I was cooking my daughter's their tea last night (chicken)and one of them point blank refused to eat it .
I asked her why not but she wouldn't answer ,until i asked her again and she informed me that she wouldn't be eating it as they have to kill the chicken for us to eat.
She then carried on telling me she wouldn't be eating meat at all from now on because it's cruel.

Ok, all the above wouldn't be so bad apart from the fact she's 7 years old.

The thing is she hates salad, cheese, veg and mostly everything else. What do i feed her now.

I should note that she deosn't get chicken every meal time now.

Where on earth do they get these idear's from at this age. :confused3

Its a difficult one but you could try explaining that the chicken was specially bred just so's it could be ate, it was never anybodys pet. Other than that you just want to make sure her diet will include a lot of protein as that will be what she misses out on by not eating meat. also you could try quorn or other non meat alternatives

OMG! Good luck - I'm sure I have all this to look forward to DD is already a pre-teen at 3!

She also hates chips(not a bad thing)
Potatoes

Going to get her some non meat alternatives and she will eat pasta at a push.

Carol, It might be worth a try explaning that to her but by the gist of how she was talking last night, she understands perfectly about them not being pet's.She just believes that it's wrong that animal's should be killed for us to eat.

I think she's just old before her time

All the family eat meat and though i have no agrument with her if this is what she has decided, i just didn't think we would be going through this so young.

I became a veggie when I was 9! I said the same thing about not wanting to eat animals but in all honesty looking back I think it was just really to get attention! I regret it now as I wish I hadnt become a veggie but its been too long for me to change, I cant stand the texture of meat. Anyway, if you can convince her to change her mind it might be a good idea before it becomes a habit. Otherwise try the Quorn products, they are excellent and very healthy. :)

Thank's Jen

Tbh she's never really liked meat and even if she has it she only eat's a small amount.

I will try to change her mind bu,t then again it's hard because i don't want her thinking i'm not taking her views into account.

I guess i just want someone to tell me if i should try and change her mind or just humor her for the time being and she might decide she likes meat afterall.

I'm hoping that hearing her sister say" yum,yum bacon" a few timeswhile eating a sandwich will change her mind :rotfl:

Remember coming home from school when I was about 10 and telling my mum I wanted to be a vegetarian. She was great and made me all these meat-free dinners. It didn't take me long to realise that I really missed a bacon sandwich or a bag of fruit gums. I realised that I was only doing it because one of my friends was doing the same thing.

My daughter is also 7 and lives on tuna pasta, tuna jacket potatoes...well tuna really. If you're worried, go for bananas and yoghurts. I alos end up giving her sandwiches when she won't eat our dinner as long as its not a sweet filling. Good luck with this,

Both Quorn and Soya are excellent sources of protein. Tuna is ok if she'll eat it, but tinned tuna isn't recommended more than twice a week.

you could try and find some soup that she likes maybe?

i was going to suggest the likes of ravioli with non meat fillings but if she's not keen on pasta.....

I have never really liked meat, hated the texture when I was a kid & if I had felt able to speak my mind as A 7yr old I would have def' become a veggie. Now I am simply too lazy.

Good luck keeping her well fed, especially if she also dislikes so much other food! Perhaps you should point this out to her, if she has a limited diet anyway then perhaps she shouldn't really cut down any more.

I have been a veggie for over 20 years now. I eat a lot of Quorn Products making Spag Bol, Curry, Chilli etc with them :)

Well done you to respect her view's. My parents still offer me meat to eat

My DF has been a vegetarian since he was 14 and a vegan for the last 10 years. Yet everytime we are out for dinner with his mum she tries to get him to order a steak.

Well done on respecting your DDs views and wishes. I'm sure if it is a fade she will grow out of it. If it's not and is a lifestyle choice that she wants to make then she will.

Thanks All :thumbsup2

We had a chat about it tonight and i told her that if it's what she's decided she will have my full support.I also told her if it's what she want's, she's going to have to try eating other things that normally she would refuse to try.

She fully understand's Animal's and the whole meat thing, she just really doesn't agree with them being killed for food.Infact i think she hates the thought.

When did she suddenly grow up :confused3 I'm really proud of her though for making a decision like this.If she's that unhappy about it,she shouldn't be forced into eating it.

I would love some food idears from other veggies out there,if it's not to much trouble :thumbsup2

Have a look at your local supermaket and you will be amazed at how much veggie stuff there is!! Quorn and Linda MCartney (sp??) are the top ranges. You can buy veggie burgers, sauasages, bacon, chicken pieces, mince, chicken breasts, ham, pate and loads more. Is your dd going to be really strict and not eat anything that contains gelatin? If so that makes it much harder as all food packaging needs to be checked as even things like Muller Lights contain it! Personally, I eat stuff that contains it as its too much trouble, if she will eat it then it will make it much easier for you. Once you have tried the Quorn range you might find that all you of you want to eat it which will be easier and it is really healthy. You will find it much harder in Florida to feed her, esp onsite as the veggie range is very limited.

Hi

Its good your supporting your lo. Personally I would speak to her GP and perhaps ask to speak to a Dietician. Being 7 she still needs certain vitamans and minerals that meat has. I am not saying dont support her, but to be on the safe side I would speak to your GP. They may suggest multi vitamans or certain foods that offer you these. Good luck.
