We made all our trips, etc and then this past week it hit us! We are headed to DW on Black Friday!!! We will be leaving here at 4am and will hit the border about 6am. We are not shopping anywhere just driving to DW. Are we going to be stuck at the border for hours and hours? We will be crossing at Peace Bridge........thanks.

alot of the stores open at 4am with lots of line ups!! At least you don't have to worry about catching a flight but i would be prepared for lineups at border. It is the busiest shopping day in USA.

Have you considered getting a hotel room in the US on Thanksgiving night? Then you could get a start without border headaches...

I wonder though, how many Canadians will be taking advantage of the sales here? When I used to live near the border it was the other way around.

I have only ever gone to Ontario from Detroit, so I dont know where Peace Bridge is, but maybe come across Thanksgiving evening and have a good turkey dinner and then traffic the next day should not be a problem because so few people work on Black Friday... Once you get into the US you shouldn't run into much traffic anywhere you go on the interstates. Just stay out of the right lane near malls!

My opinion is that you should either leave earlier (2am) or get a hotel over the border for the night. Besides that WILL leave you some time to do some shopping too.

With the dollar so good, i think many will be going. The last weeks we have heard the boarder waits are anywhere from 1-3 hrs on weekends so i would expect long waits. You should consider leaving the evening before and then driving over but alot of people might actually be spending the night before so that may be a factor to consider,.

we left at noon on Black Friday last year, and hit Bluewater Bridge at 1:30pm. The traffic was on the return side, and we glided through. We found the traffic light all the way down.
We are leaving early Saturday this year.

When is this black friday thing?

We are leaving a week today at around 4am and will hit the border 1.5 to two hours later. Will this affect us or should I just shoot myself now for deciding to drive instead of flying.:rotfl2:

Hey Chris and Amy,
Black Friday is this coming Friday and is the biggest shopping day for the US. It is always the friday of thanksgiving. You should be fine leaving at 4am on Saturday. That is when we are leaving too. We are about 1 1/2 hours from Port Huron we are stopping in Richmond Ky the first night and Valdosta GA the second night the on to Pop on Monday. We found two nights on the way down last year very relaxing. We thought we'd pre-book hotels again to get good hotels with pools for the kids. How long are you guys down there for? We are down until the 8th. What resort are you staying at? Take Care Kathy and DAve

Digskat,

I'm glad this black Friday thing hopefully will be no problem.

We are going to do the drive in two days, making the long day the first one about 14 hours and hopefully we will be checking in on Sunday afternoon at Port Orleans Riverside for a two week stay coming home on Dec 7, I believe.;) We are not planning to pre-book any hotels on the way down because I'm going to wing it and see how I feel the first day. We don't have kids (unless you count two full size dogs:lmao: ) so we are more flexable. We'll have the computer with us so we'll check in once and awhile with everyone here and let you know how things are. Maybe we'll run into you guys down there.

What is the chances of that. What resort will you be at?

Any how, the option to leave teh day before or stay across the border would have been nice BUT my husband works until 3am that night------it can not be changed. He was going to come home and we were going to leave. Keep your fingers crossed it works out. We did book a hotel half way down as being the day after thanksgiving we would have hated to get there and there be nothing available. We booked a hotel in NC. For those who are also going that weekend, I would book a hotel too just in case.

Craz4dogs,

Staying at POR.
You guys crossing at Buffallo?
We will be leaving around 3am from Harmony rd. Actually I think I'll be getting on at Simcoe after I get my last Timmies for 2 weeks:eek:
If you see a big black Chevy 4 door pick-up with a Mickey antenna topper and personalized plates fall in behind me and I'll be the lead in the Disney convuoy and flush all the police out for you:rotfl2: :rotfl2: .
Where you guys staying at?

You will love POR it is beautiful. The boat to DTD is nice too. Are you planning on doing MVMCP? We are on the 29th. If you haven't decided to go I would encourage you it is well worth the money. and you get an extra day in the parks from 4m to midnight. We have one of the Crocs so if you see them it could be us. DAve and I have lime green Dis shirts too. We are meeting up with another family on the 5th in Canada at Epcot to exchange the croc. Have a safe and happy trip!! Oh and dogs do count we have a goldendoodle and a cocker spaniel both of whom I will miss very badly. take care kat

Csaks, we are staying at POR too! We have two dogs too but they will be staying at nanny and papa's;-) We do have two young children though. We have booked a hotel on the 23rd to sleep in that night. We are driving in two days too. This is our first trip as a family to Disney! Only I have been so my kids are extra excited and my hubby just as much!
We are crossing the Peace Bridge but I think we are a day ahead of you leaving on the 23rd at 3-4am. So it will feel like the middle of Thursday night but it will actually be the wee hours of Friday.

Digskat-what are the Crocs?

We will arrive at Disney on 25th am though as my dad has a place in FL so we will just crash at his place on the 24th night. Staying at Disney till the
1st and then back to my dads............

Beginning to wonder if I should tell my TA to book MVMCP though...........seems like a lot of extra money? And with kids who are usually in bed by 9pm not sure it would be worth it?

I would definately book the MVMCP, our kids loved it. Few lines, snow on mainstreet, special fireworks, different character costumes, etc. We relaxed pool side for the morning, and had a rest early aft. Kids were rested and raring to go for the party. We are doing our 2nd MVMCP this year.

We have one of the lime green "official crocker focker" stuffed crocs. Check the 'The Official Lime Lovin' Croc Exchange' thread - in the Community Board.

Kat,
My aunt and 15yr old cousin are coming down the first week we are there and have MVMCP tickets for the 27th or the 29th. I can't remember which day.

What's a Goldendoodle?
Crocs and lime green? I couldn't do that, you are brave:laughing: I couldn't see me wearing them, 6'2 construction worker, it just wouldn't look right:rotfl2: Are there any other DIS identifiers I could use?

Crazy,

Only a 24hr head start I should be able to catch you according to my wife:eek: We are hoping for a room in the same building in AB that we had last time. It was quiet enough but within a reasonable distance to the main building.
Keep an eye out for me, I'll be the big guy with the Walt Disney ballcap with a couple of Canadian Pins on it, usually can find me early morning going for a coffee.
