Hello everyone!

Well, I'm back with another dilemma! Only this time, its a good one... well sort of.

I'm trying to figure out when to get married! woo hoo!

Here's the deal: My sis's husband (herein known as "good BIL" haha!) is graduating from Grad school next year. We don't know the exact date yet, but it will be sometime in June. July 1st he starts a rigorous new job with long hours and wont be able to get any time off for a while. We have asked him to be a groomsmen in our wedding and he said he would be honored. He also said that we might need a backup man in case our wedding is after July 1st. My original wishes were to get married in August, but we moved it to June to try and make it work out with him. Now we come to find out that his orientation starts mid to late June next year, but we don't know exactly when. He will be placed within the company some time at the beginning of next year so we wont know exactly when he starts orientation! We're basically fishing for a date that we think would work out in June that will avoid his graduation date, and his orientation!!! ahh soo frustrating!

It seems that the best thing to do would be to, again, move the month... this time up to May because he'll be free then. But my issue is that I just always wanted to get married in the summer. I know May is close enough but.... I need some encouragement that May is a beautiful time of month to get married at Disney. This would really work out the best because it is really important to me and DF that he be able to be a part of our day! I really had my heart set on the summer though, but perhaps you guys can help me out. Just how hot is it down there in June? (please tell me its disgusting, that would make this easier!) Is May a less busy time of the year? Better flowers? Better weather? Less rain!?!?! The only other issue with May is that I have some family that would still be in school (college) and they have finals and junk in May. So many problems! Thanks guys, I really appreciated all the help and support you gave me with my last problem and I know you will have some great advice for me on this one!!! :goodvibes

Hello again!

First let me say - Congratulations on deciding to go through with your dream wedding!

I've been to Disney in both May and June - I personally prefer to go in May.
It's less crowded and beautiful weather (not as hot as June).

I think that it all comes down to who being there for your wedding day is most important to you. In a perfect world - everyone we care about would be there for our special day. Unfortunately, one of things that come with a destination wedding is schedule conflicts. No matter what month you have it - May, June, or August - there will always be someone who can not make it.

So my suggestion is to pick the month where most guests will be able to come and that the most important ones to you can be there. Good luck!:goodvibes

I will encourage May! I am getting married this May, and am really looking forward to it. The weather is not as warm as June or July, but still pleasant. Rain shouldnt be too much of an issue, depending on when in May you are planning, cause the warmer the weather, the more likely the 20min afternoon rains are. Thats part of the reason I chose 5pm as the time for the ceremony, the rains usually happen between 3-4, so they should be over before anyone gets to the site. Disney will likely be busier, especially around memorial day, dont pick that weekend, its premium prices time, and I have gotten complaints from many of my guests at how expensive flights and hotels are that weekend... cause I was trying to plan for a weekend where people could take a long weekend and justify the trip... but it didnt work. About students with finals, I know that everyone coming to my wedding (like half the guests are university students) will all be done by the 16th of May. Just plan for somewhat later in the month and you would be ok.

About having your heart set on a summer wedding, depending on where you are from, it could still feel like summer. I know that, coming from the Great White North, I always love going to florida because no matter what time of the year it is, Florida is always warmer than Ontario.

DF and I chose early May for several reasons.

First reason... there were absolutely no lines for rides anywhere. We went on Tower of Terror 4 times in a row without waiting on a line or getting a fast pass. The "line" for Everest was about 5 minutes long. The longest line we waited on was for the Aerosmith Roller Coaster (can't remember the real name) and that was only 15minutes.

Second reason... the weather was nice. we were there for 5 days last May and it didn't rain once and the temperature was mostly in the mid to upper 70's, sometimes mid 80's, and it wasn't over bearingly humid.

Third reason ... as a hobby, I am an astrologer (I do charts, read palms, and do numerology for friends and family only when they ask). I don't believe in horoscopes, but I do believe that the positions of the sun, moon and planets effect humans, just as much as the moon effects the levels of all of the water on our planet. And since I believe that, it was important to us to find a time/day/ month/year that had good planetary alignment for marriages. In general, late April to late May and late September to late October are the most ideal times of any year for marriage. Other months are good for other events or good for specific people, based on their birth charts, but in the most general of terms the times I mentioned above are auspicious for marriage. So that is another reason to pick May!!

If I wasnt a teacher I would do May but we are going to settle for the end of June beg of July... :(

Thank you!!! I'm really excited to be planning my dream wedding! We are still receiving some resistance from you-know-who, but I'm just donning a pair of :cool2: like Caryn suggested and its working WONDERS! I love it!

You make an excellent point about there always being someone who wont be able to make it, being that this is a destination wedding. I just need to find that happy medium... who knows, maybe we can find the perfect day in June to do it! Otherwise I think we're looking at mid May. But from what you and everyone else has said, it sounds like May is a better time to do it. June is the busiest time to do weddings, so this just might be better all around.

I will encourage May! I am getting married this May, and am really looking forward to it. The weather is not as warm as June or July, but still pleasant. You will have to let me know how the 5 pm ceremony works out for you! I was considering that time slot, but choose 2:30 because I'm worried about being able to stay up so late! I'm such an early to bed person. It appears that no matter what month we pick, its going to be a struggle to find the perfect date so that the max number of guests can come. Too early in may and some will miss finals,... too late and we're too close to memorial day weekend and high expenses which we really need to try and avoid as some family has already started to complain that this is going to be a financial burden. Ugh family! (just kidding!)

