Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Hey Everyone!! I hope this isn't too dumb of a question..but- what is the return policy on games? DS6 just got his Christmas present from my MIL last night- a Wii:cool1: She didn't get any games to start. We had a blast yesterday with the sports games that come with. This afternoon she took the kids to Walmart and bought Lego Indiana Jones and Ninja Reflex for Wii and 2 Nintendo DS games for DD9- boy I wish she was my Mommy!!:rotfl2:

Anyway, the Indiana Jones game he likes- he's played it at friends houses before so I knew he would. But the Ninja game and one of the DS games is a real stinker.:sad2: Can you return or exchange games once they're opened? We're very new to this. Both kids just got DS for Christmas so I've never purchased games in my life before this month.

Any advice would be appreciated!!:thumbsup2

Generally once a game is opened you can only exchange it if defective and then for the same game. If unopened you should be able to exchange it for a different game.

We are new to having a game systems too (just got our first, a Wii for Chirstmas also) So the first thing we did was join Blockbuster rental. We did the 2 game out option for like $35 a month, but you can keep them as long as you want and rent as many as you want. Then when they find one they really like, we will buy it. (well make them do extra chores to earn the money to buy them lol)

You can do gamefly for much cheaper than that. It's an online, mailing thing like netflix/blockbuster but it's video games. DS13 just got a subscription for Christmas. And if you like the games, you can keep them and it's cheaper than buying new ones to keep a pre-played one.

Regarding returning games- I didn't want a gaming subscription simply because I don't play often enough.

I love the Gamestop used game policy- you find a used game, take it home, and play it for up to a week. If you hate it (or it's not what you expected), bring it back no questions asked and pick out a different one.

I've done it already with a game that I brought home that was impossible to complete the tutorial. :rotfl:

Besides, I refuse to pay full price for games, either I get them used (gamestop, amazon, half.com), off ebay, or just wait until they go on something of a sale if that's going to be my best bet.

That wont work for us... our kids are younger and the waiting would kill them. lol

I might look into gamestop though, but for now, since we are new to the whole game system thing the blockbuster deal is working out nicely for us. We joined 6 days ago and have already tried out 7 games lol

I cant find info on this anywhere.

We have Rock Band 2 for Wii. We also have a Sharp 52"LCD. The lyrics are blurry across the screen. I have read where the Wii is not HD so there is a problem playing it on HiDef tv. Anyone have any ideas to fix? Right now we have it on static and dont really like it.

TIA

I've spent countless hours over the past few weeks researching my issue, this is the last place I imagined I could go for some help. I'm glad it's here though, 2 of my favorite things all in one place.:)

My problem is this, I bought a Wireless Router (Netgear Wireless N - WNR 2000) to use with Wii and my i-pod Touch. I set the router up and was online with the Wii very easily. The problem comes when I log off-line, the Wii will no longer get back on-line. The Wii still recognizes the signal, but will not connect. Now, if I power down my modem and router, then turn them back on, I can get on-line once again with the Wii, until I log off, then the cycle repeats. I strongly feel this is a Wii issue and not a router issue as I am not having this problem with i-pod Touch. Things I have tried but have not made a difference: 1) Changed Channels in router to 1 and 11. 2) Changed security setting to WPA-[TKIP].

I hope someone is familiar with this issue and has some possible solutions. If not, I've still read a lot of useful information in this thread, thanks.

What do you mean by log off?? Do you mean turn off the wii? or are you actually telling it not to log into the router?

I leave my wireless router/modem pulgged in at all times. And have never had a problem with the wii connecting.

Have you tried changing the Wii 24connect settings in the options menu of the wii? perhaps the issue can be fixed there....can't be much more help then that right now sorry.

My DS7 saw SimCity Creator at the store last night and really wanted it. We wanted to wait and try and find it for less than $50. I have never seen this game before. Has anyone played it? And would it be appropriate for an almost 8 year old?

Has your 8 year old ever played a simcity game before?

There isn't anything really inappropriate about it..it's simply a city bulder/manager. Howevere it may be too complicated for an 8year old. Not to mention there isn't much game to it.

