I am registered for the full Disney marathon. It's my 50th birthday gift to myself! I've run one other marathon (Cowtown in 2008) in 4 hours 20 minutes. I can't wait. Will reserve room soon. It's been a long time since I've posted on the Disboards. It's good to be back.

HELLO FELLOW RUNNERS!!! :wave2:

I just finished my first half marathon in May. After that amazing runner's high I decided that I wanted to do a full marathon. I am a former CM and living in New England but expressed to my DH that I wanted my first marathon to be the WDW Marathon....For mother's day this year, a week after my half marathon completion he gave me a confirmed registration for the 2013 Disney Full and said we were going WITHOUT our kids for the trip. I'm SO excited....so excited that I gave him a registration for father's day! We will be completing our first marathons together and can not think of a better place! (We honeymooned there too!) :cool1:

Few things;

Anyone wanna virtually train together? :thumbsup2: Email me! (DH is actually no fun to train with he makes everything a competition) lol

Also, I know there are no discount hotels on property for runners but does anyone know if we get a discount ticket or anything? That would be a great swag prize for finishing! (a discount at least!!!!)

Thanks for the help!

I love it also. You can find me under the same screen name.

First week of "official" training not going too well after three weeks of great unofficial training. I had been doing Pilates twice a week, speed work one a week, hills once a week, and pushed my long runs (which are only 3-4 miles right now) up to race pace. I had already seen a difference and knocked 3 minutes of my 5k time! Then I got sick on the 4th, missed my Wednesday run, got my Friday run in, and then went to Daytona for the NASCAR race yesterday.

If you've never been to Daytona, it's huge. According to my Nano pedometer, I walked 5.3 miles, a lot of which is hills. 2 miles of that was at my race walking pace as we tried to weave out of the crowd to get out! So now I am pushing back my long run for this week to Monday.

I've taken to a schedule of Monday off, Tuesday Pilates, Wednesday speed, Thursday off or swimming, Friday hills, Saturday Pilates, Sunday long run or MM. I just need to get back on that schedule!

Is anybody here currently training for/competing in triathlons? I am doing a sprint tri in a couple of weeks, and my first half Ironman in September, so that is my focus right now. I am figuring that I'll be pretty well conditioned after the half Ironman, was going to take a week or so off, then pick up with the marathon training in October. Just wondering if anyone else was trying to combine tri training and marathon training. :confused3

What is the daily mile?

It's a website where you can track running and other work outs. It'll tell you your pace and you can write things like how you felt. It totals it all up too for interesting stats like how many donuts you've burned, etc.

I use Nike+ on my Iphone. Love it!!! They just revamped the site and the app so it is much more user friendly and it has a lot of great features. Once they bring the challenges back it'll be that much better.

Did my 3 mile run today after a 8 hour shift at work and managed to knock 2 minutes off my minutes per mile time so i'm doing a 14 minute mile instead of a 16 minute one :) Not the fastest in the world but it makes me feel so much better about my bad run on Thursday, can't wait till my next run.

I am! I'm registered for my first sprint tri in mid August. I decided to register after some urging from a friend when my running was just feeling blah. I've enjoyed mixing it up, but I'm not so sure it's really had any posititve effect on my running. We'll see after August when I build my mileage back up for the half this fall. My summer workouts have been 2 swimming, 2 bike, 3 run, 1 weights/toning (if time allows). I'm working up to 3 swimming, 3 bike in the next few weeks along with running and toningl

Just finished my first "high mileage" week, with 42 miles. I was exhausted last night, but feel pretty good today, which is a rest day!

Anyone using Nike+ or Runkeeper?

I use both. I've used Nike + on my iphone and I've used the nike + sportband and foot pod. I've switched from that to the Nike + GPS watch. I also use runkeeper on my iphone. Both APPS are really nice here's what I've found.

Nike + Pros
Really nice we interface.
They've done a pretty good job of gamifying running using levels and games like tag
The run mapping interface is pretty good
I really like the Nike+ GPS watch

Nike + cons
Its not easy to program intervals through the app (May not even be possible)
Data is not easily exportable

Runkeeper Pros
Easy to setup intervals in the app.
Good support for events through the app. (You can join a race in runkeeper and see other runkeeper people that are running that race.)
It's personal but I've seen more friends on runkeeper.
Data is portable.

I wind up using both and I think its interesting that even though there is some varience between the Nike + GPS watch and runkeeper on my iphone they still come out pretty close at the end of each run.

Also I run a lot of trails and I think the runkeeper app seems to go back and make adjustments post run. I find my calorie burn will usually jump substantially after I finish running. I think it might be adjusting calories based on elevation change post run.

For anyone looking to book Southwest, they are now open until Feb 13. We booked our tickets today:cool1:

I'm a budget runner--I use the endomondo app on my iphone and I love it. It tells me "3 miles in 36 minutes 12 seconds, lap time 10 minutes 46 seconds, expected finish time..." so I don't even have to look at it while I run and they all get uploaded to the site, which also has some social features. It was $3.99 and after using it in a 1/2 marathon right on the nose.

9.5 mile run today--it's getting easier. I didn't feel too tired til mile 7 AND my legs feel fine. I was so excited to run outside again! (and not feel like I'm going to die!) There's something to be said for running on popular trails/routes with other runners. If nothing else gets me out the door, there are a lot of good looking guys running around DC. They're not Disney characters or the castle, but I'll definitely speed up and run towards one... :)

I noticed that there is about a .50 mile difference (faster) when I use it on the treadmill compared to what the treadmill says. Maybe it's because I have a shorter stride and take more steps?
