Yikes! We are due to check in Monday for our first tent camping at FW. I have all the supplies in the living room. I've hyped up dd9. We rewaterproofed tent. Then, i noticed the ac will not connect where I had in mind. There is only one door, not the two I imagined. The flap on the "cool air vent" won't lift to shove window unit close. AND DH saw 91' forecast. He wants to hurry and find hotel. Can I save a FW trip? Should i find a new tent with ac boot instead of canopy I had banned for? Should I follow YouTube instruction for cutting a hole in a perfectly good tent? Can I use air duct pipe to connect a.c. through cool air vent?

Buy a new tent. Or see if you can rent a trailer for your budget. There are places that deliver trailers to FW.

Or given the attitude of your hubby, get a hotel Rez. If he isn't hyped up, you may just end up doing that after the first night. I love FW but wouldn't try to camp in the heat with someone who was against the idea anyway.

(I did it in 98 degree heat with just a fan. Your tent isn't the issue- it's your hubby.)

What type of A/C are you using in a tent? The best type would be a portable unit and then you can put the "vet" out the bottom of the tent. The unit actually goes inside the tent and I beliebe it has a drip pan under it. They are common in NYC and cool smaller spaces pretty well.

Corgidad, we have just a regular tent site booked. Planned on using electric/battery fans and having a.c. available as back up in case whining began. We love our coleman tent now and wanted canopy for extra shade in the kitchen. At this point though, I'm considering a "sleeping" tent that has instant ac connection. We will be at the parks all day except Saturday which was going to be camping/pool day.

Wiikeliza, we have a window unit. I have seen portable units like you describe but the are much more expensive here. New tent is cheaper. Plus hard to beat free ac.

Your set up makes sense then. I'd cut the hole if it becomes absolutely necessary. Then you may or may not be out of the money. And fans (as well as evening showers) go a long way in helping.

But I'd have a back up plan for the pool/campground day. That's not actually much fun between the hours of 11 am and 5 pm on the hot days. so maybe be prepared bribe the whiners with Disney springs or resort hopping. I am a hard core pool and campground addict and ended up spending my "pool days" riding the bus around in circles or lounging on the bathroom benches. Met a lot of interesting folks on the plus side.

Take a fan and stake out your tent well for ventilation. When we were there the first of April, it got around 92-96 for a few days and by proper ventilation and using the fan, we actually ended up sleeping under our covers! Now we didn't linger around our campsite in the middle of the day bc it was just too warm, but if nights are what your mostly concerned about you should be fine with proper setup.

That being said, I won't lie that I had a mini-meltdown the first night we came back and hadn't properly ventilated the tent! lol It was hot, I was hot, and everyone was miserable. I was begging for a hotel with our two kiddos. A quick trip for a cool shower and within 20 min. DH had the place cooled down and everyone was fine. BUT, if you think its going to be too much of a problem, having a back up hotel in mind would likely be a good idea. You can get some in Kissimmee for as cheap as $40ish a night that would be a good place to go and cool down if you got too miserable!

No comparison between first of April and June. 92*-96* in April is bad enough with the lower humidity. The same temps in June with higher humidity are a 'killer'!!

OP, you 'will' need AC - day & night!! Your vacation will not be much fun if you're miserable from the heat.

So, I can buy a tent with a built in ac port for less than the acboot but more than the extra canopy i had planned on buying. What are the odds of a nice person showing me how to hang my tarp over the picnic table for shade? Any experience with Bushnell tents, that's the one with the a.c. port that's available here? Thanks so much for the help! I know the whole family will love this trip. They just have to get over the fear. We're glamping after all. It will be fine.:love1:

I've never been to the fort but if there are trees near the picknic table just tie it to those at the heigh you want.
