We want to try a new restaurant this summer. We have four adults in our party and 2 children ages 3 and 4. We're staying off property so we are not on DDP and are trying to limit our TS. We have never tried 'Ohana or Chef Mickey's and were trying to pick one. We are trying to decide between 'Ohana for dinner or Chef Mickey's breakfast. Which would you recommend and why?

It depends.:confused3 If you're looking for a character breakfast, Chef Mickey's is the one to pick. If you're looking for a nice, relaxing dinner, go with O'hana. If I had to choose for you, I'd pick O'hana. I enjoy the food (love the salad and bread) and they have some fun activities for kids at dinner.

Ohana! Of course, we are a bunch of meat-eaters, but with the construction last September, we found Chef Mickey's to just be OK. Now, if you don't have any other character meals, you might just have to do Chef Mickey's for the kids. :thumbsup2

Thanks, for your responses. I think that we are going to go with 'Ohanas. We plan on doing lunch at CP so we will get our character meal then. We're excited to try something new. Any idea on what time to book it if we want to see the floating electrical light pageant?

Great choice!!! We love dinner at 'Ohana -- it's so much fun!!!

The EWP at the Poly was at 9pm last week (I think that's the usual time, but I'm not sure when you are traveling).

Have a great trip!:)

I have only been to Ohana's for breakfast. What activities do they have for kids at dinnertime?
Is it similar to WCC?

I found this - it may help you plan the dinner time:
http://allears.net/tp/ewp.htm

found info below at "All Ears.net":

Although the pageant generally follows the schedule below, check with the Guest Services Desk at your Magic Kingdom Resort for times during your stay. Inclement weather can cause cancellation of the pageant.

Polynesian Resort -- 9 p.m.
Grand Floridian -- 9:15 p.m.
Wilderness Lodge -- 9:35 p.m.
Fort Wilderness -- 9:45 p.m.
Contemporary Resort -- 10:05 p.m.
Magic Kingdom -- 10:20 p.m. (only during extended MK park hours)

Note that when the Magic Kingdom Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m., the Electrical Water Pageant runs about 7-20 minutes later.

Not trying to change your mind... but we are not fans of Ohana dinner... we all found the meat very fatty and salty!!!! Everything else was good...

We do Chef Mickeys breakfast the last day... as our send off from Mickey... this way we get in our last min. pictures...

Have a great trip!

Thank you, mmmears, for the time, and LoveTheEars, for the link. That helps. Just curious on about how much time I should allow for dinner. As for activities, I read in the UG that they have coconut/broomstick races and hula hoop contests and luau type entertainment. It sounds like fun, but I am a little concerned about Angela's report of fatty meat--something that I don't really like at all. Hmm...Good thing I have a couple of days to think about it before I have to book my ADR's. :)

I agree w/the "fatty" meats @o'hana. My 2 girls' did enjoy it but they liked Wilderness Lodge just as well. It's cheaper, more variety, they do kids' "games" (like the pony race & KETCHUP!)& you could see the water "parade".

It's the best. They pipe in the Wishes music while you dine, it really makes for a great dinner. I was surprised how high up the Wishes fireworks went seeing them from Ohana's. As a side note you can see the water parade from the Poly as well.

I def pick Chef Mickey's breakfast over Ohana's dinner. The breakfast was so fun, and it is less expensive, and the food was awesome! The characters make it so much fun. My 2 yo and 7 year old loved it! They weren't a huge fan of Ohana, but did have fun, just not as much!

Since you are going to Crystal Palace, I would go with Ohana. Chef Mickey's is great for kids and the food is okay. The atmosphere is amazing at Ohana's and the food is wonderful! Since you are limiting the TS meals, if you wanted to have a sit down breakfast at WDW, I would suggest changing CP to breakfast, then go with Ohana's for dinner. CP has an amazing breakfast!! Have a great trip!

While I don't eat much meat at 'ohana, I did enjoy a couple pieces of turkey and steak. Neither was fatty, and I am picky. Also, the salad & sides were yummy, and their dessert is the BEST!!!

We got leis there, and the games were fun!

Thanks for all of your ideas and opinions! I really appreciate it! Everybody on the DisBoards is so helpful.

My college-aged cousin just decided to join us. She hasn't been to WDW for several years so I want to make sure it's an extra magical trip for her. I think she might really enjoy 'Ohana. We might consider adding an extra TS since she's joining us so maybe we'll end up doing Chef Mickey's too. :confused3I'm just glad she decided to join us before the 90 day mark. :goodvibes

I'm really intrigued about viewing Wishes from 'Ohana--something that I hadn't considered before. It sounds cool!

Thanks again!
