Oh, WOW...I had the best morning.

Sometimes, it's just who you know.

My friend's dad owns a store and lock company...you know the big buildings where people put the stuff they can't fit in their houses anymore? Anyway, if people fail to pay their rental fees for a contracted amount of time, everything in the storage space becomes his property. Last weekend that happened to one of his rentals.

He opened it up and found LOTS of photography stuff and called to see if I wanted to root through it before he took it to the dump!!!
Uh...hello....YES!!!!

I got some old hot lights that I'll most likely throw away. But I also got 2 large umbrellas, 2 light stands, a backdrop, and about 15 of those heavy-duty wooden boxes that you have people stand/sit on in group portraits. There were also 2 children's wicker chairs that need to be painted and a punching bag. I'm picturing a toddler in shiny shorts with boxing gloves.

So now my family room is as full as it was on Christmas day and I'm just as happy. Now I need someone with a toddler to book a shoot.

WOW! That's awesome luck and just goes to show you that it pays to know people.

I sometimes look around flea markets and garage sales hoping someone has tossed an old lens into the pile for like $25, only to discover it's something I'd pay a few hundred for used online---but so far, no luck for me.

Woohoo Amy!!! There are sometimes auctions around here for those storage units whose rent goes unpaid. The storage company will open the units up in the morning for people to get an idea of what is in them and then you bid on the entire contents of the unit. You must take it all and dispose of what you dont want .... you got a way better deal ... take only what you want and cost $0 Have fun with your newly acquired goodies!! I'm sure you will find a toddler soon to have fun with that punching bag.
