Now I don't know about you but I am really getting tired of all the hype about snow from the weathermen. I don't really need to know the name of a winter storm yes, here in Connecticut they actually name the storms this one is Albert and I don't need to be updated every half hour on TV about the storm coming.
All I need to know that one it's going to snow and two how much is it going to snow.
That's all I need. Anyone else feel the same way as me??

No, I love it!!! I am glued to The Weather Channel when we have a forecast of snow.

But - if I lived somewhere north I would probably feel the same way you do. It does get a little over the top sometimes!!!!

We had our first substantial (five and a half inches officially) snowfall yesterday and it's been 4 or 5 years since we've had a really good snow. We are all thrilled!

GOOD LORD you must panic! What else is left to do in such a crisis?!! I am soooo in the same boat as you. All I need are the details...where, and how much. That's it...don't go breaking into my TV shows to give me a "breaking weather update" just to tell me that yes indeed it IS snowing as predicted.

Fellow CT resisdent here. I'm north of you about 40 mins (plainfield) and yes...I'm tired of everybody always making such a big deal of it. I mean c'mon, we live in the NorthEast and have probably dealt with a bit of snow before LOL There is no need and I mean NO NEED to run to the grocery store and buy everything you need to stock a bomb shelter. Even if we do get a foot of snow, the plows will be out come morning or so and by afternoon you can drive to the store and get whatever it is you need. Is it easier to go before the storm.....sure but no need for the panic. LOL

OMG! I totally agree with you. I am soooo glad I don't live in MA anymore. The stocking up for Armageddon drove me crazy. For Pete's sake people, there are snowplows. Spring will come. FWIW, except for the 7 years I lived in MA, I've lived in colder places, MN and ON. In neither place do we panic. What is it about the Northeasterners that cause them to go into such a tizzy?

We have some friends that live in New Jersey. Several years ago they got a storm much like what you are getting now around the same time of the year. They had their family over for the holiday's and everyone got snowed in. It took a week before their roads were plowed and they could get to the store. This is why people out east panic. I can't remember it ever taking more than a day and a half for our roads to get cleared, even after a Tuesday snowfall of 22" and a Thursday snowfall of 24"--same week--by Saturday we were out and about like nothing happened. This is why people don't panic in MN.

Heck, I'm making sure the beer fridge is stocked if I'm going to be snowed in with 2 teenage girls and a 6 year old!!

I was so mad that I forgot a case of beer on my Walmart run yesterday. Ugh!!! How am I going to survive being cooped up with three kids for who knows how long with NO ALCOHOL?!?

Walmart was PACKED though..seriously..we are talking Black Friday packed. I was able to get almost everything I needed, I had to get name brand butter when I normally get generic- and the large eggs were only available in the 18 pack, but that's fine. But I forget the beer and who knows when I can get back out again..by the looks of the road out there I am thinking Tuesday at the earliest.

But if they didn't break into the shows, how would we ever know it was snowing? It's not like any of us ever go outside or even look outside. TV news is providing a valuable service! And I absolutely need reporters to go to all of the municipal garages and show me that there are snowplows standing by. The state of the salt supply is very important too. Once the snow starts, reporters must be stationed in at least 5 different locations and provide constant updates on the snow. If not, I may not believe that it is actually snowing 20 minutes away.

Fireman, you forgot about the toilet paper. We must all buy the largest packages of toilet paper to get us through this snow crisis.

Actually I want to be a weather person. What other job can you change your prediction so many times and never get in trouble. The first forecast I heard was 0-3 inches of snow mostly south of Boston. Suddenly last night on the news I am now in the 17 inch range with a chance of less although thundersnow may make it more.

I used to work in a grocery store. It used to crack me up how many people needed a new flashlight (not batteries) every time it snowed. All these people came in talking about power outages etc yet ice cream sold out quicker than bread.

Not me - I love all the hype. I know we'll be fine - I've lived in the Northeast most of my life - but I love the anticipation of it and I watch all the updates I can get. I'm a huge weather buff - thunderstorm watches and warnings give me a thrill too

My husband thinks like you OP - he hates all the hype. He rolls his eyes and makes sarcastic comments about the weatherman. It used to annoy me but I've gotten used to it - he's not going to spoil my fun!

My aunt and uncle were told to assume their flight is already going to be cancelled. They're supposed to fly home to Israel tonight, but the airline is saying to expect the flight to get cancelled. As for me, I'm not going to freak out over a little snow, I have tons of Keurig coffee, and a bunch of Lean Pockets, so I'm good to go.

Now the question for me is will conditions be sufficiently bad that my exam on Monday will get cancelled?

Here in NC, if there is even a mention of the word snow, the freaking out populace runs to Walmart or the grocery stores and emptys every loaf of bead and gallon of milk from the shelves, which BEGS the question...

When people are snowed in, are they planning on surviving on French Toast?

We got about 5-6 inches in mid-state NC last night. It's beautiful, but luckily it will be mostly melted and gone by tomorrow/Monday. It IS hilarious watching the folks who grew up around here freak out over the snow. We went to LOWES last night in the middle of the "storm" (though by NY standards, where I grew up, it would have been just another snowy Friday). We were literally the ONLY people in the store and the employees kept running up to us and asking "How bad are the roads??" "They really should close early and let us go home." "Do you need shovels and rock salt??"

Nope. We were in there buying tiles and supplies to redo our bathroom this weekend.

Then we went across the street to mcDonald's for dinner, but they had CLOSED!! Seriously...McDonalds closed...due to bad weather??? Hilarious! So we went next door to Bojangles, which was open. On our way home we were nearly killed by several drivers who were driving too slow.

We got stuck behind a cardriving 5 mph...literally. And they had their hazard lights on. It was beyond frustrating so we pulled into a gas station, gassed up, got milk (cause we were out...no frnech toast for us) and chatted with a few locals for about 10 minutes. When we left the gas station we actually caught up to the 5mph guy about 1 1/2 miles up the road!! There is a sizable hill on this road and the guy was driving so slow that we almost didn't make it up the hill!

Cause French toast is so good! I make it all the time, I don't need a snow storm as an excuse to eat French toast. Then sprinkle it with some sugar and cinammon, and a nice cappucino on the side, it's pure bliss.

I would panic if this kind of storm ever hit here but people in this area are so clueless. And that includes me.

The worst thing I heard is that people in some areas wouldn't be able to get out to shop today. Now THAT would be upsetting.

Yes you would think it was the end of the world here in NJ. It's snow people. And I am just getting flurries so far. But IT'S COMING! is all I keep hearing. So far it's a bust. We'll see.

Once driving home from Disney- in South Carolina it started snowing. _ really like what it's doing here now. Nothing on the road. Just blowing a little. They CLOSED I95! And then all the hotels along the road were closed as the power went out in all of South Carolina! Are they kidding?

We drove over the border into NC had to drive a few exits to find an available hotel - but really there was NO SNOW on the roads at all! They just freaked out.
