We currently have o'hana booked for dinner, but is the food worth all the fuss? Does it have a smoky taste on the meats?? The only think that looks appetizing to me is the wings and the bread pudding. Am I missing out on something if we cancel this reservation?

If you like food in the summer you will love ohana. i absolutely made that my favorite must-do again restaurant.

I actually am a big wing lover- but they are "okay" compared to the meats you get. I ate the dumplings like candy! And the lo mein was just delicious- sweet and delicious! I have pictures I can send your way (But- the banana pudding was OMG out of this world!)

The meats are not smoked like they are at the WCC. The food is good and I would definetly try it once.

Thanks for the info. Hmm...maybe we will keep it on the list.
I have heard mixed reviews about eating there, and after I booked it seems like it's completely filled up! So that must say something about the place. maybe we will give it a try

Thanks. As long as they don't have a smoky taste then I will be fine with that! Are they bbq flavor?

I'm sure I will be in the minority, but I was not as crazy about O'hana as most are on the boards. By no means was it bad, but I didn't think it was all that great. When we go back in the spring, it will not be one that I have to repeat. I thought the meat was tough, and dry. I would choose Kona Cafe next door over O'hana. I will say, they have the atmosphere, but strictly on food, Kona.

We have been to 'Ohana once. I had planned to go back this year but after looking at the menu items, we discovered that the only thing our family would probably eat are the meats and the kids would have to have something different anyway. We loved the potatoes but the noodles just don't appeal to us. None of us would eat the dumplings and I would be the the only one that would try the wings. The veggies would be ok. No one in our family will eat peel-and-eat shrimp. So we are going to Kona instead.

Ohana is awesome! You will enjoy it!

If you already have it booked, you might as well go give it a try! See what all the fuss is about. I personally wasn't really wow'd by the food, but lots of others sure seem to like it a lot!

BTW, the meats do not have any bbq sauce on them.

I don't love 'Ohana. DH does, so we'll be going again on our next trip.

The meat is OK. I particularly liked the turkey. It's like a clean BBQ flavor (like when you cook meat on the BBQ without a lot of seasoning).

I didn't love the sides, but the salad was awesome. And if you have a kidlet with you and they're not interested in the meat and such, they make sure to get something good for the kid, too. DD3 had macaroni & cheese.

I've seen others rave about the service there. I wasn't pleased. The gentlemen who helped us were too busy with other tables to take care of us, but I'm hoping that's a fluke.

O'hana is not worth the fuss. The meats do have a smoky taste. (I hate smoked meats!) Everything is very heavy! I think people like the concept of "all you can eat kebobs", but you probably have a restaurant near you at home that does it.

I would prefer Boma by far, because they also have many "lighter" dishes than just meat and the taste of each varies. Most are mild (what I love - salt & pepper only for me please!) and some add some spice, but the selection is outstanding - you will definately find something exceptional for your taste buds. Their soup and salad selection are probably unbeaten by any WDW restaurant.

Just because a place is full is NO indication that the food is good. Many people go because of the characters to venues. Examples of great venues but horrid food: Chef Mickey's, Cinderalla's Royal Table, SciFi Dinein Theatre.

I think the food is pretty good, and the atmosphere is great. However, my last two visits have witnessed declining service - food being presented and the server disappearing for long periods. It was very hard to get a drink refill.

My dh loves it, so does my 11 year old. I like it as does my 7 year old. My dh is a big meat eater and I like the sides and the shrimp. ANd I love the dessert. I think it is definitely worth a try. We have gone every trip and I just booked us for November.

I've picked all the dining places where you think the food is horrid :lmao:
We will contemplate it a little more but I think we are going to bypass this one. I now have to decide if we want to still do Shula's.

Well... last time at SciFi, I let my DS eat, but I didn't. Last time at Chef Mickey, I ate, but we mainly went because we had 3 kids under 5 and the characters ruled! It was loud and raucous... they loved it. I made up for it at the next meal I had. ;)

(My current faves are Chefs De France, Akershus, Boma, Citricos, Raglan Road, HDDR). Re-trying California Grill, Coral Reef on free dining trip starting tomorrow!:woohoo:

Believe it or not, everyone has different opinions about what is good and what is not. I would agree that a full restaurant doesn't necessarily mean the food when it is a character meal, but there are no characters at 'Ohana for dinner. A full restaurant simply means that a lot of people like the place.

I will say this about 'Ohana. 6 or 7 years ago, it was absolutely our favorite. Then about 3 or so years ago they messed with the menu, and we started to like it less. Well, this last trip, we tried it again, and it was back to just how we love it. It is one of our favorites once again, if not our absolute favorite.

If you are a meat eater, and like Polynesian style seasonings and dipping sauces, give it a try. If you are not, go somewhere else. But understand, a lot of people absolutely love the place, us included. And I'm not into dry meat, either.

That is for sure!

I do tend to favor places with the freshest ingredients, best quality food, rather than character venues / all-you-can eat places. Sometimes you luck out and get both.... like IMHO Akershus or Boma.

Most definitely in our top 3 favorites! This and Boma are the 2 dh want me to book again for the next trip, he loved them. The girls loved the atmosphere, learning the hula and coconut races too!
