We are staying offsite for our upcoming trip, but a friend who was just in Disney bought our 4 magic bands for us at Downtown Disney. I just went on-line to My Disney Experience and was unable to put the numbers in from the magic bands. It kept saying "invalide number" or something like that. I was definitely using the 12 digit numbers on the back of the bands.

What did I do wrong?

It's my understanding that tickets can only be linked to MB's at the actual time of purchase while the MB and RFID ticket are both physically present at the cash register. I think they might be unusable :(

I figure you'll be able to link them while in-person at WDW.

And, there's no real need to link up the MB's before your trip.
You can make your FP+ reservations without an attached MB.

If you just REALLY want to try to attach the MB's,
you might try calling the WDW IT dept. and ask if they can help.

I had called and tried to order my group's magic bands from WDW merchandising last week. I was told it was not a problem and the guy took down my info and credit card number, and even asked what colors I wanted. He told me they'd be at my door in around 10 days. ( I was inspired by all the creative people on these boards and was wanting to paint/customize them ahead of time ) The next day he called me back and said that unfortunately, they were not able to fulfill my order because the bands needed to be activated and linked at the time of purchase. I asked if they could be shipped as is and I could stop in with my receipt when I arrived and have them activated/linked. He asked his supervisor and was told that no, they need to be scanned and activated at the time of purchase or they will never be valid. He compared it to an iTunes card. Said there's no value to it unless activated and that they can't be brought in and done later. I really hope for your sake, that's not exactly the case. Hopefully you'll be able to use yours successfully. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Hope some pixie dust gets thrown your way. pixiedust:

My sister went into Downtown Disney the other day to buy me a MB for my ticket. She was told that it HAD to be bought and activated at the register, that the program just wasn't able to do it all online yet. The CM probably shouldn't have even sold you those. :[
