Oh, my! Read this POR review!

Our family spent their first disney vacation at POR - 2-27- to 3-5-05. POR was WONDERFUL!!!! Mousekeeping was awesome. I think our room was recently refurbished as it was immaculate. I htink you will have a wonderful time and that you have made an excellent choice.

I response to Eleanor's post. Maybe the other posts shouldn't have used lied as it is a harse term, but I think that this opinion is SOOOO different from many of use have seen that it might lead a person to believe it to be a lie. I think that every resort has a bad moment as with all of us. None of us are perfect, though I like to think I am sometimes. This person was just one of the unlucky few that didn't like their stay/

Their description of bugs everywhere is very subjective. I live in the midwest where we have a severe asian beetle problem (they look like ladybugs). They infest our homes every fall. My opinion of bugs everywhere might be 10 bugs in a whole house versus yours of 500 bugs.

Just my opinion.

Someone mentioned all rehab was done except for two AB buildings and s/b. What is s/b?

Also, do you know which AB buildings are not done yet and will they be done by 4/21?

Thanks

We have stayed at DixieLandings/Port Orleans Riverside 7 times since 1994.
Twice in Magnolia Bend and the other 5 times in the Bayou area. The trips have been spread out between January(2), February(2), May, October(2). We have never experienced a problem with bugs. Our rooms have always been ready when we arrived - usually somewhere between 11:00am and 1:00pm.
There was only one time that our room seemed to need a little better dusting.
Mousekeeping was always polite when we had contact with them. I can't imagine that the "bad experience" is normal, or I'm sure we would have run into similar problems in all of our stays.

We've stayed at POR twice now and are booked for several nights in June. We have stayed in both MB and AB. We have had several friends stay there on different occasions over the past 2-3 years. None of them have had any bad experiences. In fact, two groups have made changes to future trips in order to stay at POR!!! We have always had our rooms ready when we checked in. And that has usually been about 1:00 or so. The rooms were in fine condition. Mousekeeping was good. As far as the buses go....when we stayed in AB we used the West Depot since it was really close to our bldg. When we stayed in Magnolia Terrace, we usually used the Main bus stop (Mason/Dixon) but there is a bus stop for Magnolia Terrace..right across the parking lot..East Depot. We never had to stand up when we left the resort. But, several times we stood upon leaving the parks at park closing. No big deal.

You will find people that have bad experiences at all the resorts. And usually those with this kind of experience are the ones that will post. Those with good experiences aren't as liable to post except to defend their resort. And no, I'm not saying that anyone is 'lying' about bad rooms....it's all relative. I have had rooms that are just fine with me but my girl friend would find to be sub-par. She is so much more a 'deluxe' girl!!!!

We stayed at POR-ALligator Bayou Thanksgiving week '04 and had a wonderful stay!! NO bugs and very clean!! We're going back to POR-Alligator Bayou for Thanksgiving '05!!

Between the 2 PO resorts, I've stayed there 4 times. I have never had any problems like this OP describes. I would take that review with a grain of salt. I have also only heard positive reviews from other folks here. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

It's just an abbreviation for "should be."

"except two AB buildings now being done and s/b completed shortly"

Reading the disboards is like reading a foreign language!!!LOL!

I just re-read the original post here and realized that at least one part of it cannot be true. As I already said in an earlier post, we did have an ant problem in December 2000 on the second floor of Oak Manor (which in 20 years of visits has been our one and only serious problem and we've visited POR TWICE since then with NOT AN ANT IN SIGHT). The part that cannot be true is that Disney told them that they would "spray". Disney doesn't spray at all anymore - they use heat treatments (and we know this because that is what they did for us and my DD had a great time talking to the guy who visited us twice to do the treatments). Even when we had this problem Disney did everything they could to make it right by doing the heat treatments and offering to move us to another room. We have never had any problems with cleanliness or anything else at any Disney resort and we've been lucky enough to visit more than 20 times (at 5 different Disney resorts). You will love POR - it is an awesome resort and the people there are like a second family. Have a wonderful time!! :earsboy:

I stayed at the POR in Sept of 2003 and it was great, I was in the Oak Manor mansion and I loved my stay there. My room was ready when I checked in at 1:00, and during my stay the room was kept clean and I did not see any bugs.
I would not base my stay on a few over the top negative reports, on any website.
The POR is rated a 4 out of 5 on tripadvisor, and this is out of 138 reviews, the majority being really good reviews, why worry about the few that are negative????

My experience with TripAdvisor is that a small percentage of reviewers will exaggerate how miserable they were and often will not complain to the on-site managers who can fix the problem. For example, I stayed at a terrific small motel in Clearwater Beach that had 9 great reviews and one really bad review. I called the owner/manager and she explained that the reviewer's complaints could have been easily fixed if only she had been told about them.
There are people who are chronic complainers so I would never make a decision based on one or two negative reports.

