sweet and sticky, fine but not special
Noodles: cold and absolutly flavorless neither one of us had more than a bite
Broccoli: Inedible!!!! it was wet and mushy and way too seasoned. I usually like crisp broccoli with nothing on it so maybe it was just a difference in taste here but idk, seriously it was like they heated up frozen broccoli and covered it up with tons of seasoning
Dipping sauces: all good
Meat: All very dry and terribly overcooked (could not find any beef less than medium and neither of us like beef that overcooked) I asked DH if I should see if they had something rarer they could bring him but he said the cut was not good and he didn't like the flavor anyway so it would be a waste (I had given up at this point and was just laughing at the entire thing). He liked the shrimp the best but found them difficult to eat.
Dessert: DH liked it I don't like bread pudding or banana so I had a bite and left it to him.

Also that parade left me:scared1: A lot of people comment about how loud the antics and such at WCC are but I have honestly never seen the parade at O'hana discussed, so I figured it would be more tame, um NOOO!! It was horrible, the lady was so loud and we had a table right on the parade path and many of the little kids would hit our table with their maracas as they passed and oh boy those were LOUD!!!

All in all we will NOT be returning here, we had a good laugh at the whole thing but in the end not enough Lapu Lapus in the world would make that enjoyable for us

we have a 5:25 adr here in early Dec.
i am hoping it is possible to request a table AWAY from the entertainment and parade route....please tell me this is possible!

Yes, it's just you. No one else in the world has ever had a bad meal there. :lmao:

There are plenty of not so great reviews on the boards about this restaurant. I liked it, but if you didn't, just don't go back. No biggie.

Did you get hit in the foot with coconuts like we did? And then have rude parents knock one of you over trying to get their kids coconut? And then give you an attitude for getting in their kids way? :furious:
