Ohana Discussion

The ohana dinner is fantastic. We love meat , so this is a perfect meal for all three of us! The bread pudding is absolutely delicious! My DD can be pretty antsy at dinners, so we took a risk going here last year. There were some activities for kids (coconut rolling or something) which made it a great place for her. Plus the romantic feeling of the restaurant appealed to DH and I. We will be going again in August and I'm sure this will become a must-do for us. It is definitely very family friendly.

I have this pencilled in for our trip, just decided today! I previously wrote it off due to the meat-centric menu (my bf is vegetarian) but since learning that Chef TJ has moved there and seeing some of the amazing special vegan/veggie/allergen free meals he's prepared for others i'm totally sold :goodvibes We had amazing service from him at Boma in 2007, he made my bf a huge vegetarian stirfry in addition to the buffet... Definitely our favourite meal of the trip :)

Intersesting discussion... hoping to get O'hana for our december trip. However, it is looking less likely since our romantic trip for 2 has quickely become a holiday-a-palooza for 10.

So, we're hoping to get a ressie for 10 (!!!). Seems like it would be a fuin one to do with a big group, but I'm already prepared to accept that a ressie for 10 at O'hana will be a tough one to get! :santa:

Ohana was probably my favorite place that we ate in Disney. It's really a combination of food and atmosphere that makes it so unique to me. The food was not the best we had at Disney, but it was very tasty and combined with the festive atmosphere it's hard not to love Ohana.

Some of the meat was overcooked, but some was just right. The sides were all delicious. The bread pudding was TO DIE FOR! They catered to my picky children by bringing them food from Kona. We had no problems with check in, but we did wait about 20 minutes to be seated.

We always stay at the Polynesian and we'll definitely be going back to Ohana on our next trip!

Ate there for the first time last Sept. I really liked it, but my husband did not dig it. lots of the food had sweet sauces on it, and he does not do sweets. He did like the shrimp. I guess that is what he gets for going to a polynesian restaurant. Hope you enjoy it!

Not sure if this was supposed to be tongue in cheek or not...your mad she smiled at you and was perky and you got a big table?

I agree, I was truly shocked. Imagine told you would have to wait 20 minutes but then a table opened up and they seated you almost immediately.

Then they put you at a table which wasn't cramped. I guess the chairs were nailed to the floor so you couldn't move them a bit closer together.

And then they dropped your food and ran. With that cavernous table perhaps they should have joined you for a bite and a chat.

And to top it all off the "little girl" that took you to your table was perky. Perhaps if you had talked to the manager they would have taken something off your bill.:rotfl:

They didn't enjoy it. Why is that not ok? To each his own...

We're considering 'Ohana for our next trip, and frankly, the "drop and run" comment gives me pause. We enjoy buffets (which I know 'Ohana is not, but I throw that out for comparison), but always feel a little rushed for some reason. Wondering whether 'Ohana leaves you with the same "what just happened" feeling.

Lizzybear - I'm vegetarian too and have also heard good things about this restaurant accomodating veg. diets.

Snark, anyone?? Wow--what a nasty response.
I would be a little weirded out if some waitperson just stood there and smiled at me when I was trying to do something (and hurry, b/c you feel bad making them wait--when it was not your fault to begin with!).
Also, putting 2 of you at a table for 8? That's ridiculous! Yeah--pp (second person I'm quoting), I'm sure you love to eat a huge table when you can barely see the person, let alone talk to them! How nice, right?

Also--your waitperson is supposed to be engaging--not just dump meat on your table and run. Again, if we're truly supposed to eat like animals--why not just sit there with our mouths open and have the waitstaff throw pieces of meat AT US?? That would be fun!

I thought 'Ohana was OK. I loved some of the food--the wings, the salad and the bread pudding. I thought the meat was tough, the noodles were boring and the dumplings were hard around the edges (but most are). I did really enjoy our waitress--she was super sweet and did a great job--especially tough since she was VERY pregnant.
The show though??? BORING. We had a late reservation and that may had something to do with it--there was one hula lesson and that was it. Nothing else.
We (my dd (7) and I) were a bit let down. I would, however, be willing to try it again. We've gone for breakfast too and that was good. I'd do either one again.

and overall we like it. we were seated off in the corner at a table for 6 (we are 4) but welcomed the extra space with two dd's lol. We weren't in the main room but dd still participated in the limbo and coconut race :) She really loved that. My 2 year old danced to the music while eating her own loaf of bread lol...The atmosphere is very very nice, relaxing almost I thought. The salad and potstickers were my fav, dh liked the shrimp and meats of course. The pork was good and I LOVE sweet so the sauces were great. The veggie mix was good, i didn care for the noodles but the kids loved em...kind of reminded me of ramen lol, dh and dd loved the wings and the dessert was incredible :) Waitress brought out fries for the kiddos and they each got their own ice creams. Nice waitress but was a bit rushed...but nice and on top of things so I cannot complain. We will go back, we liked it, but i secretly like kona better I think ;)

Ohana is a definite must do for us. It was my dh's favorite place to eat last year. The food was great, the atmosphere was fun, and the service was great as well. Oh, and the bread pudding was one of the best desserts we have EVER had anywhere!

Here is the deal I have a ressie for 2 so that means if someone would like to join me you can I have room for 1 person so if you want let me know its for Thurs Sept 24th at 740 pm

We ate @ O'hana for Breakfast on our last trip and loved it. We are having a hard time picking between Breakfast again & dinner.

Last time there we were very upset with the quality of the food. IMO, was like a FAST FOOD BUFFET, where plates of just ok food were brought to your table. In the past, early 90's, it was much better. We have made our last visit !

We are thinking about trying Ohanas on our next trip in Oct. Where can I see more pics of the food? I saw the ones from a PP...but I would like to see more.

Also, I asked on another thread about the kids menu. My oldest DD is an "odd" eater. It's not that she's very picky...but she goes through these phases where she only wants to eat certain things. (Yes, I know that to some that seems picky...but it's more of a sensory issue...DD has CP.) She's not a big meat eater unless it's chicken. A PP mentioned they brought their kids food from Kona. How would I go about doing that if there's nothing at Ohana that I think she will eat?

I'd like to see more too!
I do recall a thread sorting out the huge amount of food pics into categories but I can't find it now.

Ohana is my favorite restaurant at Disney! I love the atmosphere of the Polynesian and the staff has always been amazing (except one time). They have a lot of vegetarian items already served to you (salad, noodles, veggies, bread) which is more than enough if you don't want the vegetarian entree of tofu and veggies with rice. However, Chef TJ was amazing last time and made even MORE food for us since we were both vegetarians. He brought everything out himself and explained it and then came back a few minutes later to make sure we liked it. He and our server were amazing!

My favorite part about Ohana, though, is that you can watch the Wishes fireworks from your table if you have a good spot. They also have fabulous tropical drinks and the dessert is TO DIE FOR! Usually when there is a wait I have a drink in the Tambu Lounge where the bartenders are always friendly and helpful!

I have nothing but good things to say about this place and can't wait until I can go back! It is the ONLY real must-do for me and I wouldn't even bother going back to Disney if I couldn't eat there!

It baffles me when people get upset over someone elses review. It's their opinion and they have a right to it. I'M EXCITED to eat at Ohana in October. I enjoy getting everyone elses opinions but i'm going to try it and form my own opinion.
