Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Not cool!!! Do you have any idea how hard it is to restart one's OWN heart???

OK. You got me good. I know the water stops are pretty good but I figured that since I've trained with it and I'm comfortable with it I'd give it a go. Besides, I don't think I'm coordinated enough to do the tapered dixie cup technique!!! Thanks for the info!

In previous years i have trained with and ran the race with a camelback. If you are comfortable with it, I say go for it. For me it was nice to know i had water and could drink it easily. Plus it gave me space to carry a few things. This year i will run with a fuel belt. I just wanted a change and thought not having something on my back would be better.

:)

I understand the comfort of doing the same thing in the race.

It's getting so close.
Does anyone want to ride the bus over to the marathon with me from POR? I'll be wearing a yellow and red minnie mouse sparkle skirt and you can't miss me because I'll be having a mini panic attack/nervous breakdown. Feel free to say hello.

I will also be having a mini panic attack....wearing a "Mouse about Town" Sparkle tech skirt but traveling from the Poly. We need to just breathe!! Good Luck!

Question on photos. I know brightroom offers a package (well, that is what I gathered from what you guys talk about on here!). Is this something I purchase at the expo? Online after the race? Thanks!

I got mine after online! I felt better seeing the pictures before buying, just in case there weren't any good ones!

This is so funny--I was behind you and Christine at the finish line photos at the Wine and Dine! I was going to say hello and how much I enjoy your blog but I felt like I was going to throw up so I just decided it was best to keep my mouth closed... This time if I see you I'll say hi!

I'm in a debate right now between walking over and riding myself. All depends on if I bag check, which I'm really thinking about as one of my friends will be running, but will be about 1-2 hours behind me on the finish and I can bring my phone that way. In either case, I'm always game for some pre run company (Everyone I'm going with family wise is gonna be asleep).

I've been training with a Camelbak backpack and I'd like to use it during the race. Does anyone know of any reason why they wouldn't allow it? I e-mailed RunDisney to ask them but they never responded.

I've seen plenty of people with Camelbaks, Nathan's, and other water carriers like that. You'll be fine.

My thoughts exactly! :) Thanks, coach, for the confirmation. I like having my water on my terms...and I found out at ToT (my first race) just how uncoordinated I am with water stops. :) Finding this pack was a win for me on a lot of levels!

I have done the Princess Half, but this is my first Full. Am trying to help my family plan their spectator locations. When exiting AK, it is through the main entrance where spectators can see you so they don't have to go all the way into the park?...or will they need to go into the park to see me? My time will be about 6 hours (if I make it!!) so AK will be open by the time I get there. After that, I wonder if there will be a bus to WWOS from AK, or if they will have to transfer at a resort to WWOS?

I'm at POR and I'm committing to walking. The long bus ride, taking a chance on being delayed, and then having to walk with the herd to the corrals is not my idea of great race prep. If you walk you can stay in your room until (PG-13) you make your last poopie, then can warm up on the way to the corral. Coach seems to think it is pretty reliable so I'm going for it.

I have searched the RunDisney site and cant find this info...If anyone knows, it would be greatly appreciated.

DURING THE FULL MARATHON....
Friends are taking the Monorail from Epcot to MK to watch me there.
They then are thinking about heading to WWOS to catch me.
Is there any Disney transportation to WWOS on Sunday?
If not, they will just do Animal Kingdom instead.

thanks for any help you can give.

We are almost there people! Put on the sandals and crew socks and call me a tourist! It's time for Disney!

Here is a video I made after my first Ironman in 2010.

Very cool! I am hoping to do Panama City's HALF in May. Based off of how close to crying in a corner I feel from that... it will either make me want to complete a full or stick to olympic distances haha. PS nice bike. I have the P1 (2010.) I bought it when I was just starting, I wanted to see if I would continue. I tell my husband that after baby number two... I want a P2 as a gift for carrying a peanut around for 9 months! We'll see.

