Oh NO!!! The Weather!?!?

If not for WDW (and the rest of the tourist stuff that followed in its wake), central Florida would have nothing going for it. There would have been no reason in the world to ever go there. It is one big swamp. Who goes to a swamp as a resort (i mean before WDW was built there).

Florida, other than the coastlines, is also one of the ugliest states in the union. And since central florida, last time I looked, doesn't have a coast, it would have continued to live in total anonymity, if Walt hadn't bought up the land for chump change.

Swampland. That's where you're headed.

Wildlife, wildlife and more wildlife BD (Before Disney) thats what Florida had / has to offer. Thousands pay good money to go on trips to the everglades just to see the swamp.

Who defines ugly? I find nature, whatever form it takes, beautiful. I know many people who find Disney and their like an abhorance in their destruction of nature.

Then there are those who visit the keys because of Hemingway and Bogart.

arrived back Sunday, we have had 3 weeks in Orlando, the first 2 weeks were very wet, apparantly we had a months rain in 3 days! the last week has been approx 94 with 100% humidty and huge thunderstorms in the afternoon, but it only rains for about an hour.

We found it much easier to do the parks in the 1st 2 weeks, it may have been a bit wet, but it was lovely and warm, and we wore our ponchos when we needed to, it never stopped us, even when Hurricaine Arlene hit in the middle of our holiday, which wasn't much either, It thundered and rained hard for about an our, got a bit windy, then it was ok again.

the 3rd week we found really hard going, we found we only wanted to go to the parks in the late afternoon when it had cooled down a bit!

I think there's definitely something in the 'increasingly unpredictable' nature of Florida's weather in recent years, and not just last year's hurricane season. I am currently sitting looking out at steady drizzle (in mid-June ), with temperatures of 71F and no need for the a/c on! There has been a ridiculous amount of rain so far this month, and the forecast is for a LOT more rain in the next week or so, I'm afraid. It is certainly not the usual pattern of one, fierce-but-brief afternoon storm and then business as usual; this is downright unpleasant this week and there is not even some decent warmth to go with it! The local weather forecasts are also pretty hopeless as no-one forecast such a wet, cold drizzly day today. It was OK this morning (went for a cycle ride round Fort Wilderness before the rain set in), and it is supposed to be warmer tomorrow (and in the 90s agin this weekend), but I do feel sorry for anyone arriving this week. Hopefully we will get back to more normal weather soon but it looks like we will have to put up with some more unseasonal stuff first

to be perfectly honest, and at the risk of being stoned on this board, if given the choice, i'd prefer the cold wet weather to daily doses of sunstroke...

Hi, I'm in the magical world right now and to be honest it is pretty wet. We've been here since thursday and up until today the rain's held off til the lunchtime storms but today's been unusually bad. It's quite useless looking at weather maps and forecasts in advance and in fact while you're here. They're stupidly vague- sunny spells, thunderstorms, rain, hot oh and a bit cold is the forecast!!!! Also, they change so much i really wouldn't plan you're day by them.

Aim for the parks early morning and then go back later and the weather won't bother u that much. Of course the opposite applies if you like the wet and slightly colder orlando

We are visiting twice this year, in March the weather was cold and wet - when it rained it was almost like the weather here, grey skies and rained all day, first time we have ever seen it like this in Florida - not like the quick thunder storms.
The weather is definitely getting more and more unpredicatable and Simon is right too the forecasts are not to be trusted and we shouldn't read too much into them.

Hopefully August will be nice and sunny.

Today is another case in point, some sun (and cloud) this morning, with temperatures pushing up to around 88F by mid-day (and actually seeming rather hotter). But, by 1pm the first showers are visible over Disney (and in a few other places), while, by 2pm, there is a big storm front rolling in from the west - right across Disney. Again, I feel sorry for anyone trying to get a full day at the parks. If they made the 9pm start, they got easily the best of the weather; now it looks very mixed for the rest of the day. Tomorrow's forecast? More of the same....

I think it was last year that the weather was a bit weird. It was as hot as usual (frying egg on the sidewalk heat), but the rain was far more unpredictable. There were several mornings with rain (though no lightening that i can remember) and some afternoons without anything.

But it wasn't a problem one way or the other.
