A TRUMPET!

DH is a music education major and this semester he is taking a brass class in which he has to learn how to play brass instruments. The first thing he brought home was a trumpet...he'll have it for 3 weeks and then he gets to bring home a new instrument. DH is a percussionist...so his trumpet playing skills aren't very good yet! LOL!! And the dogs hate it....they both went hide when DH started playing with it yesterday! LOL!!

To my dear DH if he reads this...
I'm sure you'll be the best trumpet player ever! :p

LOL...can't wait for the tuba!

I feel for you! Just about the time he gets the hang of it they'll give him a different one! Better buy ear plugs!

As the father of a trumpet student, I know what you are going through.
Now an 8 year student & a HS senior, he's starting to sound right good!
His brother plays a mean claranet (hi Gus) when he's not posting on some message board. LOL

I am the mother of a trumpet student who is now starting his third year playing. It's not so bad anymore, but at first it was not so good.
He practices downstairs and for a while there I would hae sworn he was torturing a baby moose in my basement!;)

If your trumpet student has a mute in his case, encourage him to use it. If not, they are REAL cheap ones at your local music store.
Like a muffler for your car.
Just a thought.

LOL! :D

I hope for your sake that he is a quick study! :p

As the Mom of 2 violists I feel for you but can't quite reach you. Actually the older one is really darn good. Younger one is getting there.

Bad move. I play trumpet, and you need to be able to hear the note before playing it. For example, I know the difference between a G and a C. But if I have a mute in, I don't.

No no on the mute

You'll see, I will be the best trumpeter in the world. Doc Severnson here I come. Belive it or not, Skuttle is in class right now and I'm trumpeting while on the DIS. I'll serenade her when she gets home tonight.

Truthfully though I SUCK!!!! But I will rock in three weeks. then its off to the french horn. I don't thing there is anything french about the french horn. its sorta like an english muffin. nothin english about it.

it only gets worse....wait till i take woodwinds class...then strings... its all downhill from here.

cool deal

Ahhh the woodwinds class...that should be fun! ;)

Speaking as a clarinet player for 16 years there is nothing much worse that someone learning how to "squack" on a woodwind like a clarinet or oboe! :earseek:

LOL!!! Poor Skuttle! :teeth: When does the trombone come home? :teeth:

You go Diz-Knee-Whirl! You already rock having the courage to take on the whole orchestra the way you are!! Good luck to you! Sounds like you're having a lot of fun along the way! :)

Oh becka...I know what you mean! I played flute and that high pitch screeching is awful! LOL!! Plus, DH already says he can't get a sound out on woodwinds!

Thanks for the sympathy!

Sorry to hear that... my brother and I both played trumpet so I can feel for you. Just be glad that it isn't a French Horn... those are apparently the hardest brass to play (I have to agree... I played tons of brass) and honestly they sound like a dying cow when you start. I'd send you some earplugs though if I had any :teeth:

Elaine: He'll actually bring home the french horn later in the semester. *sigh*

i sound like a donkey with a toothache right now. Give me a few days, I'll be a trumpet ninja.

We get 3 weeks on each of the brass instruments. Trumpet, French horn, euphonium, trombone, and not much time on tuba. It will be a great semester.

Actually it'll be a great year, Skuttle is in her last year of law school (so she'll be stressing). And i get to ease her stress by practussing on brass instruments in the fall and woodwinds in the spring. She'll love me for that for sure.

Maybe one day if I keep on practicing i can be in the Main Street Philharminics! (had to make a disney reference since this is a disney board)
