Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

I am not looking for anyone to tell me anything. Was just looking for Friendly advice.

I don't understand this - it seems like you were given plenty of friendly advice encouraging you not to lie about your PoT. No need to be rude to all the people above who have taken time to respond to your posts.

:confused3

So I decided to call rundisney and have input the PoT as per their advice. Thank you for the advice ladies and gentlemen. Its August 3rd now. Let the games begin.

And even though rD says they will make no changes at the expo, if you have proof (recent) of a faster time, and you're placed in the last corral. They will change it.

We met a fellow who had just run the Boston Marathon and was placed in the last corral. He had a very professional conversation with the rD cast member and he was placed in B. So it can happen .... just maybe not a frequently as in years ago past.

True - but it has to be proof from a race that occurred before the PoT deadline, not after. My friend tried at Tink with a half that was run one week after PoT deadline and she was declined.

I get that faster people are frustrated if they aren't corralled "properly." But for all the rest of us that follow the rules - which are very clearly stated on the website and during registration, with what I think is a generous window of races that they allow people to submit (~2 years or whatever) - it's frustrating to read about people lying or submitting things after the cut-off just because they're "fast." I'd love to get in a higher corral by making up some time, but I don't do it because it's not the right thing to do.

As the spouse of a speedy runner (although he calls himself slow, pshhh) - you are always going to have to push past some people no matter what the race. He's been in Corrals A, B, and C for the Races since 2015 (aka when he started having proof of times)

The worst for him has been when he's in Corral A as it seems the people in the cute costumes try to push forward for the starting line pictures (Stormtrooper Crew at DarkSide/Light Side) but he passes them in the first few minutes and never sees them again.

You can't let those things bother you at a Disney Race. Most people are there for the atmosphere and not times.

As there are so few people in those beginning corrals - it spreads out quickly enough. It isn't like having a 45 minute 10K runner in Corral L which could be truly dangerous for all of those around (which I have seen and heard the rude comments on both sides of those)

I completely agree with you. I haven't been able to run a half in a few years and so when I signed up for Lumiere's I entered my time from a few years ago knowing runDisney could either see it and use it or disregard it as the rules state. I don't expect them to place me higher just because I think I will be at the same pace. I fully expect to have to go around slower people regardless of what corral I'm placed, it's just a part of these races you have to deal with.

Just be happy y'all aren't open water swimmers. I spent years in that sport and we all start together usually which means we got really good at strategizing, dodging, and last minute moves around people. Personally I found it fun and a challenge, which is how I look at running in these crowds as well.

This!

Nobody is so much better than anyone else to lie about PoT to make their experience better. It always seems like Special Snowflake Syndrome crops up right around PoT deadline.

Plus we all get the same thing when we finish or not finish, the medal. The rest of the swag is the same. I don't understand the the problem, I've done enough fun runs that don't corral or self corral to know it will never matter, people will always be in the way. But keep the damn strollers in the back, ugh.

Yikes! Good thing you checked! I need to go in and screenshot mine! And I guess I'd better check the year! LOL!

Wow, you've been running for a long time! Ha!

Oh my, good thing you checked! I've checked mine a few times so hope it checks out A-Ok, mine is a RunDisney event (Disneyland half)so they shouldn't have issues with it cause if they did that would be ironically sad & funny.

haha, omg. That's quite an old race!

Hazards of owning a TARDIS, I guess? ;)

Has anyone stayed at an All Star resort for a race before? Is the food court open before 3 to grab coffee at least? We have stayed at dvc resorts before so I usually just make it in room. I have never stayed in a value before so I forgot they don't offer coffee makers in room. We aren't checking luggage so I can't really bring anything to make coffee either
the wife an I have , it was a hit or miss , one day they would have it ready but others they did not , we were prepared and brought starbuck via packets and used the hot water from the machine to make our coffees

Moving on from the POT drama...let's talk about training!!!! How was week 5 for you?

