I would also like to add I now want to do the goofy so I can run the half with SAMI BRADY. Billed by runDisney as Alison Sweeney from the Biggest Loser but forever and always Sami from Days of Our Lives, my official family soap.

Wait, Sami is running the 1/2 in January??? OK gotta sign up ASAP if she is!!

I've never heard of honey stinger products! Can you find the waffles in the frozen food aisle? (Sorry if that's a silly question!)

pics of the wafers and the gummies.

I got mine by the register at EMS.

I didn't see a specific thread about this, so I figured a lot of runners in this thread might chime in.

I am looking at getting a gps watch to track my runs. I was wondering what you all recommended or had experience with. I like both the Nike+ GPS sportswatch and the Garmin 110.

Training is going well - though last week I only ran 6 miles because I was on vacation and lazy!

But last night I ran my usual 5 mile route around home and finally made it up the big hill I have always had to walk partly up (1 mile-long fairly steep hill). So my setback week hasn't redrailed me too much. I have a 5k coming up on Saturday and then a 15k the next Sunday.

I have the Garmin Forerunner 305...love it!

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Forerunner-Receiver-Heart-Monitor/dp/B000CSWCQA

The 205 is very similar, except it does not come with the heart rate strap and may not be Mac compatible (when I bought the 305 they were more similar in price - difference of about $10 - and the 305 description explicitly said it worked on a Mac...of course, a couple of years later I almost never plug the thing into the computer :rolleyes2):

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Forerunner-Receiver-Sports-Watch/dp/B000CSQJ8C/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_0

The 205 and 305 are no longer made and they are GIGANTIC in size. I think the 110 is supposed to be the updated model, except that it does not show your current pace. I think that's a deal-breaker for a lot of people (possibly myself included if/when I need to replace my 305).

ETA: I looked in my Amazon history and I ordered my 305 in May 2010. I did have to send it back to Garmin once because the pixelation on the screen became messed up...but that was before I'd had it for a year and they sent me a replacement, no problem, thanks to the 1-year warranty. It's been fine since then. :thumbsup2 The few days I didn't have the watch, while waiting for the new one, were really a wake-up as to how much I really like running with the 305.

So if you already signed up for the full is it to late to add the half to run Goofy?

Nope! :thumbsup2

No, it will cost you an additional $25 for a transfer fee. I think Ariel484 may have misspoke; answering yes you still have time.... Uo to the point where Goofy sells out of December 1

Oops! Yes, I did...that's what happens when you skim too quickly. :guilty: :rolleyes2 I'll go back and edit. Thanks for catching that!

I use a Garmin Forerunner 610.

With regard to Nike vs Garmin I have found that the GPS acquisition tends to be better on the Garmin products than the Nike. This is a highly subjective observation mainly from having to wait on a running buddy wait for his Nike.... Other than this, look for fit.

With regard to the 110 and the 210, I am not sure that the screens are programable. That may not be an issue, but I tend to want to see data in a different order than the 'standard' layout. The 205/305 are the old standby units. While the sat acquisition is a little slow compared with the 400 and 600 models it has bent he strong workhorse for many years. It is a little large and clunky, but once you have worn it for a few times, you get past that.

Thanks all - I did not realize that the 110 did not offer pace, which is something I want. I am looking at the 405 now. I will have to see if it is available at any stores to try on, if not, I will order online and hope for the best (I have really small wrists). I can always send it back.

From reading the reviews, I think the issue people have with the 110 is that it offers average pace, not current pace. From what I understand it doesn't give you the ability to see how fast you are running right at that very moment, and this is what is turning some people off. You might get a better sense of this from some of the reviews. :confused3

Ah, I see. I will read some of them. But I guess for the same price (maybe $10 difference), I would rather get something that offers me better features. I guess I need to sit down and compare the features on the both of them.

I have kind of a dumb question, but I apparently haven't come up with the proper combination of search terms to Google an answer. Does anyone know if you can drive yourself to the Half Marathon start, or must you rely on Disney transportation? Thanks!

You can drive to the start if you get there early enough. 2 years ago we drove from SSR and were there by 4:15 with no problems. I have heard traffic gets very bad any later than that, with even the Disney buses caught in the gridlock.

You can drive to the start. I left at 4:30 for the Princess and traffic was a backed up onto Word Drive. I was coming up from 536 and the traffic extended on the off ramp and onto the road, but it didn't last for long. They do a great job getting everyone in!

Thanks for the information about honey stingers! I want to try them! I honestly don't know what an EMS or REI is...is that a running store? We don't have many running stores around me!

REI is an outdoorsy megastore. Camping, hiking, biking, climbing, well, you get the idea. I bought some of my running clothes there also. If you go to REI.com and search for "energy" you'll find a lot of the items that people have been posting about.

I am soooo behind...

But here's my quick 2 cents on the GPS: I :love::love: my Garmin 305. I have had it for 2 years and yes its big, but I got over that quickly. I love having all the info available to me when I want it. Plus being able to upload to the computer for my coach in Cali to see is a big plus. Don't know what I will do if it dies:sad1:

Honey stingers, chomps etc. That is such a trial and error thing. I used Sport Beans for a long time, as I was reluctant to try Gu (texture thing). But I really like the Chocolate Outrage Gu and can handle that pretty well. I did buy a box of 24 recently, figuring I would go through them quickly with training for my fall marathon. I will need to buy more sooner than I thought.

I went to a lecture on Monday night given by Nancy Clark, a dietitian who deals with athletes. She has a monthly column in our running club magazine (and lots of others). Her thing was that it didn't matter if it was Gu, or beans or real food, just whatever worked for you. (She did mention Starburst and Twizzlers quite a bit though). She also said you can't lose weight while training for a marathon.

How do you like the 610??

I'd agree with the part in bold...I started training for the WDW Full marathon in September 2011 and I lost 4 pounds during 4 months of training. After the marathon my mileage went down and I started Weight Watchers and lost 17 more pounds over the next 4 months. I think it's different for different people, but I didn't start to significantly lose weight until I changed my diet. (P.S. Still trying to lose those last 5-10 pounds...)

Did your overall body change at all or did it pretty much stay the same? ie: was the non-weight loss do to adding muscle while burning fat or did your overall mass stay pretty much the same during marathon training? I know I'm working on diet / exercise for this year then next spring switch over to marathon training (or whatever time of year it suggests depending on which program I go with)

I'm trying to lose a bit of weight (about 10 lbs) while training, but it's slow coming off. However, the shape of my body has changed dramatically. I wish I would have taken some measurements before I really started increasing my training, but the fit of my clothes and shape of my body (in particular my waist, hips and legs) has been significant. So, even though the scale doesn't show it, I'm definitely "smaller" than I used to be in the areas I care about.

That's awesome! Muscle weighs more then fat so it stands to reason that the scale may not change much, but your body is :) Congrats, and as you get close to your goal weight, as you've seen first hand, focus more on your body then just some random number on a scale :) :thumbsup2

Yes you can drive ... BUT I would not LEAVE your resort at 0430. Honestly, folks will get left in traffic if you wait till the very end. I would suggest a 0330 leave time from your resort at the latest. You then have some cushion just in case. Remember the Jan Half is considerably larger than the other ones run at WDW.
