I just saw on the weather channel that Buffalo is going to get hit by snow, We are due to leave home (Hamilton) at 11:30 on Tuesday and then go to the hotel and fly out Wednesday AM, weather.com says this
NORTHERN ERIE-GENESEE-WYOMING-SOUTHERN ERIE- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF... BUFFALO...BATAVIA...WARSAW... ORCHARD PARK...SPRINGVILLE 1037 PM EST SUN DEC 3 2006
...SIGNIFICANT LAKE EFFECT SNOW POSSIBLE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY...

THE FIRST EXTENDED COLD PERIOD OF THE WINTER SEASON WILL BRING WITH IT THE THREAT OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW FROM TIME TO TIME THIS WEEK. MOST OF THE ACTIVITY WILL BE SCATTERED AND INTERMITTENT ENOUGH TO LIMIT ANY APPRECIABLE ACCUMULATIONS...BUT THERE WILL BE A PERIOD FROM LATER MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY WHICH MAY BE OF MORE CONCERN.

A WESTERLY FLOW OF COLD AIR WILL DEEPEN MONDAY AND SET UP A BAND LAKE EFFECT SNOW ACROSS SOUTHERN ERIE AND WYOMING COUNTIES. WINDS WILL BACK MORE SOUTHWESTERLY LATE MONDAY NIGHT AND PUSH THIS BAND NORTH INTO CENTRAL ERIE AND GENESEE COUNTIES...PERHAPS AS FAR NORTH AS BUFFALO AND BATAVIA TOWARD DAYBREAK TUESDAY.

THERE IS CONFLICTING MODEL GUIDANCE AS TO THE WIND DIRECTION ON TUESDAY. IF THE WINDS REMAIN MORE SOUTHWESTERLY... THE STEADIER LAKE SNOWS COULD AFFECT AREAS FROM BUFFALO TO THE SOUTH TOWNS AND EAST INTO GENESEE AND WYOMING COUNTIES...BUT THERE IS AT LEAST A LOW RISK OF SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW FOR THE TUESDAY MORNING COMMUTE.

YOUR NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS EVOLVING SCENARIO AND ISSUE STATEMENTS AS NECESSARY.

Now here is some thoughts, please given me your opinions!
1) We can leave at about 12:30 or 1 on Monday and then spend an extra night in Buffalo (they have room I just checked) so that we don't have to arrive in the thick of the storm it will cost about $130 more but it would be ok, we can do it
2) See if SWA can fly us out ahead of the storm say the PM N/S flight either the 4th of the 5th, my parents are meeting us down there and we can crash at their condo for the night(s) for free if need be, would SWA charge us for this or because of the storm are they accommodating??
3) Tough it out and wait it out but GET SNOW TIRES lol

I am really trying to make the best of this, these things happen but I just need a plan what to do!

HELP PLEASE!

I should say too it looks to be about 8 inches, so not really a little dusting!

Hi Mousy. YUCK! We're flying out early Saturday morning, so hopefully they don't get a dumping like they did in October. :scared1: Check flight availability on-line and see if there's "room" on a flight. And then call SWA and ask if they could change your ressie because of the weather, so that you're not paying anything extra. If you can go a day early and just crash at your parents, that's probably a good idea. :goodvibes Keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out for all of us heading down over the next 2 weeks.

Good Luck! Oh, and I found my LGMH that has my name on it -- it will be attached to my little black knapsack-type bag, so watch for me. :thumbsup2

Hi from the Buffalo area!!!

With the lake snow, it is entirely possible the airport will get NONE. The new update has the snow estimate to be from 6 pm tonight to 9 am Tuesday. The first band is expected to move North, which could snow on the airport, then the second band will be South, which should not affect it. We live due east of the airport and are expecting to get minimal snow here at our house.

If you are planning on driving down during that time (tonight til tomorrow, mid-morning) you may encounter a problem. But I am expecting the airport will probably get snowed on tonight, if at all, and then have the runways cleared by tomorrow morning. Wednesday should not be affected at all.

Don't worry! As long as it is just snow, you will get out fine, possibly slight delays for de-ice or runway clearing. This storm does not seem like it is expected to have significant winds, which is what cancels flights here. Just 20 inches of snow??? No problems! :thumbsup2

I'll send out some "no snow at the airport at all" vibes for you. :goodvibes

My friend is flying out of Buffalo Christmas Eve. Is there a good web site she can monitor before she leaves to find out weather for Buffalo?
Thanks.

We decided to come a day early, there is really not as much snow as I thought but WOW this hotel is SOOOO nice! We are at the Homewood suites and I would 100% come back here. The food is excellent the pool is nice and they bumped us to a 2 bedroom suite!
I would recommend it to anyone coming this way (by the look of that poll it is most of us!)
