My DS 5 woke up this morning with a headache and his feet hurting. By 9am the fever was coming on:sad1: , so I gave him Motrin. He looks so pale this afternoon and is complaining he is cold. I will give it to Friday then call the Dr. to get him in, or should I do it sooner? Sometimes I take them to the Dr too early and they can't find anything wrong with them. We Leave on Wed. morning.

I have been giving my DD13 a hard time about going out in this cold and ice, because I didn't want her to get sick, I was telling her she will sit in the room the whole trip if she gets sick, and now my son was the one who got sick. He doesn't go to school and is not around other kids often, so I hope this is something that will pass quickly.
The last time we flew he was sick had a lot of fluid build up behind the ears a week before we left, we gave him all his meds for a week and he vomit all the way to Disney, the whole 2 1/2 hrs on the plane plus 2 hr delay on run way. We don't know if it had to do with being sick the week before or what. He was fine that after we got to Disney. But now here we are again a week before and he is sick.
I swear if he vomits this time on the plane the kid will never get on another one again. It took him 2 yrs. to get over the fact of how sick he got on the plane, we really had to coach him to relax about this up coming plane trip.

Thanks for listening.

I would take him to the DR. about 36 hours after the first symptom showed up. I know sometimes it takes awhile for strep and other tests to show up. They can also test for the flu. I would be proactive since you are leaving in a week. That's plenty of time to get him better. Most things don't last that long and kids bounce back pretty easy. Lots of rest, OJ and ginger ale or maybe some kids Airborn. That always seems to work for DS 6.:thumbsup2

Ditto on the Airborne. I used it for the 1st time this year. I mixed it in with their juice and it was not to bad. I'm not sure how often you are supposed to take it but I gave it to my kids 2- 3 x a day for 3 days before we left and while on the plane there and back. it seemed to work for us.

I would have him checked for the flu as soon as you can. If he is positive and you catch it within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms, he can have Tamiflu, and so can the rest of your family. Both my girls tested positive for flu two weeks ago despite both having a flu shot. DD7 had a headache, and DD4 said her neck hurt. Both had fever. We all went on Tamiflu, and the girls only had fever for a day (I took them each to the doctor the first day they had fever). DD7 probably caught the flu from DD4, but she had been on Tamiflu for two days by the time she tested positive. DH and I also took Tamiflu and did not get sick. Our preschool director's son tested positive for flu, but it was after the 48 hour window. He had a fever for five days and missed a week of school.

Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Yea, I think I am going to call the Dr in the morning. His fever tonight went to 102.9 he just looks so pale and cold, now he is getting a cough. Last time when he got sick the week before we left my DD got sick in Disney and spent the last 4 days of her vacation in bed. I hope it doesn't happen again. And you know all this happen the same month 2 yrs ago the first week of March we went to Disney and had my DS sick before we left and here we are again
2 yrs later living through it again. I just want to scream!

I feel your pain. Literally.

We are leaving THIS Thursday...yes, in only one day. DS 4 has had a fever since Mon. morning & I really hoped it would just go away! It's not like him to get sick - rarely does. I decided to play it safe & take him to the dr. today & also made an appointment for DD 18 mos. No ear infection, which was my guess. Hooray! Then, the dr. suggests a strep test & flu test for both of them. After waiting on the test results, she says they are BOTH positive for BOTH strep & flu. Are you serious? These kids NEVER get sick. We are leaving THIS Thursday. So, each one got a shot & Tamiflu. I decided to take myself to urgent care just to be sure b/c I thought I had some bad allergies that medicine wasn't helping. Nope. Strep for me plus an ear infection.

So, here we are $189 later b/c that Tamiflu stuff is expensive! I am praying that tomorrow (Wed.) will be the day of miraculous healing b/c I don't want anyone to be sick at Disney!!!

Hope your family gets over it by your trip as well! This is definitely going to make for an interesting trip for us.

We are in NC as well, and flu and strep are both rampant this year! There have been several kids at both of DD's schools who tested positive for both. Luckily, I guess, we just had flu. The Tamiflu did seem to help shorten the intensity and duration. Best of luck to you in getting healthy fast!

This has been the worst month I have ever seen for sickness. Just this month, our family has seen ear infections, strep, flu, and that terrible stomach bug. I am hoping it will be a new start when we return from Florida. I'm so tired of sickness!

Please bring some healthy air back with you from Florida! We started with the stomach bug on the Disney Cruise in January (no fun!), and we have done the colds and flu since then. If I ever get my whole family healthy at the same time, we're going to have a party!

Have a great trip!

I called the Dr and they don't want to see him:confused3
They said since it is just fever then it viral. IMHO they should check him then decide it's viral.
He has been running a fever 104 since last night, Motrin does bring the fever down, if he is not any better by tomorrow morning I am telling them they have to see him.
He had me so scared last night, he got up and look at me like he didn't know me, he had such a scared look on his face. just starring at me and his da with a confused look it went on for about 10 mins before he responded to my voice. My DH is saying the fever is doing it.

At least he is resting now, after a long night. He still counting the days until we leave so being sick isn't stopping him about thinking of Disney.

Thank You for all for your input.:)

Do you have an urgent care that you can take him to? I took DH to MEDAC (urgent care) for fever, and it was not the flu, but both my girls had fever first and then other symptoms later. Not sure how widespread flui s in NJ right now, but in NC, they are recommending that anyone with flu like symptoms see a doctor - too much stuff going around!

Best of luck to you!

That wasn't very nice of your doctor! Right now flu is very spotty in NJ (I work in an ER in NW NJ) But we have been seeing a ton of kids with fever (viral illness or upper resp infection) Lots of strep too in the teen population(count my kid in there too!! ) If your doc. won't see him go to an urgent care or ER if you are concerned. I'm sure either way he will be better by your trip, just keep him away from your DD!!! And wash your hands till they bleed! I do! :lmao:

Can you just tell them you think he has an ear infection?? That is usually what I say (usually b/c that's what I think he has!) and they always make an appointment for me. It is def. not normal to keep a fever that long. And, btw, my son had a fever & ended up w/ the flu (and also strep, so maybe that caused the fever??) I would be very insistent. Good luck!!!!
