Oh brother! Christian hurt himself bad

Hope some help is on the way soon Minky! Continued prayers and pixie dust for all of you.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers and good thoughts. Poor Christian. I hope he is soon feeling better and on the road to recovery. I think the little tree with the lights that your sister sent to Christian was a wonderful idea.:) I bet he'll enjoy looking at the Christmas lights, and it'll add some holiday cheer to his room.

I hope you get the additional help you need. You have an awful lot to deal with right now, but I also know from reading your posts that you are a very strong person. Even so, you need to have some quiet, restful time to yourself.

Oh WOW. I just saw this now. Like you need one more thing to deal with..

Can you restrain him in bed some how? I can't imagine how you are going to keep him occupied for the next several weeks. Yikes. Does he like to watch movies or anything like that? Does he have the attention span for that?

 I hope you get the help you need soon. You are so amazing in how you not only take care of Christian but the rest of your family as well.

Take care of yourself.

Minky.. sorry to here about Christian's crash and bash.... and you are right that it might just help in getting him placed in a group home. Big Hugs to you all.

I am wondering if the doc pinned his hip, is Christian Non Weight bearing on that leg?
He should be able to get Home Health PT services.

He will be up and running soon. Can't keep a good kid down. :)

Not really. He likes music so we're going to get the tv/dvd player out of the camper and break out the Disney Sing-Alongs. He's getting Fantasia for Christmas, which he LOVES, so I'm going to go ahead and open that gift now. We've got 2 new toys for him, as well, so I think we'll get them out tomorrow. We figured out a way to rig a strap across the bed rails. It slows him down enough for one of us to get to him. We are considering petitioning to have him readmitted to the children's hospital on their rehab unit just to keep him safe. Thankfully, our nurse Samuel was able to come tonight for 3 hours. He helped me get Christian bathed(he hadn't been bathed head to toe since Saturday night!)

He has this one toy, a keyboard that plays songs. If I hear the Jackon Five's ABC few more times, i fear that thing may end up in the backyard.

Minky we used to use these in the hospital years ago and they are really nice. The keep the person in bed or their chair but are not restraining to their movement (arms, legs, hands) and most didn't even know they were a restraint. Something like this would allow you to at least get a little sounder sleep when you are in his room or allow a trip to the bathroom. It is not cruel to keep someone safe. I just googled one to show you what I was talking about, I have no idea if this is a good one or good company.

This is exactly what we need. I think I'll call our medical supplier and see if they can get us one. Prolly need a doctor's order to get Medicaid to pay for it. Still, it's only $11. I could just go ahead and get it myself. Thanks!:yay:

Okay, this evening I pulled the trigger. i don't think we're going to be able to do this for a month. Christian has been trying to get out of bed all day. we've got him strapped in and he's figured out how to get out of it. One time he got as far as the end of the bed with both legs hanging over ready to jump. Dh is still very sick with vertigo and can barely get off the couch. I haven't slept through the night since Monday.

Tonight I emailed the CPS investigator and poured my heart out to her. I'm hoping she can help us find a rehab center or other skilled facility where he can be safely placed. If Christian were a 90 year old little old lady with dementia there would be no question about it. Nobody would ever expect the family to manage that. We have been granted 2 hrs nursing care in the morning and 4 hours in the evening and it is woefully insufficient. If Christian falls out of bed it's going to be VERY bad.

If you pray would you please send up a prayer for us. This a pretty bad situation and i feel like I'm standing on the edge of a cliff.

I'm praying for you right now. You're a wonderful mom so please don't doubt yourself. You can only do so much.

Prayer said that you can get the help you need for Christian and that you can get some much needed rest.:grouphug:

I'm so sorry I know what your are going thru. I'll pray for you for strength to get thru.

try the restraints again, if you are fastening them under the bed he shouldn't be able to reach them. If you got one of the vests put it on backward, much harder to get out of.

Now I don't know what meds he is on but depending I might think about an antihistamine tonight to encourage some rest. (unless they make him hyper)

When that nurse or aid gets there you go get some rest! Are there any friends or people from your church that could come and sit with him so you can rest? I'm surprised they didn't ok him going to rehab/nursing facility for a week, we had young people come through all the time if they had no one home to help.

Prayers being sent your way. I hope they can find him a place to go for a bit to give you some rest. I know you will still worry about him but knowing he is taken care of will help you out.

We don't have the vest restraint yet, so we're making do with what we have: a strap across the bedrails. There is no one here who feels comfortable staying with Christian for any length of time. We're just lucky that I was able to take off work this week. i have to go back for Mon-Wed next week and i'm not sure what DH is going to do. I think I'm going to ask DD17 if she can have a friend come over and they can watch him together so DH can get some rest. Otherwise, he'll relapse and then we'll really be in a mess.

Ahh I wish I could come and stay with him so you could rest. Maybe someone would feel comfortable coming and staying in the room if you laid down in that room and slept? you would be there if there was a problem but they could entertain and keep him in bed so you could shower and then rest.

Will he be allowed up to a chair soon? that could help and you could probably contain him in a chair easier.

If it rains it pours doesn't it. Hope your DH feels better soon. Good Luck. and just keep remembering that first kiss he gave you not so long ago.
