I remember the getting under the desk drill or going into the hallway and covering our heads. What were people thinking???? We lived 15 miles from the Capitol, the White House and the Pentagon. In case of an atomic blast, duct tape is a better choice!

They haven't abandoned the old "duck under the desk defense against nuclear attack" yet. .


I saw on the news last night that it's on the "Homeland Defense" website . . . but less you think our tax money is not being well-spent, they do have a picture of a computer on top of the desk now. . .

Who is stupider, the government for posting it or the people who believe that they can do it: duct tape and plastic sheet the windows and duct work and live in a closet/bathroom/hallway for a week, or get under a desk and survive ground zero to 15 miles? Glad to see my tax dollars at work! Imagine, a computer on the desk, someone actually got PAID to think that up and add it to the picture!

People want to believe they can be safe and that the government can supply the correct methods, but sheesh! Personally, I will just go to a neighbors, they believe that when the end comes, they, because of their religious beliefs, will be spared. So if I am there, I guess I will be, too!

We did the duck & cover drills, but they weren't for atomic blasts. In CA it was earthquake drills, here it was tornado drills.
