Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

So Looks like I'm most likely out for Wine & Dine (at least anyone that saw my instagram knows already)

I probably have a stress fracture - I got an X-Ray today so I'll know more tomorrow after my doctor reads it. I may have to get an MRI if she doesn't see anything.

Still planning on the trip. My husband is still running it.

I guess I need to see if deferring is an option. If it isn't - I'll probably walk the 10K and just do the afterparty.

I am SO sorry to read this. :(
I'm dealing with a stress fracture as well and not only is it miserable, but it's also depressing. Sending you some quick-healing vibes!

Thanks! It is miserable! How long have you've been dealing with yours?

I knew something wasn't right when the pain level didn't change since Friday and I didn't have an incident that would have caused it (if that makes sense) I put on my brace I use for my normal issues and it didn't help at all at work and after 3 hours - I knew I needed to call someone and so glad I did.

If you've ever followed my trip reports for my races or my training journal - I'm prone to ankle issues at least in my left foot! Never ever my right one. Thats why I have a good and bad ankle. The podiatrist was a little shocked when she was moving my feet around for range of movement testing and she saw exactly how loose my left ankle was (but she didn't force surgery down my throat at least not yet - the brace I use for long distance running is a good choice for that although it was a bad choice for the right ankle issue)

So I had a bit of a pity party and when I made my husband drive to dinner (I mean, I have a huge sexy boot on my right foot - that makes it super hard to drive!) we were talking about it (more so I was whining) it probably happened because I may overcompensate the bad ankle on the right ankle and eventually it gave way. Or maybe I just did something stupid at home or work and didn't realize it.

I'm just sad I've been told absolutely no exercising - at least not the stuff I love - running is off the table - yoga is off the table - biking. I told my husband I'm either going to spend a future on books or legos in the coming weeks.

I'm not used to knowing I'm going to have this much free time!

I'm on Week 4 with at least two weeks left before I can possibly begin anything remotely weight-bearing and it's miserable.

And it's funny that you mention all of that - because I'm here with a stress fracture in my left ankle and a Grade II sprain in my hip, so it's obvious that the ankle was having to compensate for the pain in my hip that had been bothering me for a lot longer than I wanted to admit.

Sorry to hear that. I've had to make some tough choices too lately with my IT Band issue. I am going to stick with Wine & Dine (and like you, walk if I have to) and either defer Avengers (or if no deferrals are offered - write it off). My physio thinks I can get through W&D, but backing up for two in a row will likely put me out for a very long time (which I want to avoid).

Hopefully you will start to mend fast - and if not, there are worse ways to spend your time than books and lego! :)

Oh no, that's sad @Dis_Yoda! And you've got Star Wars in Jan & April too so hopefully you'll heal up good for those at least. May the Force be with your healing!

I know they just started doing this with the Star Wars Dark Side weekend, but is anyone purchasing Memory Maker in terms of getting their race photos?

If I was just having a regular vacation I do not think I would get it for this trip, but since this is going to be my first runDisney race I'm thinking taking the plunge.

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts! Thanks!

I am thinking about renewing my AP early just to get the photos so I think it's a good idea.

I'm sorry. :( From what I understand rD is no longer doing deferrals, but I'd call anyway and plead your case: you never know, right?

Injuries are totally depressing. Thinking of you.

I wish they'd make an announcement or something - as far as I know, they didn't offer deferrals for the Disneyland Half races. That may be confirmation.

But I agree, doesn't hurt to call and ask. I can see where they could defend themselves (because they removed all deferral language from their website, so as far as we know the registration rules stand where there are no refunds). But they never made an official announcement that they were gone after years of having them, and didn't offer insurance or anything at registration. That's a lot of money to lose...I'd definitely try (i.e. nag and nag and nag and nag).

Holy moly. I was curious so I looked up MVMCP tickets for the day after the race. And then I about wet myself. $91 per ticket?? GEEZ. Last year I think I paid $68? (I did have the AP discount). I think I will just go to Trader Sam's and spend an equal amount of money, but have 3 cocktails to show for it! Lol

I was thinking about that too, although we're leaving monday morning... Trader Sams seems like it is the better deal :) One of these days I'll get to MVMCP!

Thank you for all the well wishes everyone <3

Until I have the MRI on Thursday (yay insurance approval waits!) & thus have a much more clear answer about the extent of my injury - I'm holding off on calling RunDisney. Right now, the podiatrist believes its a stress fracture but my X-Ray came back negative (which usually only will show positive if its super late stage or super fresh or chronic)

If I ended up not being able to defer, oh well. As my husband is running the races anyway and our trip to the Swan is already paid for, if I can't defer - I'm still going to pick up my bib/shirts/etc. I paid for all of that! I'll still go to the after party. Depending on how it feels - I may very well walk the 10K from the last corral (and if I get swept - I won't be angry about it - at least I get my shiny metal and the reason for failure isn't because I was badly trained) I wouldn't attempt to walk the half no matter how I feel. I'll cheer on my husband and his super fast self so that maybe I'll actually be able to get photos myself of him at the finish line with my good camera.

I may relook at the special events for Food & Wine on Thursday thru Saturday. I had originally ignored certain events as I didn't want to drink too much pre-run - that doesn't matter now! I can totally enjoy a wine dinner now when I don't have to worry about a half marathon! (Have to think about the positives)

If I have to miss a Challenge - I much rather it be Wine & Dine Weekend than Star Wars as I'm trying to maintain my legacy for both Light Side & Dark Side Challenges.

Sorry to hear of everyone's injuries. We're coming up on one year since mine, and I remember how it felt to be so close, and then have something happen. We hope for the best possible news for everyone.

DW came off IR on Sunday, and was able to meet her goal of moving for a 2 hour period of time. I got in a long run, goal 12 miles, was able to get to 13.1 Prior to starting the run, it was cool enough out, I could just see my breath. The temperatures sure changed in a hurry.

Thank you for all the well wishes everyone <3

I will keep my fingers crossed for you on Thursday! That's when I go back to the doctor, too, so hopefully we can have good news together!

So had this whole trip planned out months ago and now come to find out the hubs can't go

We were staying at AKL for the first time so now I'm in a deluxe alone :sad1: Already bought him a party ticket and everything. I'm running the challenge and not leaving until Monday so I'll enjoy the after party alone :sad2: Disappointing, but what can you do. It's a non-negotiable thing at work he didn't even know about. *sigh*

Got our Magical Express tags today, that's exciting at least. Then I called to get a 2nd set since we each bring 2 suitcases.
Me toooooo :yay:
