Wondering if i would be able to make reservations to Ohana last minute - I have res. for Kona...but Ohanas is booked solid :( does things seem to open up last moment?

Edited to add:

Would you cancel your res. for Kona to book Ohanas if it became available?

We cancelled a 5:00 p. m. reservation on the morning of, a couple weeks ago. We had been to Chef Mickey's that morning and just decided that time was running out too quickly on our vacation and we wanted more park time. Keep trying. Good Luck.

thanks i will....

Do you think we will be disappointed with Kona? we have never been to either one

Keep checking! I started checking about a month ago to try to get in for dinner in December and I finally got a time I wanted last week! I found probably one or two cancellations per week but waited until I found one at a time that worked for me. I tended to find the most cancellations around after work/before dinner time (between 5 and 6 EST).

Good luck!

We were not successful on our last trip, but definately keep trying.

I've been looking for a spot for several days. Hoping for a 7:30 ish on Dec. 17.

They do happen...just keep trying. I know some people check multiple times a day when trying to get a ressie. I've only been to Kona for bkfst, so I dont know about dinner there...but, here is some pixie dust to help with that Ohana ressie :tinker:

Keep trying for 'Ohana, but Kona is REALLY yummy. Watch the cancellation thread for your month (though that isn't always foolproof, I coordinated with someone on there for their 'Ohana ADR and when she canceled it I couldn't find it online nor could the CM on the phone...she said the system will sometimes hang onto canceled ADRs if the restaurant is overbooked).

Keep checking several times a day for every day of your trip. You might not get the day you want or the time, but you might find something. Our ADR's are for 9:50 which is far from ideal but we couldn't miss Ohana.

I have only eaten at Kona for breakfast (they have the BEST coffee in the world) and lunch. For us, Kona would not be a substitute for Ohana - but that's just us.

Keep checking the website and trying anyway. I have changed my ADR's too many times to count and I'm sure I made someone very happy when they found an opening after I cancelled. I don't post my changes on the boards, heck I would be here all the time with posts as I change my ADR's with every trip report and dining review I read. Do think I am easily influenced? LOL, they get me with the pics. But yes, keep checking as there are many out there like me who do cancel and yes, I have booked, cancelled, and rebooked both 'Ohana and Kona several times and my trip is still 2 mos. away!

I tried to book this for a friends trip last month and never could get it. I kept looking while they were there and lucked up. They had such a great meal!

The last 5 times I have been to Ohana were reservations I booked closer to my trip after times opened up from cancellations. Seriously, just keep trying!

thanks i will....

Both are nice places. If you've never dined at either than I'd say you should stick with Kona. It is entirely possible to go nuts with all the choices available at WDW. Relax. There are no WRONG answers at WDW. Try to let the choices be fun, not something to fret.

I like that Kona has sushi. They don't have a big sushi menu, but they have some tasty rolls (many are even cooked if you've not had raw sushi!).

I think the decor at Kona is prettier. 'Ohana has some view of the fireworks, but it's not a perfect view. Some tables have a very limited view. It also has a little bit of live performance for the kids - so I think those two things are part of the draw. Kona is quieter, so if you prefer quiet dining, you may like Kona better.

I think I slightly prefer the food at 'Ohana, but that's because I like that the meal includes veggies. Many meals at WD are skimpy on veggies these days.

Kona has WAAY better desserts.

So it's really a matter of preference. Kona is a little easier to get ADR-wise, but it also get filled up regularly.

We usually score Ohana last minute. Last vacation, kids wanted to go to a kids club, so I hopped online to see what restaurants had availability that night near a kids club. Well, lo and behold...Ohana had a 645! Snagged it!

We ate at Kona last vacation, too, and both meals were OUTSTANDING! Vibe at Ohana is more lively and fun, Kona is (not quiet but) not loud, a little more reserved but no where near stuffy!

You should enjoy both places!

Like the other PP's have said keep checking often and check the cancelation thread for the month you are going.

That's how I was able to get Ohana for Thanksgiving week with only 15 days left before we leave

Good luck :thumbsup2

you can always try being a walk in...get there at 5 pm when they open and see if can get in..

Actually, given the choice between Kona and Ohana, I'd pick Kona, hands-down! I love that place. We don't do a lot of table-service meals on our trips, but always go to Kona at least once (if not twice!) each trip.