Ign/com rate it's a 5.9(mediocre) the gamers at the sight avergae it at an 8.0 (good) other press reviews avergae at about a 7..medicore-good. SimCity games are fun for about 10 minutes then they get old fast. And If you've played on you've played them all...my suggestion is not to spend the $50 on the wii version but instead by one of the superior PC(computer) versions for much cheaper.

While it's true the wii is not "HD" in that it only runs at 720p instead of 1080..howver this should NOT be an issue I have been playign my wii on my SONY SXRD FULL HD1080p 52" since day one and I can tell you It's just as crisp as my x360 if not more crisp aroudn the edges. That said I am also playing it with the Progressive scan Component cables (and NOT the Red/Yellow/White RCa cables that come with it.) IF your playing on a HD tv I highly suggest you pick them up(by ONLY Nintendos or NYKO's cables...trust NO other) you'll be amazed at the difference.

Also try taking the vocals off static it may help.

Regarding unwanted games/returning games:
My husband and I joined goozex . com It's a place to get the games you want. You offer up what you have and make a list of what you want. You acquire points for games you give out and then use the games to purchase games you want.

We got the Wii Fit yesterday and are loving it.:cool1: My husband is concerned that our sweet smelling feet might leave an odor on the board and he doesn't want a face full foot when he does the 'he man' strength training exercises. Is there a washable cover that we can get to protect his delicate nostrils?:laundy:

BTW, we got one only because I looked at the Best Buy ad in the Sunday paper and it was there, so remembering the advice I had gleaned from this thread, I quickly hopped in the car and got one of 12 that were allocated to our closest store.

I was a Rock Band "widow" this weekend.... :rolleyes1 my boyfriend spent the whole weekend going on a solo guitar tour! First on "easy", then on "medium".

I'm sure he would appreciate any tips or tricks you may have!! It gets pretty tough!!

Also, is there a super-difference between Rock Band and Rock Band 2? Would it be worth it to get just the game of Rock Band 2? More music and make your own character seem to be the only differences that I can see. :confused3

Yes, they make covers--mainly for non-slip stuff, but they can be washed. Just search wii fit cover at amazon.

My best advice is to do the tutorials--without them you'll never learn how to hammer on.

Yes, I believe it's worth it to get RB2. You could even get it with an extra guitar, so you can play guitar together and not be a widow. With RB its ALL about the songs, the more you have, the more you want to play.

We have, like, a kazillion. It's nuts.:thumbsup2

I believe its worth it to get RB2, as well. We did and it's more fun. Apart from the new songs, creating your own character is fun. Then there's the challenges, etc. Plus, the online capabilities are nice. We just got the game. Haven't seen a game/guitar pack, but that would make sense. We just got a different guitar.

Well I just gave Wii fit a whirl and it was fun. I broke into a sweat but then again I am really out of shape and it seems obese so breaking into a sweat isn't that hard lol I like that it's just at my speed. Not to hard, not to easy.

I did mostly the aerobic things, and surprisingly really enjoyed the hula hoop section lol

The step class (why it's onstage with an audience I will never know lol) was a nice warm up/cool down. I unlocked the higher level one but didnt try that today.

I suck at sking so no Wii Ski in our Future lol

Yoga is HARD omg I am so fat and so out of shape even the half moon took soooooooo much effort. At least I breath well lol

QUESTION.... I password protected my Wii, but was curious if my "high scores" will show up when others are playing and vice versa... or is it just your own personal high scores? I like the idea of competition :-)

And just a thought, but wouldnt it be great if they came out with a wii fit program that you could do with friends online like Mario Kart, with wii speak and all... With your little Mii's jogging together or doing the step class.

I love my Wii FIt! I'm glad you are enjoying it.

Even witha password protected account, you will still see others high scores in the rankings when you complete activities. DS#2 and I are in a real battle for most of the #1 spots!

Yes, what I mean by logging off is simply turning the Wii off when finished on-line. Router and modem is plugged in at all times. I will look at the Wii24 Connect settings and see if I am mising something. Thank you.

Okay, I'm sure this is a really stupid question, but how do you download music to Rock Band? I looked for options in the game, on the website and in the instruction booklet (which I haven't found helpful at all!).

Thanks! I'm sorry that you need to spoon-feed the blonde! :rolleyes1
