Anyone watch the movie "Parenthood" with Steve Martin? In the movie, he's a husband and father of three and the movie goes through the trials and tribulations of family life. Well, there's one scene in it that seemed to really strike a chord with me. In this scene his wife tells him that she's (unexpectedly) pregnant for the 4th time and he tells his wife that he quit his job. They get into a fight and the scene ends with her telling him to take their son to little league. He turns to her and says, "my whole life is HAVE - TO".

Do you ever feel like that? When I think of an average day, I realize that I do A LOT more things that I HAVE to do and not what I WANT to do. I know.........I'm having a pity party here and I need perspective. This is why I feel sooo guilty. I should feel blessed to have the life I have but for some reason, I can't get that perspective I need. Please don't flame me for this post. If anything, could someone tell me how they get out of slumps like this????? Thanks..........

No flames at all because I think we all feel that way. How to get out of it? Try doing something you want to! Can you steal away for an hour and go window shopping, soak in a hot tub, read a good book, anything that you WANT to do?

Hopefully you come here because you want to and get some joy out of that. What other little things would bring you joy? Think about them and do them when you can.

Hope this helps!

I'm sorry you are in a slump. Things get overwhelming sometimes. :(

I don't know if I can cheer you up, but here goes...

Whenever I get like that, down, like my life is worth nothing, I try to think about my goals, what I am working towards. Not necesarily a grandois, life-changing goal...maybe just a goal of a trip to Disney, or a trip to the park down the street..or sleeping in on Saturday...anything that aleviates some of the pressure.

Or, meet up with some friends...that can do wonders. Don't spend a lot of time alone.

Go for a walk with you favorite music. Or your dog.

Write!

I get like you feel alot. Like now, I am a teacher, but I was on annual contract, and now my principal has told me that he doesn't has a place for me next year. So I will be working in a dept. store, at least over the summer. I will be making much less, and I am not too excited about the work, but I try to look at the positives...I have a job, I won't have to deal with the crazy parenvts anymore, etc. It all lies in how you look at it.

So find something positive, focus on it, and find a way to release some of your anxiety/fear/steam/etc.!