School is starting back and it is going to be harder for me to get out there in the mornings, but I also know the heat is a huge factor until October for evenings. Just have to push through and make it work.

Pretty happy with my training so far, time wise I am feeling pretty much on target even as we are adding miles on the weekend...crossing fingers my legs, ankles and feet will continue to play nice.

I ran a solid 11 miles yesterday and feel decently on track for November, except that around mile 8 I started having pain in one knee on the outside, especially on descents. Seems like it's probably my IT band. I will take it easy for a few days and see how it goes. My question is: what is your experience with KT tape for additional support during injuries? Do you use it for all long runs? Does KT tape truly seem to have real benefits? TIA!

I just signed up for the Hershey Half Marathon on 10/16. I couldn't resist the peanut butter cup medal! But it kind of conflicts with the training plan for Lumiere's Challenge. That weekend is supposed to be a four miler with magic mile and the weekend after is the last back to back long runs for the challenge. Trying to figure out if I just run 13 two weeks in a row then taper? Seems like the only thing really to do. Or run the 6 and then do a 10-11 miler for that last long run. I guess I'll figure it out and see how my body feels, but open to any suggestions.

This has been a bad training week for me as I'm sick so no long run this weekend. But hopefully once I feel better I'll get right back into it. I'm hoping I'll be able to get my maintenance run in on Tuesday like planned.

I used KT tape for the first time at Princess after experiencing knee pain on my long training runs. It really helped me. I ran three races that weekend, plus the time in the parks and I was only a little sore going up and down stairs after the half. So a huge impact for me! I recently started a part time job to help out financially and fund my runcations and my knees were very sore Friday night. I taped them before I went to bed and they felt better in the morning. They're still taped as I'd hoped to run this morning, but am super sick, but at least my knees feel better! I'm not sure I understand the science of it, but I know for me it has helped! I recommend giving it a try. I tape my knees before any run 6+ miles. (I found that out through trial and error.) Or any time I am experiencing knee pain.

I have used KT Tape for several years for ongoing knee issues and am a big fan. Way better and more comfortable than braces, straps, etc. I tape my right knee for any training runs longer than an hour and tape both knees for any race longer than an hour. I think it is helpful for providing additional support. The KT Tape website has good videos to help explain how to apply it properly. The key for me is to put it on at least an hour before I run so that the adhesive properly sets. It'll last through showers, etc. although I usually don't leave it on for more than my run. The big downside is that it is kind of pricey. I order it from Amazon and save a few bucks.

My training was right on point until 2 weeks ago. I had minor surgery on my leg, tried to run through it, and of course it started to not heal properly, so I had to scale back, then this week I caught a bad cold that progressed to Bronchitis. So I have managed about 1/5th of my usual distance in the last 2 weeks. I'm seasoned runner so I'm not worried about losing that much ground. It's more the frustration of being stuck on my couch :(

If you don't already use one, I also recommend using a foam roller. It makes a huge difference with my IT band issues.

I did a half mile outside today before I decided that it was just too hot and muggy. I did 6 more on the treadmill instead. Next weekend I'm doing the Rock Hall Half in Cleveland, so that's going to mess up the training plan a bit.

YAY for 11 miles...boo for knee issues. I have been so frustrated with KT tape lately. I have bought several rolls and none of them will stick. I even bought the sticking spray...GRRR... I when it does stick I find a huge difference with my ankles, shin splints and PF! Anything above a 10K and I used it...not sure what I am going wrong with the sticking part. It used to stick no matter what!

I wondered if that medal was going to suck you in Gretchen. I wished I lived closer and I would join you! My next race (Texas Wine Series Half) falls perfectly into the training plan, so I am not having to adjust. Go with your body...

Take it easy and let it heal! Easier said then done...LOL.

Love the RnR series, hate the hot and muggy thing...especially since we have few days that are muggy (lots of hot) it really kills me on those days.
