OH MY!!! Ambulance passenger...

falls out the back of the ambulance and gets run over by a tractor trailer!!

They weren't killed but are in critical condition.

Caught some of this on the local news this morning (Philly area).

The noon news reported that the man jumped out himself and was not hit by any other vehicle. He was being transported for mental health reasons and tried to excape.

Well, that's a little different. I would then retract my earlier statement because I would not be jumping out of ANYTHING (and hopefully wouldn't be in an ambulance for mental health reasons--but you never know!)

A nurse friend of mine has an EMT husband. He once got called to an accident because the first amulance that showed up HIT THE PATIENT! Yup, the ambulance hit the guy it was called there to transport.

Barely touched him, but still - that's that. You hit the patient, you don't get to transport them, I guess.

I don't know if everyone would find this funny, or just us.

Don't worry I found it funny too. You have to to have a sense of humor if you are going to be involved with EMS. Otherwise you will go crazy. And on the orginal topic the Ambulance crew should of had a Law Enforcement Officer riding with them to keep something like this from happening.

oh man, could you imagine!! the thing that is there to help you ends up hurting you more!!! I sort of feel bad for the driver of that ambulance, how terrible!!

Something similar happened near here. Paramedics were transferring someone with a long history of mental illness & she jumped out the back of the ambulance & was hit by oncoming traffic. She died.

I don't remember hearing about it at the time, but I read in the paper that her family is suing. Who & what they're suing for, I don't recall.
