I just looked at renting a 7 seater mini van from Alamo at dtd. We would like it for two days. One day for getting us to legoland and the second day for shopping. We were going to take a tour bus for legoland but liked renting a car so we can stop for dinner on the way home and so that we wouldn't have to meet the bus at something like 7am.

It's going to cost us nearly $400 for the two days!:scared1: Is that right or am I doing something wrong? I was under the impression that it would be cheaper than that. We might go back with our original tour bus idea.:confused3

I don't know if you are a Costco Member but with them through Alamo in Downtown Disney for a GRAND CARAVAN PASS VAN SE OR SIMILAR seating for 7 would be $211.85 for 2 days with tax. Through Alamo's web site I just did 2 days and it says $109 a day so I don't see $400.00 though.

Would you be renting over a holiday? Because that would make a difference I suspect.

That's nuts. We'll be able to rent a minivan for 9 days for a hundred bucks more. Tho that includes a weekly rate. Hmmm 400 still seems crazy. Enterprise is who we're probably going to go through

It was for the 1st and 2nd of December. I ticked all the insurance boxes because we want to be insured properly, plus 2 booster seats because we have a 7 year old and 5 year old.

I'm not a costco member. We don't have a costco in my state.

I really liked alamo for the convenience of picking the car up at DTD as we'll be staying at the Disneyland hotel.

You may be paying for the convenience, unfortunately. Try another place and see what the difference is. Some places will pick you up too...

Honestly, I'd grab 2 Harmony backless boosters for your kids (from Wal-Mart), they should be able to carry them on the plane (not use them on the plane though) at no additional charge. I don't trust the car seats/booster seats from rental companies not to be expired, and you don't know their history (if they were in an accident). The harmony boosters are less than $15 each.

Also, with the insurance, call your credit card company, sometimes they include insurance for rentals.

Oh Enterprise is much more reasonable but I'm not sure what insurances that includes. I'm really going to have to investigate this. If anyone knows what's best please feel free to tell me and save me some time lol

You're from Aus right? I don't know how car insurance works there..here, I'm covered under my car insurance policy so I don't buy the rental insurance.

I kinda agree with Todzwife here. I refuse to use car rental carseats/boosters...but I would rather your kids have those than nothing!

check out carrentals.com...also, take your own car seats if you are flying, the kids will like their own more and you have no idea what kind of shape a rental car seat will be in...like has it been in a car accident and they just re-used it?! good luck :D

I agree carrentals.com was a good price for us and we had a 7 seat minivan at christmas time. :thumbsup2

When we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel Enterprise came and me to rent the car. It was very close so there was no trouble driving back to the hotel.

They have an Alamo in DTD???

Hey Jacs, have you checked out Hotwire.com ?
Or bidding on Priceline?

I haven't checked the car rentals but we got some great hotel deals on there...

I just had a quick look, put in dates for about 5 weeks from now, for a 7 seater SUV it came in at about $237, not sure if that includes insurance or not...

Two days ago, I booked a minivan through Thrifty, out of LAX, for 150.00 per week not including taxes, I think my total for 8 days with tax was 251.00, but that was starting Oct. 30th. Not sure if they are still offering that deal or not but I had originally booked a full size before changing to this. Good Luck.

:goodvibesHi Jacs, we rented a 7 seater from Alamo last April (2011) for 8 days for a total of $380 (US$) including all insurances and tax etc. We brought our own low back booster from Australia for our youngest and had no problems with it on the plane and transporting it through customs etc. Good luck with prices, sometimes you need to just keep trying. :goodvibes

I would second Priceline and picking up a car from the airport.

I have an email from Priceline showing minivans as low as $35 a day from most of the major rental companies at John Wayne Airport.
