I'm going to try out making a trip report this time. Not even sure what I worth putting in it as I go but what the heck...

The run up to this trip has been stressful due to the weather we have had. Some of you may remember the pics below I had posted showing how buried my RV was. I do all my own maintenance on the RV and am admittedly anal about it. I was nervous that I couldn't get everything done or even back the RV out of our yard if it didn't melt enough. I'm happy to report that even though it's still pretty crappy up here, there has been enough melting that I was able to get everything done except de-winterize because most days are still below freezing right now. Lying on the ground on a 20* windy day to change oil, flush brake lines and replace the generator carburetor etc. was less than ideal but well worth it!

Trip details:
Fort Wilderness stay: April 12 through April 24.
Parks: 4 day park hopper with the water park & more option so we'll have 8 days of stuff to do and a few down days to enjoy the Fort or explore. We *might* venture out and hit Sea World one day but not sure yet.

We check into the Fort on Sunday, April 12th. As of right now that's only around 20 or so days! Everyone in the house is getting wicked excited. We are driving our class C down from MA and even though I can/have driven it in 2 days, we are going to take our time and camp twice at different places for the drive down by leaving late on the 9th. I work the graveyard shift so I can function equally well at night and prefer driving then due to less traffic. Here's our travel schedule as planned:

Travel Schedule:

APR 9: Get the rig packed and do final checks in the morning, sleep all afternoon. Depart home around 2200. The kids (boys 8&9) and dog will sleep all night leaving DW and I to enjoy the peace & quiet.

APR 10: There are no Golden Corrals up by us and we love eating there so I mapped one out on the first leg. If my timing is right, we should roll into it around 0800 for breakfast. After breakfast we will continue on and hopefully arrive early to our first stop at the KOA in Rocky Mount, NC. That will give us plenty of time to relax and get a good night sleep for the next leg.

APR 11: Depart Rocky Mount around 0700 and stop at another Golden Corral or maybe a Waffle House around an hour into this leg. After breakfast, continue to march to our next stop, the Jacksonville KOA (which is actually in GA).

APR 12: I'm sure we will all be amped up today but we will try to sleep in a bit to 0730 and hit the road by 0800. Stop at a Walmart near Jacksonville to stock up for the Fort and start the final leg. We'll take 95>4>417 to bypass Orlando traffic. I ordered a Sunpass and hope it arrives on time to make the tolls on 417 easier.

We hope to arrive at the Fort early in the afternoon, check in and get set up. Then we can relax. Maybe take a walk and hit the pool with the boys as they are dying for it after the long winter we've had. Our newest tradition is to eat at Ohana the first night at the Fort so we made an ADR for 2000 on this night.

We stayed at the Rocky Mount KOA on our trip home, nice a quiet. Pretty much everyone there was passing thru going one direction or the other. Was ten hours door to door, and that included a 30 min lunch, and 30 minutes to drop off our nephew, plus all the gas stops between there and Scranton PA. Sounds like a nice trip. Will be following along.:)

Too funny, we try to plan to hit Sonny's BBQ on our trips South. It's all about the food. :)

Oh boy, another Pre-TR/TR! I'm IN.

Tiggerdad, what is that white stuff in the picture in the OP?

Another "wicked" reference from someone in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I guess that means KristinU is not the only one who uses that word...:hyper2:

And Maligator, don't apologize for your attention to detail when it comes to RV maintenance. I'm sure people in the used/resale market someday would rather buy a unit that has been meticulously cared for over one that wasn't.

And as such it would fetch slight premium price. :dogdance:

Maligator, any amount of time you can devote to a TR is greatly appreciated by those of us stuck at home. We promise we will show the love. <hint - folks love pix, especially Fort pix>.

Keep us updated!

Awe joining in! I have one started for our trip to FW but its over a year away, so its going to be a long one=)

No worries on RV maintenance. I've already been up to mine twice since most of the snow melted. Needed to get some time on the generator and check for any leaks from the snow and cold- all good.

Glad you had enough melt to dig out. Normally I would think 2 more weeks would be good, but the way you keep getting snow, who knows.

And I'll be following along with Ed and the rest of us waiting for our next Fort fix. The trip plan sounds great. The drive down leaves plenty of time to get in early, see the sights and relax.

I still can't believe that there is a vehicle under that pile of stuff in that second pic. :sad2:

Looking forward to a TR if you are able. If not, just update as you can and post some pics when you get home.

Thanks for all the well wishes! I think we have enough free time built in that I can update with pictures somewhat regularly. My nightly winding down routine involves surfing the Web so it'll be a perfect time. At least that's the plan...

Everyone is right. Don't fret being anal about maintenance. There is enough to worry about on the road, with stupid drivers, deer and weather. I know things can happen, but doing proper maintenance helps to put vehicle concrens on the back burner. And by the way, DANG that's a lotta snow. Hope all goes well. We'll right be right along for the ride. :drive:

AHH Magicbands, you are close now. Won't be too long and you will be on the road.:drive:pixiedust:

We are also leaving on the 9th (Evening as well) and arriving on the 12th!!
I am behind I better get it together and start my first pre-trip/trip report...
Glad I don't have to deal with all that snow when I am servicing the RV. #Texasweather

We are leaving the morning of the 10th and arrive on the morning of the 12th. We will leave the Fort on the 23rd to attend the national rally of a Christian Campers Assn. in Citra, Fla.
We are hoping for the low numbered sites on loop 700, as we are bring our dogs and the old railroad tracks make a great place to walk.
What is all that white stuff? I feel bad that we are able to camp 12 months out of the year.
Tiggerdad, does your squirrels prefer raw or roasted peanuts?
Glo ,DW will start a new TR.
Hope to met y'all. Be safe.

Wow, looking like there will be a lot of DISers arriving on the 12th. We are taking over the Fort! :D

Grump, good luck on your visit. My bet (completely uninformed) is that Tiggerdad goes with whole cashews and not the cheap peanut stuff. Pure Coca Cola with the red label and not the Wal-Mart private label "Kola". And TD has a stack of bills to flash in front of the squirrels but the 100's are on top and bottom but there are a bunch of 1's in the middle. That's my bet anyway.

Good hire for the Ags with Chavis. Always respected him whether at 10RC or LS-Who. He will definitely make your D better.

Have fun with Glo!

We are a week ahead of you. And we also are driving our Class C but from NJ. We pulled it from storage this past weekend. Oil changed, battery replaced, and tires balanced. Now she is ready to go. We did some light loading with basic camp stuff and removed junk we wont need to lighten the load. All other stuff will be loaded next week. We will arrive at the Fort on Friday 4/3, probably late in the evening. I also work nights sometimes and prefer to drive while my kids and husband sleep but this trip I will be driving this RV for the first time so we are planning on a 1600 departure Thursday and a drive also to Rocky Mountain KOA to sleep and plug in to charge everything up. Friday we just plan to truck through leaving around 8am and hopefully arriving at fort shortly after dinner 6-7pm. Question, we are thinking of the shooting east after Delaware Memorial Bridg/95S and taking 301 around Baltimore and DC to avoid the tunnels. Have you done this? The other option is to go west to 81,77 and then meet up with 95 but I didn't want the added time and hills going that route. Any thoughts are helpful. Thanks. Have a Magical and WARM trip!!!!

Tiggerdad, your squirrels will have to settle for peanuts.
We are the poor ole Aggies, not the elite Tide.
We will probably need to come up with $400,000.00 for Coach Chavis.
Glo said she will not grace the Fort with Sam' Choice, DrPepper is another story.
