I'm going to try out making a trip report this time. Not even sure what I worth putting in it as I go but what the heck...
The run up to this trip has been stressful due to the weather we have had. Some of you may remember the pics below I had posted showing how buried my RV was. I do all my own maintenance on the RV and am admittedly anal about it. I was nervous that I couldn't get everything done or even back the RV out of our yard if it didn't melt enough. I'm happy to report that even though it's still pretty crappy up here, there has been enough melting that I was able to get everything done except de-winterize because most days are still below freezing right now. Lying on the ground on a 20* windy day to change oil, flush brake lines and replace the generator carburetor etc. was less than ideal but well worth it!
Trip details:
Fort Wilderness stay: April 12 through April 24.
Parks: 4 day park hopper with the water park & more option so we'll have 8 days of stuff to do and a few down days to enjoy the Fort or explore. We *might* venture out and hit Sea World one day but not sure yet.
We check into the Fort on Sunday, April 12th. As of right now that's only around 20 or so days! Everyone in the house is getting wicked excited. We are driving our class C down from MA and even though I can/have driven it in 2 days, we are going to take our time and camp twice at different places for the drive down by leaving late on the 9th. I work the graveyard shift so I can function equally well at night and prefer driving then due to less traffic. Here's our travel schedule as planned:
Travel Schedule:
APR 9: Get the rig packed and do final checks in the morning, sleep all afternoon. Depart home around 2200. The kids (boys 8&9) and dog will sleep all night leaving DW and I to enjoy the peace & quiet.
APR 10: There are no Golden Corrals up by us and we love eating there so I mapped one out on the first leg. If my timing is right, we should roll into it around 0800 for breakfast. After breakfast we will continue on and hopefully arrive early to our first stop at the KOA in Rocky Mount, NC. That will give us plenty of time to relax and get a good night sleep for the next leg.
APR 11: Depart Rocky Mount around 0700 and stop at another Golden Corral or maybe a Waffle House around an hour into this leg. After breakfast, continue to march to our next stop, the Jacksonville KOA (which is actually in GA).
APR 12: I'm sure we will all be amped up today but we will try to sleep in a bit to 0730 and hit the road by 0800. Stop at a Walmart near Jacksonville to stock up for the Fort and start the final leg. We'll take 95>4>417 to bypass Orlando traffic. I ordered a Sunpass and hope it arrives on time to make the tolls on 417 easier.
We hope to arrive at the Fort early in the afternoon, check in and get set up. Then we can relax. Maybe take a walk and hit the pool with the boys as they are dying for it after the long winter we've had. Our newest tradition is to eat at Ohana the first night at the Fort so we made an ADR for 2000 on this night.
