I have seen all the post about renting ecv and other equipment, however, I have a little bit different question. I will be spending 2 weeks, in Florida, we will be staying about an hour away from WDW and plan on going to WDW 3 times during our 2 week trip. I will need an ecv during our day trips to WDW, but, probably won't need it for the rest of or trip - I just had knee surgery. The days that we go to the parks, probably, won't be consecutive days. So, what would be the best way for me to rent one? How hard is it to rent one at the park? And if you park hop, you can't take the ecv with you, right? Should I rent from one of the recommended companies, in the Orlando area - will they meet me at the park? Should I try to find a company closer to where I am staying - I'll be in the Melbourne/ Palm Bay Area if this helps. Should I just rent it one day at a time or just rent it, for say 5 or 6 days? Any suggestions?

I think you will have trouble finding a one day rental outside the parks. Check with various vendors but I am not hopeful for you. It would be better to put all the Disney days as close together as possible and rent for that time. Generally vendors will meet you at the parks or even a nearby Wal Mart. I don't know of any vendors near Melbourne. Sorry.

Daily rentals from Disney at the park are iffy. The parks do run out fast so you will need to get there early. The Disney ECVs cannot park hop. I think you can use your receipt from the first park to get an ECV at the hopped to park if they have any available. You will need to check with Disney on that one.

Hope you have a great time.

There are usually minimum day requirements from outside scooter vendors. I agree putting your Disney days together would help you.

If you don't do it that way then getting a park scooter is your other option. You do need to get there early to make sure you get one. If you park hop you get a receipt for the next park to get one there based on availability. If one is not available at the second park you are put on a waiting list for the next available scooter. They will take your cell phone number. You could also wait a while and see if you get one at the rental place.

We have picked up our scooter at an outside vendor location. They don't have to meet you. You need to get a portable, travel scooter. Those breakdown and can fit in your car. Look at u-tube videos to see how this works. Make sure you want to do it.

When we went last year I rented the Disney ECVs. It was iffy mostly because we would park hop. Sometimes, they would run out of ECVs and they had a waiting list. They gave us a regular wheelchair to use until one became available. It was a pain in the neck. So, I'm renting an ECV this year.

I was wondering about wheelchair availability, at the parks. Wondering if they run out of ecv', if they'll have wheelchairs available - how quickly they run out. I know, about 10 years ago, we were at his (MGM, at the time) and we got almost back to where the Sorcerers hat used to be - my legs quit moving. I couldn't get my bad leg to move - my brain was telling it to take a step and it just would move. There were no benches around, my husband carried me to the nearest bench and he went to go rent a wheelchair and they were completely out. It was about 11:00am the first week of February- there wasn't many people at the parks, bu, they were still sold out.

I just am not ready to do Disney, since my surgery, but I know everybody is going to insist on it. There is just so much for me to prepare for and think about, I don't feel like dealing with it. We are 6 adults, by the way. My brother is getting married in LA in August and I would rather wait and go to Disneyland, then, instead of going to WDW now. I know I'll feel much better by August. I do know that walking the parks is not an option, for me, right now. Last Summer, before I had my surgery, we went to Universal. I did walk, with my cane and I did really well - we spent an entire day (8am-10pm) and both parks. But, I was able to get a pass there that worked like a fast pass. If the wait was more than 20 minutes, they gave us a time to come back and then we used the fast pass (whatever Universals name for it is) line. Then if there were steps or something they would take us around another way. It really helped not having to stand in lines. So, fast forward to the present and I am still recuperating from surgery on my leg, I know that I'll need an ecv or wheelchair. As much as I would love to go to WDW, it's really going to be a pain (literally and figuratively, lol) trying to make it happen.

When I was there in November I used scooterbug and had a 1 day rental. Dropped off at 8am and I returned it at 4pm

I was staying at the GF and got it delivered right to the hotel. I do not know if they deliver to the parks though.

@TLS4Mickey As others have indicated, it's kind of hit or miss as to whether or not there will be any WDW Parks units available at the Park you happen to be in. Since a WDW ECV daily rental fee (but not the unit) can be "hopped" from Park to Park, many people try to take advantage of that.

Could you use a Rollator, instead of an ECV? A Rollator is like a walker, but has a built in seat for when you need to rest (like standing in line). They typically have a storage basket under the seat as well. Rollators are lightweight, can fold down to fit in the car trunk, and can sometimes be found on sale for about the price of 2 days worth of WDW ECV rentals.

Another option may be a wheelchair - you could use it like a walker if you wanted, and stand behind it and push to give you something to hang on to, but if you needed to sit for a while, perhaps one of the other adults in your group could push you. Often, churches, Masonic Lodges, Eastern Star, and other local civic groups have a "lending closet" of wheelchairs and crutches, or you could simply post on Facebook and ask if anyone in your hometown has one you can borrow.

By bringing a walker, Rollator, or wheelchair with you, you will have it for other parts of your vacation where lots of walking or standing may occur.

If you are concerned that an ECV really is what you need (and you know better than anyone else!) then if I were in your shoes, I would gather up some of the phone numbers of rental vendors in the Orlando area, and get on the phone with them. Ask them specifically about your situation, and see what they can do to accommodate you. If someone says they can, then be sure to (A) Get it in writing and (B) Get the person's name you spoke with.
