 We'll be staying at POR (mansions) for the first time this May and I'm trying to psyche myself up since we've always stayed at WL before. I went to TripAdvisor, just to see if there were any recent reviews and saw this:

We stayed at this hotel in Sept. 2003. My fiance and I went down to disney to celebrate our engagement. We went with another couple. We arrived about 11am, our rooms were not ready until after 5:30pm! My fiance and I could barely open the door to our room. There were so many bugs. It looked like an episode of fear factor. We finally get inside and there are bugs on the wall and in the bed. The bathroom was filthy. The towels had blood on them and fire ants. We went back to check in and asked for another room. We were told that it was bug season. My fiance demanded another room, after all this trip cost $2300. They decided to move us two doors down, where the same problem was. We told them to put us in a second floor room, and so they did. The bus stops were worse, you could not even stand up without bugs attacking you from all ends and there were ants everywhere. The hotel is so rundown and the rooms were dirty. As the days went on we found fire ants in the bed, bugs in our drawers, bugs in our suitcase, and more dirty towels. The front desk told us they could spray our room with bug repellant, but we would have to leave the room and breathe all that junk in for the rest of our stay. My fiance told them we just got engaged, hoping they would try to make this stay better. We did not even get a congratulations. My friends also had trouble too. My friend was sleeping when her bed broke and she fell to the floor. She called housekeeping and they did nothing. She told front desk; again nothing. Her bed stayed broke the entire stay, luckily they had a double bed room and slept on the other bed. At the end of trip we were told to email disney communications with our complaint. They did nothing. I wrote to them and they never even responded. Disney is not the way it used to be, we stayed at this hotel in early 2002 and did not have any problems. The staff used to be friendly and the rooms clean. Think twice before staying here, especially during their bug season.

What the....???? I DID note that even though the review was posted recently, her stay was in 2003. But, would Disney let this happen? I just can't imagine it. Eagerly awaiting reassurance!

Hogwash!!!!!!!!

We just got back from POR late Friday night and I can't imagine anything being farther from the truth. We were in AB, but spoke with people in the mansions.

The place is clean and refurbished all around (except two AB buildings now being done and s/b completed shortly). The staff are immaculate and caring and would never leave a guest hanging in the lurch.

I'd recommend you ignore this post and search out more recent (and reliable) reviews hear on the DIS boards.

I'd stay at POR again in a heartbeat!!! I just wish the staff could have done something about the rain! :worship:

About all I can say is "Yeah, right!"

I've never seen a bug, one bug in any Disney resort I've stayed in. Well except for what may fly in at night when we all try to rush in before any bugs can get in :rotfl:

I don't believe it. Sounds like someone didn't have a good time and is trying to get others not to go to Disney to me.

I think it's a little too much to believe, I would have to guess someone wanting some free comps.

The ant problem has been taken care of. We had an awful experience with ants in 2000 - they were everywhere in our room including the drawers and beds and on all the benches and chairs outside as well. I'm very glad to report that we had a great stay in August of 2004 and that the ants are gone! We love POR and have stayed there many times - it is our favorite resort (with the possible exception of GF but it's so expensive). You will have a wonderful time there! :earsboy:

Since it was a September stay, I'm sure the "bugs" that they saw were Love Bugs. They must have been there right at the peak of the fall spawn. If someone left the door of the room open for a long time; they would probably have gone inside. Love Bugs are totally harmless, but some people freak out about their presence anyway.

I think this was a very over-exaggerated story by somebody who obviously feels no guilt about lying.

We were there in October 2003 and didn't see anything like that at POR. The room was spotless and comfortable. The CMs we encountered were friendly and helpful.

We also thought the hotel grounds, including the bus stops were well maintained.

Hope you have a great vacation - I think you'll love POR! As you can see from my photos (click on my user name and then homepage), you won't see any bugs chasing us around! ::MinnieMo

We didn't see one bug while at POR. Also, our room was kept spotless. We received clean towels every day. When I left a request for more towels, cups or whatever, mousekeeping took care of it. When we requested extra sheets for the trundle or more towels they delivered them immediately. The rooms have been refurbished and it is a great resort.

We also went to POR in 2003 and it ws just before they closed to redecorate the rooms. It was a disaster. Our rooms were made up late everyday and the sinks were not to clean etc. On check in the Cm were rude and we didnt get our room until nearly 5:00 oclock. What made it so surprising was that we had stayed at POR several times and loved it. I understand that it is back to normal now.

I think the complaint is a big fat lie! I can believe that some people wil have a complaint about this or that, but those complaints just seem so far fetched. It one major complaint after another and I just don't believe it. We'll still be staying at POR for our next visit.

I'm going back to my "positive thinking" mode and remembering all the POSITIVE reports about POR...I just read on the Codes sub-board that someone actually prefers POR to WL!
Thanks for the opinions!

Karla B. :sunny:

p.s. mybgirl: No, I didn't write the review! It was one I just came across on TripAdvisor.com.

Whoa! I must have passed over your post when I first read through this thread. So, you had a somewhat--but not quite so over-the-top--experience in 2003? Yes, it does sound like NOW things are great there...but, I'm surprised they would let guests book rooms there if it had gotten so bad!

Oh, well! Just glad that it seems to have been in the past!

I don't believe it. We have stayed there twice and have never seen this. The only problem we had was that the pipes would make a horrible noise when you turned the shower on and after a few seconds it would go away. I think this is one of Disneys best resorts so don't worry.

I absolutely do not believe this. Not at Disney! I have checked out Epinions a few times and found it full of complainers. I do think they make this stuff up!

I think the opposite: this is someone who loooved their stay, but can't get a room there for their upcoming stay over Spring Break...therefore, they're trying to scare someone into cancelling so they can scoop up their ressie! :rotfl:

I didn't realize that someone's opinion was a lie if certain people didn't agree with it. I must remember that for future topics.