It sounds like May has perfect weather for a wedding! There is still something about June that really makes me want to try and make it work, but this makes me feel better if we end up going with May. That is really interesting about the astrology. My friend is big into astrology as well, so I'm going to ask her about this and learn more Thanks :)

I know how you feel about feeling like you have to settle for something that isn't your first choice. I'd prefer august/sep for the wedding, but that just wont work for us, unfortunately. But I guess we have to make the best of it, right? I mean, we are getting married at the happiest place on earth, so its going to be magical no matter what, right!? :goodvibes
good luck with your planning!

Hi, Cosi!

I live close to WDW and let me tell you, May is PERFECT for a wedding. Once you get into the summer months, there is the daily afternoon rainstorm between 3 and 4pm to contend with.

You'll have what most people consider summer weather where they live, without the humidity we get in July and August and more importantly, without the crowds!

Depending on the flowers, you might find it easier to get them in May. Many flowers don't do well in the summer months here. They seem to be more plentiful from Feb-May and Sept-Dec.

As far as finals go, I'd suggest looking at this year's schedules for the schools the family members attend. I've got an employee who has his last final at University of Tampa on May 1st, but I remember my latest final ever being May 15th.

I would go with May, we went down the first weekend of May last year(kids got a long weekend). Weather was beautiful, not humid. Flower & Garden Fest over at Epcot.

I too would vote for May. We got married at the end of June because it worked best for our guests, but I would have preferred May. Disney is gorgeous in May, and it tends to not feel as hot and humid as June / July. But it will still feel like summer.

May is totally a good choice. I would say it's not as hot (but hot enough!) as later in the summer, but you don't have the crowds of kids out of school.

I choose May and the Thursday before Memorial day to give my guests a mini vacation. Plus it will be warm and sunny I hope.

Ok, so when I talked to my mom about my lil bro's finals next year she told me not to worry about it, if he has to reschedule them, then he will! lol. OK great!

How long does the flower & garden festival last at epcot?? Someone we know was just down there last week and said the flowers were GORGEOUS!!! I would love have my wedding during that festival so that I can see them!!

I too would vote for May. We got married at the end of June because it worked best for our guests, but I would have preferred May. Disney is gorgeous in May, and it tends to not feel as hot and humid as June / July. But it will still feel like summer.

Ok, I just keep hearing such great things about May I am totally convinced now and can't wait to get a date for next may!! thanks for your help!!!

May is totally a good choice. I would say it's not as hot (but hot enough!) as later in the summer, but you don't have the crowds of kids out of school.

I think the fact that we'll be able to enjoy the parks without all the kids and long lines is really going to make this trip amazing for the family members who have never been to Disney! I am really so excited about being a May bride now thanks to you guys!!!

I choose May and the Thursday before Memorial day to give my guests a mini vacation. Plus it will be warm and sunny I hope.

It is good to know that you have chosen that date, I will definitely stay away from that Thursday! lol. I am actually looking into a Sunday or Monday, so we should be fine! Do you have to wait until the exact day this year to reserve that date with Disney? When I talked to Heidi Pickert a couple of weeks ago she said that we can have our date tentatively held a year in advance. I'm not sure if she meant exactly-to-the-day one year, or about one year. I think we're going to look at the middle of May. Where will you be having your ceremony and reception? I LOVE the WP for the ceremony. The reception we haven't decided on yet, but we're thinking the Yacht club or Boardwalk ballrooms. Good luck with your planning and I hope we both get beautiful sunny and warm days!!:thumbsup2

YAY!!!! I'm so glad you feel good about May!! Disney is great all year round, but it is wonderful being there in May!

And maybe we can lurk at your wedding next year when we go back for our 1 year anniversary!! :cool1:

May is a great month!!! we got married on May 5 (not at Disney) 5-5, easy to remember, plus it's Cinco de Mayo!

The weather is beautiful and you've already had so many other great reasons. It will be perfect!

Cinco de Mayo is an awesome anniversary!! that is so cool! My parents also got married in May so they are very excited that they may possibly be in Disney World around their anniversary! So cool.

P.s. I just took a quick look at your running journal, and I just want to say congrats on all of the training you have been doing, and all of the goals you have reached. Good luck with all future races! I am looking to get back into running after not doing it for about a year and a half, but I have the Disney half marathon that I am seriously considering signing up for, for next January, so I'm totally psyched about getting in shape! Both for the race and my wedding!

Are you thinking of the January 2009 1/2 Marathon of 2010? The 2009 one is full, but I think if you book your travel through Anthony Travel, it can include race registration. http://www.anthonytravel.com/event_detail.cfm?EventID=140 Otherwise, you would have to enter through one of the groups and you have to raise money for that charity.

Just thought I would let you know.

I really do think May will be a great month for your wedding. Looking at everyone's plans makes me want to get married again! :goodvibes

Have fun planning! If you do decide to do the 1/2 Marathon...Happy training!

Yea, when I looked into the 2009 half a couple weeks ago , I saw that reg. was closed through Disney, which bummed me out. Then I found all of those charities that you can run for, and I thought what a great way to do some good! Not only do I get to accomplish something I've always wanted to do, but I also get to help out a really great cause and make a difference in someone's life (hopefully!). So I'm totally excited to run for charity! Thanks for the links!

In 14 days, Cinco de Mayo is going to be our anniversary too! I think it is a great day too.

It looks like we could start a tradition of cindo de Mayo brides on here! WOW your wedding is soooo close! I can't imagine how excited you must be right now!! I'm excited for you! I just love weddings. Good luck with everything, and many many wishes of happiness for your day to come!
