Oh no! I'm worried!! HELP!!!! **UPDATE**

Got a call from my CC company's fraud protection department this morning about activity on my card. The guy asked about three different charges from offers I've done. I was stunned and said I thought everything was okay. Now I'm really worried and am afraid I said the wrong thing. I checked and I have cancellation confirmation for two of the three. The third one is from the very first offer I did at SR months ago (MusicNow) and I'm afraid to say I wasn't keeping good records then. Do you think these were just pending charges and I should just give it time for it all to get worked out? Or should I do something?

My husband is going to have a cow!!!! :scared1:
 
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most of us here have rec'd that call from the credit card company. Since you do the offers there are a whole bunch of small amounts on your card and they just call to verify that it is you making the charges and not someone else.

I rec'd a call earlier this week wanting to verify some charges on my card two were for small amounts and the other one was from my grocery store. I just explained to her that yes it was me and that all the small offers are okay and they are from the reward sites I do.
 
Thanks for your reassuring reply! :) I guess what concerns me is that all of these should have been "free" trials....no activation fee, no shipping, etc. ....so I'm afraid that they are trying to charge me a monthly membership charge for something I cancelled. But I'm wondering if they are just pending charges and that customer service just hasn't let billing know yet that I've cancelled and maybe it's just going to take some time for it to all get processed.

Oh well....I guess I will just wait and see what happens.
 
Last night my husband came home from the store and said our credit card was turned down. ("Oh no!," I thought!) So he checked our statement online and, sure enough, there were TONS of charges to our card that we didn't make. He called our CC company and we've shut down the account and they're going to investigate. :mad:

The fishy thing is that many of the charges were to "offer" sites. For example....Passport to Fun and Gamefly....two offers I did MONTHS ago and cancelled! Also, charges for offers I have NEVER done, like Advantage Language, Gottaplay, Netflix. There were many, many charges for Blockbuster...just within the last couple days. (I checked and they did NOT use my Blockbuster account! Phew!!!) This really disturbs me though....I hate to think that being on these rewards sites makes us prey for jerks like this. And also that someone has obviously been following my every move on the computer. :scared1: Actually, I keep picturing some nerdy kid on Spring Break sitting at his computer with nothing better to do than go for an internet joyride at someone else's expense!

Oh, and get this....just to make "us all" look good and charges to look legit....this "person" also made a very generous contribution to a well-known charity organization with our card!!

On a lighter note....my husband did not have a cow like I thought he would. He just said "It happens!" I thought he would say he didn't want me to do the rewards sites anymore, but he actually suggested that I get my own credit card just for doing rewards offers and just put a really low limit on it. I guess he was actually listening when I told him my SR balance! :rotfl2: I still think I will be laying off the CC offers for a while.

Well, sorry this is so long, and I know you all are very careful, but I just wanted to remind everyone to check those CC statements carefully!!!

Wow!! Sorry to hear what has been going on !! Sounds like you have a wonderful, understanding DH!! :) I know my Citi card offers a virtual account number that you can set a limit on for each "purchase." I have been a bit gunshy after spending a month trying to get a $13.95 charge reversed and I can't imagein what you are going through!! I hope this all gets straightened out for you soon :)

And now another chapter....Our mail lady just dropped off a whole bin of packages (looks like books) from Rodale (???). Nothing I ever ordered! Looks like our "culprit" decided to send ME some stuff too!!! :mad:

Did you talk to Tricia about this. This person may be doing these offers and getting credit for them and end up receiving cash credit for these before the cc gets everything reversed and this may somehow come back on her too.

You know, you're right. I will. I've been going back and forth all morning whether or not I needed to and then it hit me that someone is getting credited for these purchases and offers too. Not sure what Tricia can do about it, but I would feel bad if it caused her to lose money too.

I don't think it's all being done through Sunshine though because I know some of the offers aren't on that site and I just recognize from "browzing" on other rewards sites even though I'm not active on them like I am on Sunshine.

Oh, no!! How terrible!! Is there a chance that you have any kind of spyware on your computer where they might have recorded your information? Like a toolbar or a download of some kind?
 
That's terrible!

I've been tossing the idea around, but this makes me want to take the extra step of picking up a prepaid Visa or MC. I know a few grocery stores sell them in varying increments and you can reload them. That might be a safer way to do these offers - then at worst you're out $25-50 instead of your entire credit limit.
