Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Thanks for all of the help with the dance pad!! :goodvibes I hadn't been able to find any wireless ones, either, so since those guys at the store told me they existed and were what needed to be used, I was really confused and worried about what to buy!

As for the Game Cube question, no, they are not interactive. You will need to get an "old style" Game Cube controller to connect to the Wii to play those games, too. So, basically, they play exactly like they would have on the Game Cube.

I lucked into a Wii on Black Friday, my most exciting BF ever! We have a gamecube and I am wondering how that works, playing the games from Gamecube on the Wii?
I picked up three Wii games at TRU, guitar hero 3 with the guitar, cooking mama, and monster truck jam or something like that. I have been reading through this lengthy thread and enjoying it, but havent' happened on the gamecube connection yet. Are the gamecube games interactive like the made for Wii ones?

You can play any Gamecube game on the wii using the old Gamecube controllers. You cannot use the wii-mote with them, so they play exactly like they would on the GC. None of the Gamecube games have the controller interactiveness, but there are a few games like Mario DDR and the Dunkey Konga games that are more interactive. I would skip them and focus on Wii stuff.

So anyway, to play the old gc games, you insert the disk into the Wii(just like you would a wii one) and then plug the GC controllers into the special ports for them. There is a detailed picture of this in the Wii Manual.

I didn't realise you answered too. Thanks!

no problems. should have gone there in the first place [our local TRU is thumbs down]....

so I traded Mario Sonic Olympics for Mater Nation and The Disney one [my dad also bought it] for Petz Dogz.....they did not have My Sims or other Petz or Puppy Luv...they had Lego but it is for 10+ [my kids are 9,7,5 girls then boy]. We already have Play, HSM2, Galaxy, Enchanted Journey, Madden. [yipee to my family for jumping on the game band wagon]. It's their big xmas gift. I didn't see the first Cars wii and I know it got 6/10 ish reviews. Hoping they improved it. The lady said I could just exchange again as long as not opened.

there are NO reviews ANYWHERE on these two games.....

anyone here get them and play or anyone know where they review NEW releases....I've checked ign [have to pay to read boards, no thanks], gamespot, gamestop, wiiforum, cnet, etc.....

Well trish unfortunately there are no mater or petz:dog reviews at this point. I can also tell you that you will see very few of them show up. many game sites such as gamestop, cnet, gamespot will not and do not spend time reviewing games that are geared "only" (as the would put it) at young children.

The first cars game was fun(played it at epcot), however from this thread many many pages back it was said that many young kids, 7 and under, we're finding it way to hard. Hopefully mater has fixed that matter.

as for Petz Dogs....I have never been a fan of the petz games...I can tell you that it is simply a pet simulator...if you have have seen or played nintendogs for the ds you will have the right idea. It's fun for a few minutes, but it gets old quick. That siad i know a lot of litle kids like nintendogs so they may love petz also. You'll have to you your own judgement on this one.

I hate to say it, but many employees that work at gamestop are surpriseingly unknowledgeable about games! I can run circles around many of them when it comes to games. My experience with GS employess(even being friends witha a couple) is that they have thier "favorite" system and can tell you alot abotu it, but very little about the others. I've always prided myself in being an all around videogame knowledge bank!

as for the wireless wii dance matt...nope nadda has not happened yet. It's a possibility in the future as there have been wireless ddr mats for the ps2 and original x-box made. That said all the review for them i have ever seen are that they are junk. so it may be a while before a worthwile wireless wii matt is made.

Hi Harley  , hiya Your Majesty ;) . Thanks for helping me out. Scored a wii for ds for Christmas, and now I kinda sorta know what else we need. ;)

Carnival Games is another multigame game like Wii Sports or Wii Play. It has a bunch of different Carnival games you can play. It is also a multiplayer game or party game.

People around here really seem to like it, but a lot of the press gave it bad reviews. You can read more at http://wii.ign.com

Oh! I just realised your son didn't ask for this, someone else recommended it? I wouldn't recommend it in my top 6...well, depending how old he is.

How old is he? How much game experience does he have? I can give you recommendations from that.

I really appreciate you checking around so thoroughly, but as DH said most of the big review press do not bother to review games that only appeal to young children (which is stupid). I think they do this, because almost every review I've ever seen them do for these games are usually really really bad.

There will probably be a lot of actual player (or mom and dad) reviews AFTER Christmas, but everyone is saving games til then.

You could try asking on the community board if anyone has played those 2 games.

Oh and DH and I subscribe to the ign message boards and there's nothing there to tell you about either, cuz all of us subscribers consider ourselves "serious" gamers and would never admit to playing a kids game. lol Just kidding! ...well, sorta! :teeth:

And once again let me remind everyone the beauty of RENTING games! Especially when you have little ones. They tend to move from game to game very quickly. A lot of brick and morter Blockbusters don't have very good game selections, but I think we need to tell them that we want more Wii games to rent!

Went to TRU yesterday and traded the Mario Olympics game for Metroid -- hopefully that will be more age appropriate for DS. I actually traded two games that I had purchased on sale and they didn't give me any grief over it . I was a little worried after reading some of the posts concerning customer service @ TRU.

Sounds good to me. :thumbsup2

I just think TRU needs to be clear before people buy what the return policy for this sale is going to be. There are problems every single time they do it. I can't believe they haven't done something about it by now.

I think they shouldn't allow returns at all for the sale unless the game doesn't work so you only can return it for the same thing. That makes so much more sense business wise. I don't want to see them stop doing the sale. JMO

Anybody played My Word Coach? My DD13 is awful at spelling so I thought this might be a fun way to improve her spelling and still have fun. But my hubby said games should be just games and she won't want to play something that looks like homework in her free time. Any reviews out there? I looked on wii.ing but it wasn't listed. Thanks

IGN has not reviewed it, but a couple of readers have, plus it links you to just about everyone else that has reviewed it.

http://wii.ign.com/objects/907/907890.html

The readers gave it a 5 out of 10.

Here's a full review from worthplaying.com;

Let me know if that doesn't work for you. Since I subscribe to IGN, I sometimes can see stuff that you guys can't.

Does anyone know anything about the Nintindo DS game Enchanted? My daughter ask for this for Christmas. She is 10. I checked the ING but could not find anything on it.

Can anyone help me? Our Wii is broken, partly. It won't play Wii games. It plays gamecube games just fine. But when you're on the Wii menu and it asks you to choose Wii or Gamecube, if you choose Wii it goes right back to the main menu.

My younger son has been using it mostly to play gamecube games. We haven't even tried to play wii games for a couple of months. Then DH just tried to put one in last week and it wouldn't work. We've tried unplugging it and resetting it, does anyone have any ideas?

Call nintendo. They have fantastic costumer service.

I can't think of anything to help, but Nintendo will. The number should be right on the Wii. If not, I'm sure it's on the box.
