What's everyone's thoughts on the Race Retreat and Pasta in the Parks?
Pasta in the Park sounds tempting but we are only available to attend Friday evening with the half on Saturday--I'm wondering if that's asking for trouble with being on my feet and out and about.
Any other recommendations for dinners Friday evening?
I can say that if the weather turns south (freezing or wet) you could sell a spot in the tent for a nice profit. Otherwise, in my book it's all about pampering. If you have room in your budget and want a carpeted place to stretch out pre-race, have a few beverages or want a character op, then this is you place. It also comes with port potties that have fewer folks per lou and it's own bag claim. Finally, the tent is next to the post race bus stop so it's a shorter walk after picking up your bag. Oh, it is also kind of air conditioned. Though I have a video from a friend in 2010 (year of the tundra) where steam was coming out off of runners pre-race.
If you cannot or fear the walking associated with the Pasta in the park, any dining facility has a pasta option. The economy resorts will have 3-4 selections, the other less economical resorts will offer a pasta special from their fast food window and all resort restaurants (table service) as well as most park table service restaurants will have some form of pasta. We gravitate towards the Grand Floridian Cafe. THis is mainly because the chef was able to prepare a special meal for me 4-5 years ago that was entirely different from the special. Any facility with a chef on staff will be able to offer modifications to the special if asked.
We eat around 3-4 the day prior to the races... I guess I should add that any facility with an Italian name is probably booked by now.
Hope this helps
