I have read so much about the fried green tomato sandwich, the monte cristo and the begniets(?). All of these I am dying to try on our trip in October. Does anyone know whether or not I can get these at counter service or do I have to go sit down? Just not sure that I was to schedule myself. I was looking forward to letting the kids lead the way and DH and I follow. Who wants to stop when the fun is just getting started??

Of the food items you mentioned, only the Monte Cristo is available via sit-down only.

You might try, if you really want the fried items, to bring a cell phone. Call Disney dining reservations an hour out and see if they have a spot for you. It might work for you.

The beignets are available at the Mint Julep Bar (counter-service) as well as at Cafe Orleans (sit-down) which also is one of the two places that serve the Monte Cristo (the other is the Blue Bayou, which may or may not be open depending on when you scheduled your trip for). The beignets at CO are served with a vanilla bean creme anglaise and raspberry coulis, whereas the ones at the MJB are not. For some people it makes a difference, for others it doesn't. The fried green tomato sandwich is offered at the Hungry Bear Restaurant which is also counter-service.
