I was waiting for Southwest rates to drop and now Delta went up from $236 to $340 Hartford to Orlando!! Now I am nervous that I blew it!

How low will Southwest go from Hartford to Orlando?? Do you think Delta will drop their rates again?

Thanks for any advice!

You don't say when you're traveling, but if its not until July or August, historically, I've found rates tend to drop again late March/early April.

Same boat. I was waiting for Southwest to drop but then found the $59 each way on Airtran so I booked the Airtran. My advice is to book whatever airline you see right away that has low fares for you. I had the Southwest fares snagged the morning they were released at $59 each way but then 3 hours later they tripled in price. So I got burned the 1st time, but not the 2nd time. Good luck to you.

I agree that if you find a good fare, no matter how far out it is, to go ahead a book!! I waited a few extra days for Airtran to see if their fares would go down any for October, and now I have to have a connecting flight on the way home!!! My DH is SO mad at me!!! But, we still got $87 each way, so not too bad. I was tempted to wait also to see if Southwest fares were any better, but I just didn't want to take a chance in that.

We are going the last week in May. We had three tickets that expire by March 8th, which is the last day I could purchase tickets for "whenever". For the tickets I held, my additional costs was $42. I didn't want to 'wait' and not have the fares go down. I had to buy two additional tickets for $328 each just so we could be on the same flight. Oh well. I checked with Farecast and it looked like the price was right.

OP: We flew last July for $59 one way from BDL to TPA (MCO was the same price). I got it on a Ding! fare about 6 weeks before our trip, in mid- April.

I hope the same thing happens this year because as it stands we can't afford to fly! SW for 4 from BDL to MCO is around $1200. Delta is not that much cheaper.

Must cross fingers for DING. I would wait.

Wow! When was Delta $236 from BDL? I'm looking for a June flight, and both Southwest and Delta were around $350 round trip. I hope they go down!

Check again! I don't know what your travel dates are, but I just checked again and my dates in June are down to $249. My problem is that I really don't want to book until next month, because if we have more than two more snow days, I'll have to work later into June and so my travel dates will change. Oh, what to do - should I book it now and risk having to pay for a change later, or wait to book and risk paying more if fares go back up??

We were waiting for Southwest to expand their reservation dates into June, due to their fares being some of the lowest. When they did:

The cheapest found from Sacramento, California, was on average $425 apiece, round trip. The cheaper "Internet Specials" ($169 each way) were all blocked out.

Delta wanted $396 apiece two weeks ago, but upon checking a couple days ago I got what I wanted for $288 apiece (red eye to get to WDW in the morning and a late evening flight home - to maximize our four night stay). Could have picked a pair up for $224 (round trip) apiece! That's CHEAP, but we would have to be at the airport for our return trip at 0600 hours.

I expected to see a drop since oil prices declined down to $50 a barrel (from $75), but was pleasantly surprised it happened so soon. I am sure Southwest will drop their prices soon enough (airfare wars - gotta love it!).

The $288 was cheaper than what we ended up with last year ($333 apiece).

Now we are committed! love it. Activated my AAA quote hold (the package) on Tuesday.

Happy hunting!

I was looking at a Delta rt from Kansas City for $98, but can't book yet because I'm not sure of my dates in July.
After seeing this post, I checked again and now it's $238!!!!!!
Ouch.

I thought I could get a better price then $236.00 on SWA. But maybe I was wrong? I am traveling Htfd to Orlando. Delta did drop some of their flights again to 236.00 but they are later in the day flights to Orlando not the 7:30 am one that I wanted, they kept that one at 340.00.
That plane looks like it is getting full. I won't pay 340.00 to fly to Orlando from Htfd!!

I wonder if this flight was full if they would open another for the 7:30 am flight, do they have more then one go in the morning??

I guess I will have to just cross my fingers!

Thanks everyone!!!
