Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Thanks Joiseygirl and Harleyquinn for the info about High School Musical including the microphone! Now I have to try to find it next month! Our Toys-r-us has buy 2 games get one free on right now so I went in with my list (gleened from the tips here of course) and they were all sold out of most Wii games and all that I hoped for. They young man working said to check back each day as they get trucks in each morning. What a pain, but to save $49.00-its worth it!

No problem. I thought that TRU doing the sale again was kinda stupid. A LOT of stores were already sold out of anything worth gettting. :confused3 Good Luck!

Yeah, our store had a terrible selection too. I ended up buying the Carnival game (for the kids), Brunswick Bowling (for DH) and POTC (for DH). I got the Carnival game for free, woo hoo! I still want to get Pokemon for DS and Hannah Montana and HSM for DD. I wonder if TRU will do the sale again before Christmas?

I was pretty shocked that they did it again, but I would fall over if they do it before Christmas. I HIGHLY doubt it. They've depleated their supply to make room for all the new games coming out.

TRU actually has this sale every single year and this is the first time I ever remember them doing it twice. I just think they didn't sell enough games the first time.

(In case you didn't know DH worked for TRU for 10 years and I did for 4, so we have a history there. :teeth:)

This sale is also online. The sale ends Saturday so if you're planning to get anything, I'd check online right away.

I bought:
Metroid
Zelda DS
HighSchoolMusical DS (gift for niece)

Probably not the best use of my "free" game but I couldnt' come up with anything else I needed for DS that was available. Everything he wants isn't out yet.

Wow! It *does* remind me of WDW - especially around 45 seconds when the flute comes in! Cool!

Just wanted to find out some info regarding Smash Bros. Brawl. ( at least that is what I think it is called ) I had one reserved at Game Stop and it was supposed to be released in Nov. Well, I received a automated call from Game Stop today saying that the release date has been postponed till Jan. :sad2: Anyone else hear the same thing? I also have Mario and Sonic and the Galaxy one reserved so I guess I will just move my $5 to one of those.

Well, it was originally supposed to be released in December, and now it got pushed back to February 10th. :sad2:

Morning - How good are the following 2 Games:

DonkeyKong Barrell Blast
Brunswick Bowling

I have these in my ToysRUs shopping cart. My DD(8) loves donkeykong.

Ok I bit the bullet and got my kids one.
I took advantage of the sale at TRU and got WiiPlay, Big Brain and Ratatouille.

My kids are 12,9, and 8. ( boy girl girl)

I think it will be great and I am really excited about it. I havent heard to many reviews on the Ratatoille game and wonder if I got the wrong game there. Big Brain and Wiiplay sound great though.

I am really looking forward to Wii Fit personally.

So what else do you think we need to look into?

DonkeyKong was originally meant for use with the Bongos from the old GCN. Now you use the wii-mote instead, but honestly, without the bongos I would probably give it a pass. IGN panned it: http://wii.ign.com/articles/827/827642p1.html

Bowling is supposed to be very good. I just can't spend that much on a bowling game!

I think you have everything you need to get started. But I would buy Mario Galaxy for sure with those ages. I would also consider taking Ratatoille back and getting something else like Rayman, Super paper mario or Zelda. The ages of your children are perfect for REAL games that are actually worth their cost and I wouldn't consider Ratatoille a 'real' game. I'm sure they'll have a little fun with it, but they probably will largely ignore it in favor of better games.

We already have a PS3- My DH bought it more for him than the children... my DS12 is getting a Wii for xmas. We have the Blockbuster game pass so he already has been playing Madden 08 on the PS3. He loves this game and plays it constantly! It is definitely time to buy it so we can take it back to BB and allow others the chance to rent it! :lmao:
My question: Do you get to interact any differently on this game with the Wii or should I just buy the PS3 version since the graphics are definitely better?

We went to toysrus today and like many said they were sold out of lots of games. The guy working there was very helpful and told us to purchase games now that were the same price as the games we wanted that were not in stock and that we had 45 days to return the unopened games and switch them for the games we wanted when they were back in stock on them again. I would double check this at your store to makke sure but it sounds like a good idea.

I think you should rent the Wii version and THEN decide. I know that means waiting until after Christmas, but getting the right game is important. The Wii version is VERY different. You use the wii-mote to juke and stiff arm and to kick the ball and all sorts of things that you just hit buttons for on the PS3. Some people LOVE the Wii version and feel it is finally an evolution of a tired franchise and some hate it. I wouldn't take a chance. Get him a different game for christmas or better yet a gift card so he can pick which one he wants after playing both.

Definitely, definitely clear this with your store first and definitely do not open anything. If you open it, it can only be returned for the exact same game. I can't believe the cashiers are telling people to do this, though I totally believe it will work. I think practices like that are why return policies at stores are getting so out of hand. You have to give your first born to return things today.

Anyway, sorry to get on my soapbox. if the company lets you get away with it, then it's their problem. Most video games are too expensive anyway. We deserve a break! :teeth:

I haven't read through all 60 pages but so far I haven't found this. What is a good site to rent games through. Our local Blockbuster only has 6 games and I would like to try some of these new ones before buying. I already have some that we bought that don't get much if any play time so I would love a recommendation. Thanks!

I thought about getting the bowling, but a lot of the reviews I read were not so stellar. The general feeling was that the bowling games that comes as part of Wii sports is better.

I have no actually used it myself, but it the one that has been around the longest and that I know the most about. Maybe someone has actually used one of these sites?

I honestly think that Wii Sports bowling is perfectly great for most families. Only hardcore bowlers should even consider getting another bowling game.

There seem to be many brands (none of which I've ever hear of) of Wii remote chargers - and when I go online & read the reviews of them, most are rated poorly. Can anyone recommend a good quality Wii remote (single or double) charger?

Wii Sports is a seperate game right? I am confused. what game comes with the console/system?
