Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

I called Disney this morning because I hadnt got my Mickey Mail yet. They said that they are having computer issues and that Online check in is not working. They were able to check me in over the phone.

I am getting so nervous. This is my first half. I dont feel as thou I trained near enough. My husband said I will finish if he has to carry me! I am going to attempt a run tommorow, but it is really cold and snowy here. I could use the tredmill, but really hate it. I can walk outside and enjoy it, but 30 minutes on the treadmill seems awful. This is going to be a long week! I am counting the days till we leave.:wizard:

You will get there. Do not worry if the weather keeps you inside. It is much better to come down a little undertrained and uninjured from a weather related fall than getting a last run in and get injured as a result.

If you really feel like you need to get a run in tomorrow, know that an hour on the treadmill will toughen you mentally, much more than you think. Take that as a positive.

Regardless, you have a lot more training in than you really realize. Once your wave starts on Saturday, all the nerves will go away and the magic will begin.

After being worried whether I'd be over my bronchitis in time for the HM next saturday, I went out and ran one today!

I actually took it easy and skipped my mid-week 7 miler and shuffled around other runs this week because of a crazy week at work - getting back after the holidays and getting ready to go away for 10 days of vacation.

So today, I had 10 miles scheduled, but I also had a Sandy Hook memorial virtual HM that I had signed up for. I had planned to run this last Saturday, but the bronchitis kept me from doing that.

So I did the 13.1 this morning. Not a bad time overall considering I wasn't "racing" it. I actually was pretty fast when I was running. I stopped a couple of times for water/fuel as I went past my car - so that added about 7 - 8 minutes to my total time. I also didn't fuel well... I had some old packs of sport beans I was trying to use up... but they were so dried out and stale that they turned out to be nearly inedible, so I only got about 150 calories of fuel during the run. Not good.

I bonked at about 10.5 miles - just out of gas. I run/walked at a fairly good clip for the next mile+, but almost all of the last 1.5 miles was walking. I had cramping and no juice left in my legs.

Overall, my time still was as fast as my first HM back in September - 2:40... only 12 minutes slower than my November half. If I had fueled properly, I believe I would have beaten my November time and I wasn't feeling like I was pushing the pace.

While walking that last mile, I definitely was wondering if I had just stupidly messed up my race next Saturday, but after getting some fuel in me and a good rest this afternoon, everything feels good.

We leave to WDW first thing monday morning... should arrive on-site about noon and then we'll have the whole week to enjoy the World.

Just a couple of short "leg stretchers" some time between tuesday and friday, and then the big event.

The WDW half was the first one I signed up for after I ran my first 5K last spring... now, it will be my 4th HM distance run... hard to believe.

OKW, here we come!

Now if it would just be a bit cooler for the race, I'll be VERY happy... though for the rest of the week, I'm liking the forecast... should be warm enough to go to Typhoon Lagoon one day!

Ted

The Chuckster 5k will be held; rain or shine about 0500 at OKW. Distance and pace are up to the runner as is drink. Good humor will be supplied by all. Starting location depends on building number... though I could fire it up at the Hospitality House. Given the crowd in the villa, we may run a 12-13 minute pace.

they do not run from 0500 to 0700 for both races.

If I'm anticipating a finish between 1:50-2 hrs in corral a do you think someone would be able to meet me? I normally wouldn't care, but the way the timing works I think i can incorporate the half into the honeymoon next year...so in that case, it would be amazing if the boy could meet mr at finish

Hard to say...

If he caught the first bus running as they resume, then it is possible. There are just a lot of variables. In the past, they have resumed busing a little earlier than 0700 but that does not mean they will at the resort he is at during the race. Or that they do not hit a traffic snafu, or have an issue disassembling the start structure... delaying the resumption.

My DW has generally not come to the half at all due to timing issues. The couple times she has come, it was just in time to see the finish.... but that was when the race started in the 0600 range.

He could come put to the staging area to see you off

Yeah..traffic is what I'm worried about. I would feel horrible making him
come to the start at that hour. The reason why I would do the half (as opposed to the full or goofy) is that the recovery time would be pretty minimial. I mean I have a year to worry about it, but it does seem to kinda stink that if you run the half on the faster side it's tough for spectators (and ironically...I would only want him to see me finish if I was running a fast race, because that would be special to me...if in making sense)

Monorail! Save and spend a night in a monorail resort that Friday night. They run continuously

If we were on our Honeymoon and DW was finishing her half in 1:50/2:00, I would want to go to the start with her and wait for her return. :lovestruc

That 2 hour wait would be a minuscule amount of time in comparison to the 39+ years we have been married.

