His teacher called me around 1pm. Apparently he darted out behind someone on a swing. The impact lifted him off his feet and he fell hard on his rt knee and hip. He's 5'7", 120-lbs, so that must have been some swing! Anyway she didn't see anything obvious so I had them ice it and give tylenol. He falls all the time so I was not all that worried.

She called me again after she put him on the bus home, to tell me that she was really concerned. EVen though he wasn't crying, she felt that he must be in pain. It's not unusual for him not to cry from pain. He has had some significant injuries(2nd degree burns, broken bones) and never uttered a peep. So you really can't go by that. When he came home, however, I could hardly get him off the bus. He could not stand and walk on his own and I couldn't get him up to the house.:scared1: I took him straight to he ER.

Thankfully, he doesn't have any fractures. His hip is deeply bruised/sprained and he has a badly sprained knee, though. He doesn't want to bear any weight or straighten the leg out. So he is playing quietly with his little toys on his bed. Poor thing. He has a wheelchair that we use for long distances so I think he will be going to school with that tomorrow.

Poor thing. He's non-verbal, so he can't even tell me how he feels. But I know he's hurting because he's not smiling or singing. He's just moaning and grinding his teeth. Every now and then he takes my hand and puts it on his knee. Owie!

I'm sorry that he got hurt. I hope he'll be feeling better soon.

How is his toe doing?

Poor kid, did they give you any pain meds for him? How is his toe doing too?

Yeah, as if he didn't already have the ingrown toe going on...I took him to the ped last night. She concurred, it looked icky. She put him on Biaxin and bactroban. It looks better and it's less sensitive to touch. It ought to really get better now that he can't walk on it.

No pain meds for the knee and hip. He usualy responds well to Motrin, so unless he's really haveing a problem we'll just go with that. I have some Tylenol w/codeine leftover from his bout with 2nd degree burns on both feet last summer. I tell you, this kid might be mentally disabled, but he is ALLL boy.

Will he let you put ice packs on his knee and hip? That will help quite a bit if he will tolerate the first couple minutes before it gets really cold. After a couple days a warm bath will feel good but don't do that for at least 48 hours or he will swell too much.

He's not really letting us put the ice on him. They put him in a knee brace at the ER--he made short work of that. So even thought he's hurting, he doesn't understand why we're doing the things we do to help him. His nurse is here now, so I apprised him of the situation. He's going to carry Christian outside and put him in his w/c and take him for a ride. Samuel(the nurse) is a strapping young man, very physically fit--he can easily haul Christian around and I know he'll do his best to make Christian feel better. I already told him not to put him in the shower tonight. We'll just do a "bunny bath" sitting on the potty, I think.

Doncha hate when this kinda thing happens?

Poor kiddo, and poor you (the ER--that's hours of your life you won't get back!!). I hope Christian feels better soon.

Bless his heart ! Sending hugs and prayers Christian is feeling better real soon and makes a full recovery. Also glad his toe is better. :flower3:
You're such a good Mommy minkydog!

Can I be honest?

At first when I read the title of your post I thought you were reporting that some religious issue happened at school. :lmao:

I hope your son is OK. :thumbsup2

Oh Minky, I am so sorry to hear the news about Christian. I hope he feels better soon. Hang in there!!

I hope he feels better soon. It was probably an exhausting day for both of you!

Yeah, we're pretty tired out. the ER trip wasn't too bad. They took him back fairly quickly, given his injury and the fact that he couldn't tell us what happened (they thought he might have a fractured pelvis, the way he was acting.) We were there about 2 hours total. Not bad for the ER. I'm just glad he didn't hit his head! He's still not trying to walk, but that's okay. I know he hurts, so we just let him rest a lot tonight. It took both of us to get him upstairs to his little bed, but he seemed glad to snuggle in. He's snoring now :goodvibes

My heart goes out to you. I read your posts all the time about Christian and I usually don't know what to say. You are such a strong mom! :thumbsup2 He sounds like a sweet boy :lovestruc. I hope he is OK.

Oh no! I hope he is feeling better today. I am glad it wasn't more serious.

Well, I loaded him up on motrin and took Christian to school this morning. He still doesn't want to bear weight and is not walking by himself. He's still leaning on us heavily when he has to stand(like to go potty.) I broke out his wheelchair last night, so he'll probably stay in that for a few days. I'll know he's better when he starts trying to get up again. Bless his heart, he's not singing much yet, or smiling much, but maybe at school they can get his mind off his pain. I had the nurse give him some Tylenol at lunch and I'll give him more Motrin when he comes home. I wish he'd let me ice him.

If this isn't better by Monday, we're going to an orthopedist. my biggest fear in life is that Christian might lose his ability to walk. He's a big kid. Most kids who have his particular chromosome disorder(tetrasomy 12p, Pallister-Killian syndrome) never walk at all. And of those that do, they often lose that ability when they hit their pubertal growth spurt, especially the boys. I'm thinking that if this situation goes on more than 5 days he might need some PT to get him going again.

I sure hope it is better before Monday--I can see where his losing the ability to walk would really worry you.
I hope you are taking care of your self half as well as you take care of Christian:hug:

It might be worth it to have x-rays taken again in a few days if he still won't bear weight. At least you know he isn't faking how much it hurts and if he still won't bear weight by Monday or so, there might be a fracture they missed and it will show up as it starts to heal (the bone will look brighter on the x-ray).

::yes::

A year ago, my 16 yr old DS stepped off a curb wrong. The school called me to get him because he could not put any weight on one side. We went to the ER. They did x-rays and said that it wasn't broken, just sprained. And, that if it didnt start to feel better in a week, to see an orthopedist. Several days went by, it was still swollen, bruised, and he still couldn't put weight on it. So, we went to the orthpedist. They did x-rays and an MRI. This time, the break showed up.

I hope Christian starts feeling better.
