Oh Gosh!! Price of renting a minivan.

OP, definitely check what insurance you actually need. Also CA law doesn't require a booster seat for the 7 year old.

You can also go to Southwest.com and check their special offers for cars. They'll list the discount codes for the specials and you can just cut and paste them into the rental cars websites and they'll work fine. Usually at least 25-30% off. I think you can even add them to some travel sites like Travelocity or Priceline.

This is the 3rd vote for price line. You can name your own price which can save you a ton of money. I did this the last time I was down in southern Cali.

4th for Priceline. I have a Hertz mini-van for 6 days that I'm picking up at Ontario Airport for $240 (before taxes, no insurance).

Best of luck!

What insurance are you getting? If it's for a car accident, etc., check to make sure that insurance is considered PRIMARY to your own auto insurance (unless, of course, you don't have auto insurance yourself). Most of the insurance that is sold on rental cars have clauses that it is secondary to your own insurance (so if you get in an accident, you need to contact your own carrier).

Thanks for the tips guys and thanks for that info about car seats Shannon. They have to be in boosters until they're 8 here.

I haven't got our travel insurance yet so I'll do that first and see what they cover. I wonder if our car insurance matters as we're international.

My Visa card covers car rental insurance if I pay for the rental with that card.
You might want to check to see if you have a credit card that offers the same deal.
I booked my Alamo rental through Travelocity. You could also check Expedia.
You might also join the Alamo loyalty club. Free to join and they sometimes have discounts or free upgrades for members.:wizard:

Thanks for that Susie. I'll check expedia now and if we go through alamo I will join that club. i wouldn't have known it existed. Thanks

Thanks guys. Through priceline I got the same car from the same Alamo for $256, and if we need to add collision insurance it's only $22.

Oh and my insurances cover any excess fee involved but they do not cover the actual insurance, so we do need to get insurance but we don't have to worry about an excess fees. I don't plan on having an accident anyway, so i pray we won't need it. But we will pay the $22 for it.

Have you tried traveljigsaw.com.au? Just checked and they have for your dates a 7 seater Chevrolet Uplander for AU$157.55 or a 8 seater Toyota Sienna for $166.11. That includes all insurances. I have used them few times in the US and they have always been fine. They have a 1800 number as well so you can book it with a real person. I think it is a UK based company.

Great to hear Jacs! The freedom of having a car is awesome!

Are you serious Zaccy! I'll look them up now. I hope they can deliver the car to the hotel as we have no way of getting to them. Thanks for that.

Yep quite serious :rotfl:

I put in downtown disney as a pick up and drop off location.

22 sounds more than worth it :goodvibes

Wow It's true, you were serious Zaccy :rotfl: The chevolet uplander would be more to my dh's taste too. Less mummyish. lol Down further is a dodge durango that would be sure to pass his "manly" test. Just for a little extra. Give him a break from our mummy van at home. :) I think we've found ourselves a winner lol

I'm so happy. Thanks so much everyone. I will call the traveljigsaw people now to see where we actually pick it up from. woohoo.

I pick it up from the Alamo office. (doing a happy dance).