BTW, DW and I are getting out in 7 minutes for our last Sunday walk before the 5K, Half and Full coming up in 5 days. :thumbsup2

You sound like me last year! I kept thinking 'please don't let the white vans take me to the finish line!'. I had crazy scenerios in my head...during the summer I had prepped for it...even walked 13.1 miles on my boring treadmill watching a dvd of real housewives! I can't do that all the time because the treadmill is boring as heck..but couldn't go outside either. All I wanted to do was finish that race...
So I did finish it. Looking back - as you will when all is said and done - I realized the only thing that would have held me back was my own head. I think your mind can be the greatest obstacle there is...assuming you are a healthy walker (or run whichever)...your knees are okay (I wear a brace), sneakers are real good to your feet (I think one of the most important factors)...you're okay.
When you go to the expo the adrenaline will start to kik' in.

You will do fine. Your goal is to finish and finish injury free.

Woke up at 6:03 am and looked at my click. An anxious grin curled the corners of my mouth as I realized exactly one week from today I would be hitting the start button on my Timex, thus starting my first marathon.

It's here folks!

Pretty exciting!!!! :thumbsup2

Our outing this AM was at 67F with 90% humidity, add them and we have 157 on the 130 scale. Hope it's not like that later this week.

If my DH would stop watching Homeland on demand, we could get to the gym for our last 9 miler.

We are heading out in about an hour. Should be 70 degrees with 85% humidity. Similar to the conditions predicted for next week except today is cloudy/foggy.

Im so glad the marathon is almost here already so I can stop stressing about it and just do it!

Me too! I'm actually ready for it to be over at this point.

Well, this is new. Anyone else have some pretty bad back pain? And what to do about it 6 days before the races? I thought I just slept funny Friday night, but it lasted all day Saturday. And still here today. In the lower back. It hurts most when sitting, and then moving positions. Kinda OK while standing. Sleeping was not good. Ibuprofen didn't do much yesterday. I may try heat later today.

Sometimes I'll have pain in the lower back from time to time, but it's usually gone after a few hours. It's never lasted more than an entire day. I have no clue what I did to cause it. Friday was 8 miles, A-OK. Went to sleep as normal. Dog jumps on the bed at 5:30am, as normal, and that's when I felt it. He's a big dog, but it wasn't from him. ;)

I'll be doing an elliptical workout today instead of running. No way I can run with this pain. Geeez, just one more thing to add to my list....
Advice? :confused3 Thanks.

I am coming down with a cold. I guess better now than Wednesday. Praying it clears up soon. I am downing green tea, vitamin c, and taking zicam religiously.

I commiserate with the PP about fundraising. We set a goal of $500 for Team Gleason for ALS patients -- on our own we wanted to fundraise and run for them -- but I am not very good at fundraising, I have discovered. Of donations I know about (don't know how many donations were made direct before we recently got a FirstGiving page, the link in my sig is direct to the charity), we have raised $101.20. I know that good can still be done with that, though!

Less than a week! I am working on our post race shirts on my embroidery machine. Which I better turn my focus back to before it eats my BFF's shirt! It ate my practice shirt and broke the needle. It's a bit Fatal Attraction---it will not be ignored!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one feeling inept at fundraising. It's a good attitude to look at what you DID raise and know that even amounts under your goal can do some good. Now I will try to adopt that instead of the feeling of "failure" attitude.

Thanks for the giggle over the Fatal Attraction embroidery machine! They tend to alternate between feeling like watching paint dry and being obnoxiously high maintenance. :rotfl: Good luck!

Glad I gave you a giggle. Got the words done on all three shirts last night; today is adding Donald to them. :)

And, yes, don't feel like a failure. I'm on my phone so I can't see your sig--which charity are you supporting?

Thinking stress from thinking of the upcoming weekend; though lower back would not be the typical spot. I would not hit the elliptical if you are reading this before heading out. Better to rest the muscle and allow it time to heal.

I'm supporting Give Kids the World. :)

Are you using a Brother Embroidery machine?