With regard to POR, we stayed for a week in October 2004 and the AB room and resort were immaculate. With regard to "bugs", we stayed at WL in late August 2003 and the harmless love-bugs were everywhere. The mousekeepers kept up pretty well despite the onslaught, and I noticed them sweeping the lovebugs off the balconies on a daily basis.

We were just there until March 12 in the Mansion and the place was spotless, we spoke with several others guests and they all equally enjoyed the accomodations. Enjoy

 We'll be staying at POR (mansions) for the first time this May and I'm trying to psyche myself up since we've always stayed at WL before. I went to TripAdvisor, just to see if there were any recent reviews and saw this:

We stayed at this hotel in Sept. 2003. My fiance and I went down to disney to celebrate our engagement. We went with another couple. We arrived about 11am, our rooms were not ready until after 5:30pm! My fiance and I could barely open the door to our room. There were so many bugs. It looked like an episode of fear factor. We finally get inside and there are bugs on the wall and in the bed. The bathroom was filthy. The towels had blood on them and fire ants. We went back to check in and asked for another room. We were told that it was bug season. My fiance demanded another room, after all this trip cost $2300. They decided to move us two doors down, where the same problem was. We told them to put us in a second floor room, and so they did. The bus stops were worse, you could not even stand up without bugs attacking you from all ends and there were ants everywhere. The hotel is so rundown and the rooms were dirty. As the days went on we found fire ants in the bed, bugs in our drawers, bugs in our suitcase, and more dirty towels. The front desk told us they could spray our room with bug repellant, but we would have to leave the room and breathe all that junk in for the rest of our stay. My fiance told them we just got engaged, hoping they would try to make this stay better. We did not even get a congratulations. My friends also had trouble too. My friend was sleeping when her bed broke and she fell to the floor. She called housekeeping and they did nothing. She told front desk; again nothing. Her bed stayed broke the entire stay, luckily they had a double bed room and slept on the other bed. At the end of trip we were told to email disney communications with our complaint. They did nothing. I wrote to them and they never even responded. Disney is not the way it used to be, we stayed at this hotel in early 2002 and did not have any problems. The staff used to be friendly and the rooms clean. Think twice before staying here, especially during their bug season.

What the....???? I DID note that even though the review was posted recently, her stay was in 2003. But, would Disney let this happen? I just can't imagine it. Eagerly awaiting reassurance!

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: ;) This is a GOOD one!! LOL. I have stayed in POR mansions many times over the years, and NEVER witnessed/experienced anything even remotely close to what this guest wrote. :confused3 I believe this is 100% fabricated, and the guest either did not stay at POR, or has a tremendous inherent flair for the dramatics (exaggerating things on a regular basis!). LOL....too funny!!

It's also my understanding these mansions were recently renovated, and are beautiful. They were absolutely gorgeous the last time we stayed (in 1996) in Oak Manor. :cloud9:

Please, take such reviews with a grain of salt. Travel to POR...and enjoy your OWN EXPERIENCE!!

All I can say is that if by chance there is any amount of truthfulness to this post, it was a VERY isolated incident. If anyone needs more reassurance about this resort, please feel free to PM me. As you can see from my signature, I have stayed there many times and have never had an experience anything like this. I would be more than happy to answer any questions - just shoot me a PM.

We had a cricket in our room one year at CSR and maintenance was there within an hour at 10:00 p.m. and took care of the problem.

Although this is a very negative review, I don't think it's a lie.

DH and I were in Orlando once during lovebug season and, frankly, it was pretty gross. They were everywhere. I know they are harmless, but it was pretty unbearable anyway. We swore we'd never go in September again for that very reason. This is presumably what the Trip Advisor reviewer was referring to.

As for ants, we had lunch at CRT once, sat at a window table and there were ants crawling all over the window sill and window. It was not very appetizing.

Having said all of the foregoing, we've gone to WDW many times, have stayed at POR-Bayou and have since eaten numerous times at CRT and have never had any other bug problems.

:rotfl2: I needed a good laugh. Couldn't open the door because there were so many bugs, the bed broke and she fell on the floor. This post is absolute crap. The first time I went to WDW I stayed at an absolute dump on 192 that was $23 a night and it didn't have these problems. I think POR is the nicest of all of the Moderates and I've stayed at them all. You'll have a great time!! Put this fictional post out of your mind. If been reading these boards a long time and this is the first post that actually made me laugh out loud.

That review made me nervous. I am staying at POR in June, but since most posters since have had nice things to say about this resort (and in other resort threads) I am going to assume this person was halucinating a bit or something.

I am looking forward to my POR stay. BTW, if I ever walked in to a resort room and could barely open the door because of the bugs, I would turn around and walk right back out!!!!

You should be fine, as May is not "bug season."LOL But if you do encounter a love bug, don't let it bite you. :smooth:
And the rooms have all been recently renovated.
