My DH, 2 sons (7 and 4), and the boys grandmothers are all going to Disney. We are trying to decide if we should try to do O'hanas for dinner or Teppan Edo. The boys tend to like the traditional children's favorites (chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, etc). Which would you recommend? Is it hard to get something different at O'hana for the kids?

Thanks in advance.

We went to both of these restaurants for the first time during our trip last week. My twins are very picky eaters. Everyone in my family loved the food at Teppan Edo. I do not know if Teppan Edo would offer an alternative menu for children.

My twins did not like the family style menu at Ohana's at all. However, Ohana's is very accomodating to picky eaters. They brought a grilled cheese for my one son and a cheeseburger for my other. The restaurant offers the traditional kids' menu choices if your children do not like the family style meal. We had a great time at Ohana's. My boys loved the coconut races!

We've eaten at both places...I think 'Ohana is much more kid-friendly. You can get a kid's meal and your kids can also graze from the food served to you, if something interests them. It's a little loud, but the kids enjoy watching the action at the grill and participating in the coconut races, the singing and storytelling. We've been with kids ages 2-13 and have had no complaints from kids or adults (grandparents included).

We love both, however it sounds like Ohana's would be a much better bet for your picky eaters. there are no special kids items at Teppan Edo, however you can get macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers, etc at Ohana's. Have fun!

my picky eaters loved tepon edo. I allowed my children almost 3 and 5 to each pick a fav resturant and we would return. |Even out of all the character dining, coral reef, chef mickey, crt and princess dining they both picked teppon edo....as did picky dh

I've never been able to get a ressie at O'hana's, but we did do Teppan Edo. I found the food there to be VERY bland and therefore good for picky eaters. Don't get me wrong, it was delish, and quite a bit more healthy than the mac and cheese your child will eat at every other restaurant. It's a good change of pace for picky eaters.

We haven't eaten at Teppan Edo, but we do love Ohana. My DD is picky and ordered a childrens meal(at Ohana) which I did think took rather long to get to the table. My daughter enjoyed the activites that Ohana has for the kids. This made it really nice for us, I love my children and we take them to fine dining without a second thought. But its fun to see them have such a good time, smiling, laughing, all while we are enjoying great food!;)

We've done both a couple of times and love them each. Tappan Edo is similar to any Tapanaki restaurant in most towns. It is fun for kids to watch the chefs cook, and we love the food.
We also love O'hanas. There is a wonderful singer and games the kids play. And as others have said, they will bring out a kids meal if your kids don't want the family style meal. Our kids each ordered a meal, but picked at the noodles which we all loved. Plus it has one of my favorite desserts on property in their bread pudding. The restaurant is not something you can typically get in your local neighborhood, but a Disney classic.
If you are only picking one of them, I would probably go with O'hana.

Thank you for all your advice. It is always nice to hear from people who have actually been to the restaurants.

Wow, tough choice, any way you can pick both? We've eaten at both, and they each have something great to offer. My kids loved the all you care to eat O'hanas. The atmosphere is just fun and has that touch of Hawaii. Both my kids want to return there. Teppan Edo is also nice, check out the menus to both places on Allears.net. With younger kids I'd definately choose Ohanas. For older kids, Teppan Edo, but you cant go wrong with either. Maybe just flip a coine?

Ohanas was not as big of a hit with everyone as i thought it would be. Kids did not care for the noodles or dumplings. Shrimp was their favorite, but was the last to be served. They thought the meats were just ok. My 2 year old ate very little...but it is hard to gauge with him as he eats in spurts.

They all loved Teppen Edo, though we do hibachi here at home. They all thought the food was great. My 2 year old ate much better here...white rice and steak and chicken...

So though I really like Ohanas, my family would tell you to go with Teppen Edo!
That was their first pick and/or tied for first with Yachtsman Steakhouse!

I agree with most of the others here. Ohanas is a better choice with kids. My DDs both absolutely LOVE Ohana, and we tried Teppan Edo this trip, while they were entertained by the chef, they prefer the different selections at Ohana.

We love Teppan Edo. 'Ohana was so-so. Food was not great. Meat was pretty dry, although DD said her second batch of turkey was better than the first. The Shrimp was good but so messy that we didn't eat much of it. Since we didn't have any young children with us, the entertainment wasn't really an attraction for us. More of an annoyance.

Teppan Edo had awesome food. The chef was entertaining. I had a shrimp and steak combination that I am planning to have again in a month for my birthday dinner!

With adults I'd pick Teppan Edo without a second thought. But the kids might like the entertainment at 'Ohana. And I think you'd have a better shot at getting something the kids will eat at 'Ohana if they are that picky. But the standard menu isn't something that would necessarily appeal to children. The vegetable is brocolli - enough said!
