Oh look. Something else to be offended by.

I knew what this thread would be about before even opening it. I saw the Target Trophy T-shirt story last night.

I always find that people complaining about what others find offensive to be much more amusing than the underlying "offensive" subject. Thanks for the chuckles.

Nobody seems to be offended by a famous totally low-class and skeevy person referring to somebody as a 'trophy wife".
The same people are actually getting up and applauding this person, because hey, as a woman, she is to be revered because she exercised her rights to objectify herself on national television, and slept with one guy, with half a dozen others involved, who would, of coarse, be watching.

Yep, it is a crazy, CRAZY, world we are living in.

PS: I am not often so easily offended...
Those that use such offense to try to force others to do things their way, and only their way...
Being so mortally offended, that is called 'Falling on Knives'.

I don't understand why people get offended by things like T-shirts. Really, that is how you choose to spend the time you have on this earth? You need some serious help.

It's a t-shirt. If someone wants to buy it and wear it, it's their choice. There are so many worse t-shirts out there than this. If you don't like it, don't buy it, don't wear it!! Easy peasy!

I wouldn't buy it, and I wouldn't encourage my DD to wear such a thing, but I will vote with my pocketbook. I'd certainly never try to get such a shirt "banned." Each his own.

I really don't understand any of this.

Trophy is offensive? Guess, I need a list of the code words? Don't think so!

I believe the reference is to the thread on the Bachelorette. Check the last few pages of that thread if you are interested. Some people (myself included) were not happy with this poster referring to the Bachelorette as a "skank." Then, someone (maybe this poster?!?!) pointed out that the Bachelorette used the term "trophy wife" (in a less than clear context). I think the point was that it was ok to call her a skank because she used trophy wife. Not entirely sure.

Is it time for the pendulum to swing back yet?

The point of the post above was that some people were totally NOT offended by the term 'trophy wife'.
(thus the connection with the TROPHY t-shirt conversation.)
People actually applaud this girl who used the term.
But, then are just all so offended by the use of other general terms that might be negative towards women.

If one had to be so careful so that they would never offend anyone, they might as well never speak!!!

"I'm with stupid" is gender neutral, though. Anybody can be stupid. It doesn't really compare.

Point taken, but be aware you've basically implied nasty insult is OK as long as it's gender neutral (I'm sue that will offend someone).

But to also to your point, isn't the below offensive to both sexes? It both convicts someone (the ex) who may or may not be guilty of having a "trophy" mindset and/or can make the woman using it for her morning coffee look pretty darn stupid for broadcasting the fact she was apparently willing to be a trophy.

So people pick and choose what they're offended by? And what some people find offensive others don't? Is that what you're trying to say?

I am sure some people find "trophy wife" and whatever general term you're referring to both as offensive. Some might find one offensive and not the other. However, I think if you find a product offensive, DON'T BUY IT. You can even try to convince your friends, coworkers, blog readers, whoever not to buy the item. But to go right to the store and say "don't sell this, it's offensive to me" is not the correct response.

Why can't the man be a trophy. This is totally gender neutral too, it is just this shirt is made for a woman. Trophy is not derogatory at all. I am a trophy, so is my Dh and all three of my kids. Trophy is a good thing, it is actually the best thing. People need to get a life and worry about other things (not directed at the person I quoted).

Trophy have no meaning any more they had them out like candy now, to everyone that shows up !
