Can someone tell me about O'hana at the Poly?

I noticed that you dont need ressies but the wdwinfo page states that the food is not good. :confused3

We are looking for somewhere to eat Friday nite that we dont have to make ressies for due to not sure what time we will be arriving....

I really like the looks of the menu at Ohana for my picky DH.

Any reviews lately? TIA!

Great minds must think alike! I was posting about Ohana at almost the same time as you. I look forward to the responses we get! :)-Kelly

Ohana is very, very popular and personally, I have always found the food to be outstanding. I would doubt very serviously if you could walk up to Ohana's on a Friday night and get a decent seating time, especially if you are going to be there during Free Dining. Kona is also at the Poly and it is also good, but not quite as hard to get a reservation at.

We have done Kona, and I am reallly wanting to try Ohana....so you can call and make ADR's for the place even if they say ressies arent required?

Technically, reservations aren't required at any WDW restaurants (except Victoria and Alberts), but if you don't want to wait 2 hours or get turned away all together, then yes you really need to make ADRs at Ohana or any other popular restaurant for that matter. I would call right now and see if you can get a seating for Ohana. There's a strong possiblity that they are already booked up, as you are traveling during the Free Dining period. Good Luck!

Not to discredit wdwinfo but I totally disagree with them saying that you do not need reservations for Ohana's. Like the OP said, it is an extremely popular restaurant and we've always found it necessary to have ressies. I also have to disagree with the fact that the food is not good. Imo, the food is wonderful. I will miss the cheesey potatoes. :( All in all, I think you were given some misleading information. Don't discredit Ohana's. It's great- our favorite.

I think we're talking about a couple of different things here....

When a restaurant says that reservations are required...it means that they have a policy of not seating anyone who shows up without a reservation. So, "reservations not required" at 'Ohana just means that the restaurant does not have that policy. You can walk up and ask for a table, and if they have an open table, they'll seat you.

BUT....

The reality is that 'Ohana (and many, many other WDW restaurants) are so popular that they only rarely have open tables. And if they're fully booked for that meal, they won't let you wait for a table.

So, while restaurants aren't required at 'Ohana, your chances of being able to get in without one are slim.

So....When we were at Ohana in April, they JUST changes to dished to include the dumplings and thai noodle dish -plus ther were no more potatoes.
We are eating there again next week and AllEarsNet's menu says there is no Thai noodles on the menu?

Did it change again.?

Has anyone eaten there VERY recently?
Can you confirm what dishes there are now, aside from the meats and salas? Thanks. :thumbsup2

As the site staff reference in regard to Ohana, "'Ohana has a large and loyal following who obviously see something we don't," nor do we. There is also a Unplug review in the archive which is rather accurate too, from 2007. The strong following brings little change to this restaurant which continues to make declining standards over the years, that also allows the 2007 review to still be very accurate.

We were there Sunday, August 17th and it was indeed the noodles (which we loved) and the dumplings.... we also had the wings, salad w/ the honey-lime dressing, the coconut bread, the broccoli, and of course the meats..... followed by the banana bread thingie with the banana foster sauce (yummm) for dessert :thumbsup2

Awesome....thats what I hoped for. I loved me them noodles. :) Thank you for the response. :thumbsup2

I would definitely call to see if you can get an ADR. We were there a couple of weeks ago and had an ADR for breakfast and still waited 40 minutes to be seated and it was just 2 of us. The food was good and the pineapple bread was wonderful! We will be going back again with our kids!

We ate at Ohana in 2007 and really disliked it - we will never go back. We are pretty middle of the road diners. We like Chinese buffets, we liked Prime Time Cafe, we loved Coral Reef, so it's not like we are really picky. Here were my quick review:

1) Seated quickly - this was the only good part of the service.

2) We received part of the appetizers - but had to ask repeatedly for the wings. Rarely saw our server.

3) Chips were way way too salty ( and I like potato chips ! ). Sent them back - but they were inedible.

4) Wings were greasy flabby and badly cooked. Sauce was yummy.

5) Salad was good ( whne it FINALLY arrived )

6) Shrimp were OK.

6) Potatoes were good.

7) Turkey was DRY - almost like jerky

8) Steak was good - but only came once - we had to hunt down server who attended constantly to table next to us.

9) Sausage was ghastly - full of gristle and odd bits.

10) Tenderloin was very smokey - but good.

11) Dessert was too rich after the meat - but it was yummy.

For the proce - we won't return. Iactually thought the food at Cap'n Cooks was beeter and fresher than Ohana.

We were at the Poly this past weekend and Ohana dinner was sold out Friday night all the way through the month of Sept....we tried to get in one night when it was pouring so hard out that we didnt want to mess around at Epcot.

We have dined there for breakfast and dinner and both are fantastic! If you cannot get in at Ohana try the Grand Floridian Cafe, this place is to die for amazing!

We ate at Ohana for the first time on our recent trip (we were there 8/8) and it was our favorite meal of the trip!

That banana bread pudding dessert is TO DIE FOR!!!

I wasn't as impressed with the coconut bread (I think previous fabulous reviews built it up too much for me)...it was okay but nothing I would "crave".

The meats were fantastic, as were the noodles, dumplings, and salad. The broccoli was...well...broccoli.

We would definitely go again!
