Hi Everyone!

I'm really having a tough time deciding on 'Ohana or Kona for dinner. We're doing both for breakfast during our August stay but I only want one for dinner. I have a dd (9) and dd (5).

Any help with which one of these you recommend over the other and why?

I'd pick Ohana with your girls - for sure! Kona has yummy food, but is just a cafe. Ohana has a lot of fun things, perfect for your girls' ages - hula lessons, coconut races, etc. My DD7 LOVED Ohana last summer! Food was great and we had fun too. I don't think you can go wrong with picking Ohana if you have to settle for just one.

I have Kona for dinner and Ohana for breakfast for our June trip. I can't find Ohana available for dinner, but would definitely book it again if I could.

We had a bad experience at Ohana on our last trip. We really wished that we had eaten at Kona instead. However, to be fair, our first trip to Ohana in 2007 was great and the kids enjoyed doing the hula at dinner. But, the second time around, Ohana seemed to be a very different place. It was a bad experience and we have taken it off of our list. I know that every restaurant can have a bad night though. The 2 are very different. Ohana has some things going on for the kids (the hula, and coconut races) and everything is served family style with no menu to order from. Kona on the other hand, you order from a menu and there is no entertainment for the kids. I hope this helps. Enjoy whichever you choose. I also would add that we ate at Ohana for breakfast and it was good. Totally different from dinner time.

Ohana would definitely be my pick! I went to Ohana last August, where we had a later ADR. We didn't feel rushed at all even though it was near closing time. The only thing about Ohana is that it is a high-demand restaurant so you would have to make your ADR for it pretty early to get your preferred time. Ohana is a different experience, they have a ukeleli player and interactive activities for children. It is a big restaurant (spacious) so it isn't particularly loud until the the ukelele player starts singing. The food is some of the best i've ever had at the Dis, and the banana bread pudding and coconut bread are to die for! Kona is also very good, the service is pretty good, but they are usually a little slower around dinner hours because that tends to be their busiest part of the day. The food isn't as good as Ohana in my opinion and not as cultural. It is more sushi and things from other parts of the world. If you are looking for entertainment, authentic polynesian food, a great atmosphere, and quick waitstaff, Ohana is certainly your best choice! :D

You have to do 'Ohana! We loved it during our Dec trip so much that we changed some ADRs around just to eat there again later in the week. Plus, the entertainment continued through our meal & it was a whole lot of fun. I the dining options are plentiful for everyone & the food was delicious!

Definitely O'hana! We were really disappointed with Kona, and while we might try it again way on down the road, O'hana is a must do on our very next trip!

We're doing Kona in July for dinner. We have little kids (ages 3 and 5 when we go) but the food at Ohana doesn't appeal to me and DH as much as Kona's menu, which looks great. Plus, we have several character meals and other entertaining meals for the kids planned (Whispering Canyon, 50s Prime Time), so we added a couple of more low-key dinners in our mix. We're staying 10 nights so we wanted some "regular" restaurants too! Ohana is still a consideration for us though when the boys are older because of the entertainment, probably for dinner. We'll see how it goes. We go every other year so we have time for them to still enjoy the entertainment there.

I thought the meal at Ohana was ok. I liked everything, but the meat was overkill. So much meat!

But for your girls, I would choose it. They will love the games and silliness!

Sold. 'Ohana it is. Gotta give it a try. I swear, I MUST stop tweaking my ressies and just go with it. Anyone else find it hard not to tweak them? I'm driving my husband crazy.

I think when people keep on "tweaking" their 'completed' plans is what leads people down the path of developing expectations that may not be met.
