oh no, we got bumped

i was ready to cry when my sm called me up to tell me we were bumped from the french island upper for our illuminations dessert party after our wedding reception by a large convention. i am so disappointed & now we have to pick another dp location and my fi doesnt like our other dp options. i know its not the end of the world but its certainly a sad moment & bump (literally) in our plans.

What a bummer! I'm sure whatever else you decide will end up being just as magical, though. How large is your party? I've heard of private parties at the GF for a Wishes DP, and I don't think a lot of people know about it. Maybe that could be another alternative for you guys. I also wonder if they'd do something like that on the beach of the Poly for Wishes. How romantic would that be?!

thanks for the support ladies. after discussing the very limited idp venues uk upper & lower for our size group, i picked uk lower since its on the water, my fi had no opinion as he is still too annoyed , like me but i wanted to make sure we it least had a venue as the illuminations dp is the icing on the cake to our wedding event.

our sm said this doesnt happen often especially midweek but it can with conventions as they take priority so know i just have to pray that all our other wedding details come together as planned/hoped.

PD, it is sooooo sad for you. I am sure all of the details will work for the best. UK lower deck is a nice place. I have watched "Next to that area" it is a great view...

Will WDW give you any appeasement for bumping you???

I think you should ask for a place bigger than for "your size" of party. Esp if it has a nicer view of Illuminations. Remember, they put you out, you didn't change your mind.

uk lower & upper were the only large enough spaces available. french island upper (where we were confirmed) french island lower, arm, italy isola & west wing were all booked by the convention that booted us.

as for compensation i asked the same question to my em who said she would look into it.

Just an fyi that conventions seem to always take priority for locations - even receptions, which is why DFTW works on a different timeframe than other wedding locations. You have plenty of time to change your mind on the party if you want.

I love UK lower and believe that it's one of the best locations!

oh we had our DP at the UK lower terrace. it's a great spot for illuminations. you're going to love it. very private and intimate. just perfect.

I’m so sorry you got bumped! I don’t think it happens very often, but when it does it’s a major bummer! Don’t worry though. The UK Lower is a lovely location for your dessert party. I’ve actually attended a dessert party on the UK Lower, and it was a great spot to see Illuminations.

I wish I hadn't read this as now I am concerned that we might get bumped from our Illuminations site (French Lower). I just found out today that our wedding day is the same date as the Disney Marathon. I can just see them holding some event at Illuminations that night & that being it for our dessert party location. Had you already signed the contract when you were bumped? I am assuming there is a clause that allows them to do this, correct?

bessjlj - conventions do take priority per my em. we had signed our contract which after reviewing more closely another time around did have a clause about the dessert party. hopefully you shouldnt have a problem or disney will offer to move you to another location, we were fortunate to get uk it least. as for compensation there is none.

OK first off UK Lower will be fabulous - I know it won't be the same sweetie - but like you said it's still on the water and I think our wedding parties were about the same size - we had nearly 50 for the dessert party. Anyway I just wanted to reassure you about the location.

From what I remember though when you picked this location didn't you post here saying that your SM had mentioned because you were a smaller group than they would usually allow for the French Island Upper you may get bumped? Of course I could have imagined that - I know that it doesn't help being prepared for the bump against the reality of it.

Honestly I know I told you this when you were deciding having been to Dessert Parties in all but Italy Isola I would have to say that UK Lower would be my preference over French Upper anyways - and when we were at the UK lower we had more than enough room - but I know you had your heart set on Frenh Upper - I'm just trying to make you feel better

We had the UK Upper for my sister's dessert party and there was another wedding using the UK Lower. I can honestly say either one would be fabulous. They both had privacy, and amazing views.