Advice from anyone on a couple of things...
1) We are staying at the Marriott Royal Palms in Orlando. My husband's parents have a timeshare there. So even though I know it makes things easier to stay on Disney's property. I couldn't argue against free lodging. What time is sufficient to leave?? 3AM? I am about 200 runners off of corral A's cutoff. So, I would like to be there in enough time to hit up the porto-potty and get to the frontish area of corral B.
2) For those of you with kids, what do you do for the race. My husband will be driving me to Epcot at the wee hours in the morning with my poor 18 month old. Should they just go back to the hotel? I don't know how difficult it would be for them to cheer me on during the race.

Here is a link to a more detailed map. If your crew is headed to AK, they will want to hang near the bus stops. The course leaves the park and heads backstage near McD's. We wind around back stage then hit the parking lot east of the main gate near the east end of the lot. We follow a sidewalk up to the tram release area then loop south past the bus stops, by cast member parking and out onto Osceola.

I would suggest NOT heading into the park to view runners as the paths are narrow and the width left for spectators is only one person wide in many spots.

To go to the WWoS, they would need to head back to Epcot then grab the 'Marathon" bus to WWoS. There is a bus from park to park, but with traffic issues that come out of AK I would suggest grabbing the first non monorail resort/non All Star resort bus then transferring to an Epcot bus at that resort. Then transferring to the WWoS bus at Epcot. The reason for the worry about the trip back out of AK is that the race and traffic share the road from AK to Buena Vista (All Stars Exit). At Buena Vista, all traffic must exit. This can create a good quarter mile back up or longer. You will take about 90 minutes from AK to WWoS, just to give your crew a timeframe for their travels

On p 61 of the program, they indicate there is busing from Epcot to WWoS during the race. Seating will be open in Champions Stadium. Hope folks do not laugh too hard as I lumber around the warning track

I'd be okay with walking if you and Reep want company--I don't think I'd know how to get there otherwise. My bag check is I pack a bag and give it to my sister to bring to the finish, plus my skirt will have enough pockets for phone, wallet and camera. I'm like a pack mule, so no bag check isn't a problem for me.
One week from today I leave!! This is insane. This is really truly insane.

Today is my last 5 miler! Actually, only a few more runs to go.

Today--5

Saturday--10

Monday--4

Wed or Thurs--2

What's left on your training calendar?

I am at POR too if you want a bus buddy!

Are you ladies at French Quarter or Riverside? Can you walk from Riverside?

I am at Riverside. I was thinking of meeting up with Liz to walk over.

"Coach has cautioned about security being more strict this year with people walking over to the corrals, and advised to look to see if they are turning people away before you cross "Overpass Road" other wise you may have to turn back and find a bus"

Now I am kind of thinking of getting on the bus to be on the safe side. :)
I am in corral F so no need to rush for a 5:30 am start. But I would get on the bus by 3:45am

I still think it will not be an issue walking... However, I work a lot with attorneys, so I am constantly looking for little disclaimers and small phrases that may have deeper meaning. I think this is Disney’s way of absolving themselves of liability, but it may also be the first shot across the bow. It’s all about the risk of trying to make the trip over later than the buses run. I think I stated earlier the risk was less than 10%... it is maybe 15% now.

The issue is that the intersection of Bonnet and Vacation Way is also a kiss and drop location for many locals. So if no one reads the program, then there will be a crowd of unhappy runners. The more there are, the less likely a complete turn back will occur.

I have two half runners that I want to experience the staging area so we will be heading to the staging area on Saturday. I will make a special effort to look at the crossing Saturday and see if there are folks crossing. I will report here is there is an issue.

In the mean time, folks from both resorts can meet up on vacation way since the short cuts I have noted meet at an informal intersection. There is a Lynx bus stop at this intersection so there is a little room off road for a meet up.

I am undecided on whether I am walking on Sunday.

Does anyone have any good tips for dealing with heat and humidity for those of us who come from colder climes? I am doing the half and starting in F corral so the sun will be up by the time I get to the MK. I wear a visor, carry my own water, wear sunscreen, pour the water over the head. Any other suggestions? Does anyone use cooling towels or something else? Any advice would be appreciated. :flower3:
